@XxEquestrianIndyxX The wonderful jump he does over the first fence just shows his amazing skill. Not. He acts like he didn't notice it until the last minute so threw himself over it instead :P
Just read the top comments and totally disagree. A dutch gag is STRONGER than a pelham and if you've ever used a pelham you'll know that it can be strong. I was advised against a Dutch Gag by a qualified instructor and was advised to use a mullen-mouth pelham instead. I've used a Dutch Gag so i know that it is a very strong bit.
@honeyshucks0709 I often ride in a double bridle.I will never jump him in a pelham-I am a nervous jumper and tend to fix my hands and will do a lot more damage in a double. He likes this bit to jump in at home-if I jump at shows I use a thin loose ring French link. It's only on the 2nd ring and has a thick French link mouthpiece. We use it on the flat to give him a break from his double bridle - it's halfway between a double and a snaffle.
Your comment is a tad irrelevant as you don't know the pony
@hannahbananaroxsox Aha it's not irrelevant as I'm referring to the video. I can imagine you can do more damage in the dutch gag than in the pelham to be honest as I've said it's stronger. I know what it is, no need to patronise me :S
Your comment is irrelevant as you don't know the pony, don't know how to ride him and don't know me - this video was 2 years ago and I have improved (unfortunately the video camera hates my guts so can't upload a recent video.)
What I'm trying to say is that one bit can be harsh for one horse, but for another it can be mild - he doesn't care what bit he has in. I'd rather have that than have to juggle two sets of reins and then catch him in the mouth
@honeyshucks0709 Oh and we have tried him in a pelham - he HATES them. Much prefers his double (or this to jump in)
The 3 ring gag is mild in the right hands and out of bits that are strong or have stronger options, it is fairly mild due to the rider being able to change the amount of poll pressure on it. Quite a good bit - not a lot offer that.
@dappledbaybeauty It's one of mildest stronger bits that uses a tiny bit of poll pressure. If you can't tell,I am tense and am jumping small due to a lack of confidence.I'd only been jumping 3 months after not jumping for about 2 years after a fall from him-I was scared to go over a pole on the ground during this time!He can get excited and put his head between his knees and tank off jumping-it's scary when that happens, so I jump him in a bit so I can keep his head up.He has a snaffle for shows
@dappledbaybeauty Do some research - a three ring gag is not a leverage bit. The reins are on teh second ring which is fairly mild - the large ring acts like a snaffle, but doesn't give the effect we want. The bottom ring gives the most poll pressure, but this bit works on poll pressure before the bars of the mouth, so in reality is very mild.
I WAS SUGGESTED THIS BIT BY MY INSTRUCTOR WHO IS A BHS QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR AND HAS OWNED HORSES HER OWN LIFE.
@GraceandLolly They're good as you can choose how strong they are! Have you see the videos this girl has though-look at "zekiah on heat"-blames her mare for being in season when it's just bad training!(not sure on the spelling of the mare's name, but I think I spelt it close! Also look at "bareback and bridless"-cute pony, but something is not right. she has her ears pinned back the whole time and she says "she's expressive" when an expressive pony is not like that!
He's in full work over the winter so is fully clipped. We were surprised that his coat was that colour the first time we clipped him. He's such a special pony :L
@missyhenrilol It's hard to when he says "I jumped a jump earlier. I'm done now." He usually just decides to give up halfway round the course - which was when he started hitting the fences, but amazingly they stayed up.
He does enjoy jumping, he just doesn't like using energy :P
@RachyM For a while I thought it might be the computer because it was estimated to take about 70 odd minutes to upload on facebook!
He acts like he's 3 sometimes. The amount he spooks at everything makes you wonder how he actually dealt with the fences his second owners made him jump when he was 4 (bump into his first owners at shows and they sold him to an eventing home when he was four-ish. Some of the stories they tell us we can't believe!) :P
god u can tell hes a connie.just like my Alfie :)

@hannahbananaroxsox A double bridle uses a pelham and I ride in a pelham but use pelham roundings?
I didn't say it was bad, as I love them because they're very versatile, I just said it was harsher than a pelham:}

@KRONC27 I don't have a lot of confidence jumping - I always wear a body protector and don't really jump much more than 2 foot
