ah, memories of playing this to death with my battery operated Tepez record player on the 107 bus going to school, then doing the same during school lunch break in the grounds of the Alexandra Palace.what a fantasic Jo Meek production even today it still sounds great.this record together with Chas & the Boy's helped inspire me to taking up the Bass.nice to hear it again, thanks Bill of RJ4
what an 'absolute' GEM!!!... Monsieur Meek at his 'VERY' best...1961, for me, was the 'pinnacle of Joe's recording/record producing career. A 'great' sound, and some 'really' innovative guitar work from a 'young, but BRILLIANT' Richie Blackmore... FABULOUS, indeed!!!!!!!... Roger James (Roger James Four) Please see: Roger James Four - Better Than Here...

@MrRogerjames Hi, it was'nt Richie on lead guitar on 'Swingin'Low' it was a chap called Billy Kuy. Richie did'nt join till 1963, this was released in 1961. If you search on youtube 'Johnny Remember Me' you will see a clip of them. The late session drummer Bobby Graham, Chas Hodges of Chas 'n Dave on Bass and Billy Kuy on lead, the other member escapes me at the moment. Billy was a great player but quite belligerant. He's still around and has attended a few re-unions.
@tonyp1945 Consider me 'suitably' corrected - I was unaware of Billy Kuy (a fine player!) Will check John Leyton clip... I knew Chas Clem Roger etc I was a pal of Heinz & was to take over in Tornadoe's after his solo venture - it didn't work out with Joe - say no more (this was circa 1962/3 I was with the Reg Calvert stable. Bobby was on my first Decca demo (he was then with Joe Brown) I used to sing Johnny Remember Me (with my orange Gretsch) Once again, thankyou for putting me right! Roger...
@MrRogerjames Thanks for reply Roger, only reason I know is I remember slaving over my dad's radiogram around 1962 trying to get it under my fingers. Also I'm a member of shadowmusic.co.uk and there's a guy on there called Rob Bradford who gives talks from time to time at his home town somewhere in the midlands on Joe Meek.I also owned an orange Gretch in the 60's.It was a great era back then, you must have some nice memories being in the thick of it in the right place. All the best and Good luck.
@tonyp1945 Tony - 'incredible' that 'you' had an ORANGE Gretsch, too! Yes, they were the most MAGICAL days of my life, the 1950's &'60's... Great & EXCITING times! Please keep me informed as to any talks etc in 2011 - I'm most grateful to you! Thanks, again, keep in touch, All The Very Best, Roger...

It's good to hear this again, I've still got my original HMV "45" in the attic, I think, can remember first hearing it on the "Light Programme" - so much better sound than Marvin, Welch & Co.
Beautiful*
