there are nothing but sweet lolipops. even shoenberg is a big suckable lemon lolly. You are left with nothing beyond lollipops. everything beyond lollipops comes back to the lollipop. Even adorno likes lollipops except he whines when all he is left with is the stick.
You are saying it! this concerto is not a sweet lollipop. Maisky and the conductor missed Schumann`s intention. Bernstein and Rostropovich made it to the very core of Robert Schumann.
I agree with you guys fagarasan and Bimarei. But don´t you dare to critizice Maisky´s playing a lot on Youtube or you´ll get some talibans on your back, haha I commented something bad about Maisky´s playing Saint-Sa:ens´The Swan and people hit me like I had insulted her mother. Just out of plain ignorance, of course. Jeeeeezz.......
well, a few wrong notes but really original interpretation...it is hard to say something new in this piece...maybe it is mostly played like it is a feeling of "internal burning", and this is a bit more "healthy" :)) hahah
Perhaps there are really 2 schools of thought for classical music. Those who enjoy tradition and standards (doing the same thing again and again) and those who seek to give new voice to these classic works. I am definitely in favor for new voices.
Hahahaha!! I totally agree!! Thank you, Alpauber, finally someone with some musical taste who doesn´t buy cheao effects! I assume you´re a professional musician too...
it doesn't matter what he's wearing....but why eating notes in fast passages?and the interpretation isn't nice,i also feel that the cello is suffering with him!...this isn't SCHUMANN! it's MAISKY anyways so....
I AWARD THIS 2 1/2 DRESDENS...as GOD KNOWS,this is tired and very tiring. The longer I listened the more I was convinced that they had eaten too much lobster for dinner and it was performed on a new moon.
It feels like empty beautiful notes...a counterfeit romanticism...if you will...YAWN
No they didn't, this is just the kind of music you'd hear at a lobster dinner as you say...which in fact means they did good so you kind of owned yourself :)
he does it because he sweats so musch, and must change twice or more in a concert. so he likes to were different, and modern, clothing to try and put a face on classical music other than people in penguin suits
you are so good with critizicing maestro Maisky, but i wonder if you have a contract with the Deutsche Grammophon or can play a solo recital in a sold out carnegie hall. Think about it.
I do believe that Maisky is an artist, a phenomenal one at that. But here the colors he used are not right. Some of them are but most would be better used in Dvorak....
Oh gosh, Mischa makes me all teary eyed. Wow.

He is raping both Schumann and the cello... rather listen to Rostropovich playing this concerto, he gets the soul of it, and Schumann's suffering.

its too spastic for schumann. it sounds very disconnected and stacatto/accented. it should be very long and flowing, in my opinion.
cellolover94 3 years ago 2
it was written toward the end of schumann's life, before he was taken to an insane asylum. the piece certainly reflects a little insanity :)
either way, i really like it.

No, no, yellow really does not suit him ;-) But you can be lucky with this.... usually I think he shows more of his chest...
And his playing is always fascinating... always a special and unconventional.
