  • I'm yet to see a better performance of this pas de deux or even one I like for that matter. don't get me wrong, loads of excellent dancers out there now and from before but none pull this off like these two for me.

  • She's so ethereal, so angelic!

  • Oh, Carla!!You are so beautiful!

  • Родольф Нуреев.

  • In a world full of horror and coarseness Ballet remains as an art form as near to other worldiness as is possible. Long may it live.

  • es parte de Las Sílfides de Chopin????

  • Un verdadero hallazgo, para su epoca. Fracci y Nureyev, dupla magnifica.

  • Nureyev <3

  • Looking for production information for this clip. Dance company? Theater? Year? Who filmed it?

I found a different clip on dailymotion (posted by natella_bon) that seems to be from same production dated 1972. Can anyone confirm that?

  • Very superficial I know, but it's worth watching just for the glimpse of Rudolph in a dance belt.

  • August Bournonville is amazing

  • is it just me or is the music starting at 1:35 used in the classical dance for RAD grade 7?

  • @dancingcaroline yep most of grade 7 is from la sylphide :)

  • @dancingcaroline Yes, grades 5-6 and 7 of RAD are inspired by romantic ballets, and grade 7, particularly, is inspired by "La Sylphide" :)

  • Nureyev--- best Bournanville, -- madness mixed with extremely capable genius

  • Belisimo, such beauty ,grace and elegance, Carla is fantastic!!! "pediatrapaola" thank you so much for sending

  • Lindo, maravilhoso

  • She is very splendid and charming Silphide

  • In this variation from La Sylphide, Carla Fracci IS A SYLPH! Light and airy, a mere wisp on the winds of the Highlands. She's entrancing! Filled with joie de vivre, she brings out James' (Nureyev's) exhuberance. Fracci dances flawlessly. Great balon. JUST BEAUTIFUL!

  • WOW! Nureyev was really GREAT, here! James is a difficult role - very demanding technically and on the body. Takes a lot of strength to get through one exhausting variation after another, all requiring great skill. Rudolph pulled it off beautifully with his usual style and flair, but also with more attention to technical detail than I'm used to seeing. A PURE JOY TO WATCH!

  • Were is video of Makarova and Nureyev?

  • I remember when first time I watched this, immediately fell in love with Fracci.

    She is the ROMANIC BALLET!!!!

  • watching these videos makes me feel excited and amazed, at the same time I get really SAD, this is what ballet is all about and today this idea of ballet is vanishing for some reason I don´t understand AT ALL... Is there a DVD of this? I would love to watch the whole thing...

  • This is from "I Am a Dancer", a film from the late 70ies about Nureyev. I am sure the film is available on DVD. The film contains also many other ballet excerpts and shows Nureyev coaching La Sylphide.

  • ThanKs a lot... my mother told me about that film years ago, because she knew someone who had it on VHS... what a treasure, I´ll try to get it as soon as I can...

  • @odile77 Vanishing how?

  • @odile77 I wouldn't say it is vanishing, ballet was never meant for everyone, unlike pop music. There are enough people that appreciate it and that's enough to keep this wondeful artform going. Let the others think Glee is the apogee of choreography and art, and let them live their lives in darkness.

  • @odile77 I've never seen a DVD anywhere :( But I just put this section from 'I Am a Dancer' on repeat!

  • Wow... where has carla fracci been all my life? that was amazing.. it's as if the role was choreographed for her. either that, or she was a sylph in her previous life!

her port de bras is so beautiful.. and her balon.. my god!

  • @Clockmouth There's an entire generation who's been born and raised 'post-Fracci' and it's a pity. She was THE best romantic dancer- bar none. Also have a look at her Giselle, I've never seen anyone to match her.

  • @kabardinka1 saw her doing giselle many times with rudy, volodia vasiliev, and in 1975 with misha at his italian debut in florence, great times really, and carla was surely one of the greatest giselles ever,

  • @pediatrapaola And she was my most favourite Sylphe! You can feel how youthful beauty and love is frail in her interpretation. It is a miracle!

  • @Clockmouth I sooo Agreee with you

    :O

  • It's just beautiful, they're both excellent here. Does anybody know where could I watch complete version of this ballet? Please let me know if you can.

  • ¡ Gorgeus !

  • EXQUISITE!
