  • wow and I was told to take Splenda since I have diabeties. Guess I'll go back to sugar, or look into stevia.

  • @Missalomaa Try Ideal. That's what I use. It is made of Xylitol, which is a plant extract, like Stevia. It also has just a touch of sucralose in it. To me it tastes just like sugar! Not all stores carry it, but if you live in the south, Food Lion and BiLo carry it. Check it out at their website. Google "Ideal Sweetener" to find it.

  • Their are only TWO (2) "NATURAL" Human Emotions

  • Stevia!

  • I only use dates and raw stevia as my sweetners. Raw vegan ftw.

  • STEVIA . hurry up and recognize.

  • @NWforager Xylitol is the best of them all! Stevia, by itself, has way too much bad aftertaste for me! Try "Ideal" it has Xylitol in it. They do have a website where you can print out a coupon worth 1 dollar off, and you can print it over and over because it is a .pdf file! Just download the .pdf file to your computer. Buy the 50 count pack, and with the coupon you should be able to find it for $1 to $1.50.

  • @joel10000a . I have grown stevia in my house . When I can do that with xylitol ,I might consider it. I have tried xylitol ,tastes good but get some digestive issues from it. I personally promote natural stevia. No,its not sugar, just sweet.

  • @NWforager So you grow stevia as a potted plant? Can you tell me how you use it? How do you get the stevia extract from the leaves? I would also be interested in learning how to grow stevia, and processing the leaves into the stevia extract powder, like I am now using. I found a great liquid formula, and here it is. 10% (by weight), stevia powder in a solution of 60% glycerin and 40% water (the liquids by volume).

  • @NWforager I make up 10 grams of stevia powder in a solution of 100 ml of glycerin and water. Glycerin has a natural sweetness also, and helps sweeten the overall solution. I do use a magnetic stirrer I purchased on eBay, to stir the solution, because it is very difficult to get the stevia to go into solution, but it will go with a lot of stirring.

  • @NWforager I dissolve the stevia in two portions (5 grams each) into the WATER first. Each 5 grams takes 30 minutes or so to go into solution. Then I add the glycerin after all the stevia is dissolved in the water. If you add the glycerin along with the water, at first, the stevia really does take forever go to into solution!

  • @NWforager I use this with a liquid dropper bottle I found at a health food store, to sweeten coffee and tea. I use a combination of both Ideal, and the stevia solution, and it works great with no aftertaste!

It's really quite simple to make if you have a magnetic stirrer, and after you make it a couple of times to get the hang of it!

  • @joel10000a I've been thinking of trying the stevia liquids. I wonder how juicing fresh leaves would be ! Curious about the magnetic stirrer .. what is its purpose?

I found a little stevia plant at the nursery in the fall,3 bucks. Took cuttings from it and used an aerogarden to grow the clones all winter. I had to make sure to dry them fast after harvesting or the leaves got mold. Threw the dry leaves in a coffee grinder ,turned into green powder . Awesome in green smoothies =)

  • @NWforager Just check on eBay for magnetic stirrers. You should be able to find one at a good price, if you watch and wait. They have a motor inside, with a magnet attached to the shaft, and when you place a container on the top of it, with another loose magnet (coated with teflon), in the container filled with liquid, you get automatic stirring from the magnet spinning in the bottom of the container.

  • @NWforager It's a common item in a chemical lab. I have two of them now, one heavy duty, and the other for light duty stirring. I would be willing to sell the light duty one, if you are interested. BTW, I am a retired Chemical Engineer.

  • @NWforager I'm happy to see someone else who uses NATURAL Stevia, meaning the whole leaf powder :)

  • @joel10000a If your stevia has a bad aftertaste and is dissolving into the water chances are that you are using a White Stevia Powder which already has a 'sugar substitute' filler. I have found that white processed Stevia powders are the only ones with the bitter aftertaste. I would suggest you switch to Green Stevia Powder as it is much better for you

  • @SuedeHillsOrganic I have started using "Ideal" which is mostly Xylatol, plus I mix liquid stevia with it, in my coffee. To me this tastes GREAT! I think "Ideal" tastes as good as sugar, but it is expensive, so I cut it with my home made liquid stevia (made from 10% by weight white stevia powder, 60% glycerin, 40% water by volume mixture). A magnetic stirrer is needed to stir the stevia into the water, because it takes a while to go into solution, then I add the glycerin.

  • @SuedeHillsOrganic Where can I find the "green" stevia? I have been buying my white power stevia on eBay.

  • One thing they didn't mention is that you also absorb cluorine through the skin and you can

actualy absorb more by let say taking a shower than by drinking it.

  • @mikeelman What makes you the expert?

  • Nobody ... but it's true you don't have to be an expert to know the info its out there.

Its about having knowledge not been an "expert" :)

Also what drives you to say that to me anyway ??

  • @mikeelman Because this is my channel and I do not allow people to just spout their "feelings" without support that what they say is indeed correct - without a response from me. How do I know that you know what you are talking about when you say you can absorb more through their skin by taking a shower, than by using Splenda? I have never heard this before.

  • And Sweet & Low (Saccharin) is still banned in Canada!

  • I love Xylitol, but too much of it isn't good at all

  • @penguinisnuts What's wrong with too much Xylitol? I am using it now in "Ideal" sweetener. To me it is the best tasting sweetener, other than Aspertame, and of course Aspertame is bad for you.

  • If you eat too much, it has a laxative effect.

  • @penguinisnuts Oh, ok, that's not that bad. Have you heard of any other negative effects?

  • NOOOOO!!! AM DRINKING BLEACH!!!!!!! oh crap, i feel sorry 4 my Mom she's

diabetic and all she uses is splenda, and me 2 for that matter. -_-!

  • Use saccharin, Stevia, Xylitol or Agave. Xylitol is available in "Ideal" at some grocery stores, and it and Agave and Stevia are also available at health food stores. They are all better than either Stevia or Equal, for your body, that is. Stevia and saccharin both have aftertaste, but Xylitol and Agave do not!

  • so what. everything is harmful now for example milk, meat and chicken they have growth hormone that can cause cancer or vegetables with toxic pesticide or DNA improved and nobody makes something to stop that. why?, because is cheaper is all about money, I'm diabetic i have use splenda for a year i don't have any problem so is your choice

  • People continue to smoke too!

  • Have you tried Stevia or Xylitol or Agave Syrups?

  • For now...you're only 25...wait until another 10 to 15 years. Please check my channel for more info and why they are doing this to us. Spread the word, thank you.

  • Very good commentary on this vid here ... Take heed folks and protect any children you may know.

  • Chlorine is bleach. Splenda is BAD BAD!!

  • I use stevia and agave sweetener, you can pick it up at amazon for cheap.

  • aspartame was slowly killing me,i had migraine headacheseveryday and i have sum nerve twitching all over my body,i feel much better since i been off of that poison....

  • they should also add its addictive. I am 24 born in 1984 and my mom thought it would be better to give it to me so i wouldnt get over weight well now im overweight and I have tried to kick diet sugar but i can i am addicted to it. I have tried to just drink diet soda in moderation but i cant overcome diet pepsi or other types of diet cola's

  • Anyone who knows just a little bit about chemistry will rofl now.... NaCl (Salt) has also got Chlorine in it... so just because somethin is made from Chlorine doesn't mean it's toxic. And just because the Sucralose-structure is similar to DDT doesn't mean it's got the same toxicity. Just look at this: Everyone consumes H2O (Water). But just because H2O2 looks similar doesn't mean you can drink it...try, and you'll see....

  • You are not listening closely to what they are saying. They are saying that sucralose may release free chlorine into the body. NaCl does not release free chlorine into the body. Our stomachs also produce HCl (hydrochloric acid) to digest our food, but again, this does not release free chlorine into our systems either! Free chlorine would be very bad for the body, if it is indeed released!

  • I've been obese my whole life and stopped using Nutra Sweet and Splenda after Thanksgiving. Since then it's taken away my food cravings for anything sweet including ice cream one thing I've always LOVED. I've had a steady weight loss since then. I think the advice of staying away from these products is right on the mark.

  • Just use stevia (5:49). No calories and its all-natural. kinda expensive, so I just use it twice a day

  • if it may cause cancer so why do they still sell it then?is it because it's cheaper? because it's hard to take it off the counters? could this help in curing cancer by a backwards study?

-just some questions to think about

  • Stubbornness of the FDA to listen to outside studies, and lobbies and politics.

  • thanks.the questions are still open for anyone who wants to answer, there's always room for discussion.
