The leather jacket Bob Dylan wore during his 1965 performance at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island will be on loan to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History for its upcoming exhibition, “American Stories.” Opening April 5, the exhibition will showcase historical and cultural touchstones of American history through more than 100 objects from the museum’s vast holdings, supplemented with a few loans.
Dylan’s jacket will join Dorothy’s ruby slippers, the rarely displayed walking stick used by Benjamin Franklin, Lincoln’s gold pocket watch, Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves and a fragment of Plymouth rock.
He is not a folk singer and never was, if you listen to him. He certainly imitated folk singers and mastered their idiom. He is not a country singer, his rock n roll was just a phase, and his voice is as protean as any artist's has ever been. So what is he? Certainly one of our greatest poets. And I would say the greatest performance artist of our generation, and possibly of all time.
I always think about when I divorced my wife when I hear this. Dylans music has a way of grabbing the soul of the listener. The man has a musical Genious that cannot be matched.
Hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my covers on my channel and give some feedback. It sucks to have to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check it out...
Bob Dylan fans are generally gentle and appreciative, for some reason. Few obnoxious comments. They seem to just want to exchange and appreciate the music. I feel the same way. A place like this is a refuge.
@crushsatan ohh avoid the christmas in the heart vids then, even Dylan fans turn into trolls on there. STOP dont go searching it will only spoil it for you!!

@ensonado It is a significant performance because it was the last song he sang at Newport 1965.
