@proprog5000 oh man you got me there...NOT. I'm actually on my laptop, using UBUNTU! A Linux based OS. And Guess what, it's for personal use! So is My home Desktop, which is Running Fedora 12, another linux based OS! And you don't always have to install it by code. Ubuntu for example, has a database of thousands of programs, it's called The Software center! Get a Ubuntu live cd, I promise you won't be disappointed mate!
You can actually run all three of them at the same time using the latest version of parallels. I ran windows vista & 7 at the same time. The only problem I found was that I was dump enough to install x64 because snow leopard has enabled installing x64. So running one is a little bit laggy not noticeable.
are you insane!!!!!!!!! The only reason I use windows using bootcamp is for the games! But mac is the best & linux is open source so no software company is gonna waste its money for nothing.
Mac is safe & error free. The only problem with mac is language support!!! Other than that its awsome.
When was the last time you modded your overall scheme? When is the last time you needed to convert a format such as .ts into .avi? When was the last time you needed to to make your fan stop going effing crazy?
>Mac is safe and error free.
No programmer is going to make a virus for such a low market share of computers, it's common sense but as more n00bs get a Mac, thinking that it's totally safe, guess what? 404...
Oh and I guess you haven't gotten that Grey Screen that makes you restart. Sure it's not like Windows BSOD, but it still makes you lose unsaved data. Oh and are you forgetting that Mac OS is based off Unix? You know, a similar structure like Linux?
>Linux is open source so no software company is going to waste its money for nothing.
You mean like Intel? Oh sure, intel is not a big deal, just one of the leading CPU manufacturers
Look INTEL WORKS FOR ALL 3 operating systems OK I know it Intel works best with windows. Look mac has many errors but lesser than windows. I had insane mac errors the biggest is mac deleted a 200 GB partition full of windows games to use it as a back up!!! since when a partition is used as a back up!!! But The problems I faced in windows are harsher The ram was burned multiple times! blue screen of death multiple times. both mac & windows are awsome but MAC has lesser problems.
@proprog5000 You're nuts. You know what company supports Open Source software? RedHat. Which the U.S Department o Defense uses, and is RedHat's biggest buyer. Google also uses Linux distros. Also, the server running Youtube, is a Linux server.. Dang I guess you're right, no one would ever invest in Open Source software.
@SuperAllenLee I'm talking about personal use u nutcracker! XD
super did you even try linux or used it! I bet you didn't because every-time you want to install an application you need to install it by code there is no double click & run.
THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER!!! BUT I LOVE MY MOM AND DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES! If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hours
Well, i deff. agree that would have made more sense. But I think your talking about the GIMP photo editer? They have that for Mac OS X also.
Im not a big Linux person, i don't have anything against it i just don't use it much. When i downloaded linux 7.04 it was either that or 6. something. I haven't exactly been up to date on upgrading to the new stuff.
GIMP works on pretty much every OS you can think of, and it was done for free UNIX first.
Personally, I think Ubuntu, on the whole, is crap. They do a lot of good stuff, but their distribution features too much automation, the configuration layout is too complex (compared to, for example, Arch) and their software (including, in 6.06, GCC) is often patched to the point of being broken. I'm not using it until they get their shit straight..
There's not a single distribution that's "good" for a newbie. I'd suggest running with whatever flavour of Ubuntu you like and trying that out to get a feel for the system, then try installing Debian proper, and when you're comfortable with the CLI, go for Arch Linux or Gentoo.
Both Arch and Gentoo are 'hard' for new users, but once you know what you're doing and what you want, they're the best distros currently available, imho. Personally, I use Arch.
my first guess was that you were using vmware on top of linux with the 3d cube effect of compiz, but then I saw the parallells-comment. didn't know you could do that :)
How do you have the flurry screensaver as your desktop? Is that something virtuedesktops gives you access to? Is that an ability available to leopard?
hey you did not answer my question i have parallels 2.02 for windows so i have a question does parallels 2.02 for windows has the same capabilities as parallels 3.0 for mac i dont think so but i ask you i have it but did not test it yet im alitle bit attach to vmware workstation so i wait for your answer
I assume that parallels 2.02 for windows has the same capabilities and parallels 2.02 for mac, and when i upgraded from parallels 2.02 to parallels 3 on my mac there were not a lot of major changes except for that it allowed support for direct x 8 (some games). So to answer your question its basically the same, parallels 3 just has some added funcionality.
ok that means i can do the same fast os switch on xp good but the best setting to me is run mac os x on pc the hack version witch runs fast and then on parallels run the others or buy a mac
I have a Windows-based PC. But I'd probably be using Linux more for most things. I don't wanna have to reboot to use Windows. I know I can virtualize an OS, but I wonder I can do exactly as you have here.
I made the quality as best i could and it still sucks, o well, i dont blame you thi is the crappy youtube now 1 question i have both latest versions of parallels for pc and mac but i dont have a mac so does parallels for pc can do the same as mac version of parallels, thanks
Oh, I wasn't asking HOW to dual boot. I was asking if you knew of something like Parallels on the Linux platform. Is it or is it not just like VMWare?
Is there a way to do this without having to resort to buying a Mac? I am not excessively fond of the Mac OS and I think they are horrendously overpriced. Could I not just dual boot a PC with a distro of Linux and XP and do the same thing, eliminating the middle man? Is there something like this for Linux??
you can buy a windows based pc and put linux on it. I dont know how becuz i dont know much about windows. But im positive you can do it. Google around, if i find anything i will message you.
it will work great. Mine is the same specs but a bigger hard drive. If you have 2 gigs of ram it will do perfect. Even if u have 1 gig of ram it will work fine.
Actually it doesnt, parallels supports up to direct x 8 meaning you cant do hgih detail 3d stuff, so when i try to launch beryl through this the screen just goes blank. If i installed it nativly it would prolly work though.
Oh wait, your on a mac aren't you, with mac as the base.
I'd love to do this, but have Linux as the base for the berly/compiz 'wow' effect of the windows and cube...and having each cube a new desktop...nice still tho
well today vmware just came out of beta and i think it cost 50 bucks or so, i do not know if you can still download the beta of vmware. You really cant go round with either it seems vmware took less time to set up but there basically the same thing.

I mean if you said windows is better I would believe you since it has better hardware. I mean who would use ALIEN-WARE for linux!!!!!
I am addicted to both windows & mac. MAC is for work & chatting & browsing windows is for assassins creed 2 & bioshock 2 & many other games.
tell me what do you seriously find entertaining in linux I playd nexius & it sucks.

7.04 is shit. And although i love XP it looked like the worst os of them all. Apparently all it can do is go on firefox and search for a youtube vid.
Yauchomi2 3 years ago
What would you have done on Windows?
What do you prefer over 7.04?
tennismanclay07 3 years ago
I would have shown windows-only software e.g. GIMP, ePSXe etc.
Although 7.04 isn't that bad, i may have been a little harsh calling it "shit" but i do prefer 7.10 or later.
