Hey! i am very close to putting in a koi pond but i have a question so i live in colorado which as everyone knows means ungodly night time tempuratures and LOTS of snow occassionaly although my area is not that bad. What can i do to ensure my koi dont freeze to death? (a heater obviously but anything else?) I was thinking of moving them indoors but im not sure how much fun that would be for them. Any suggestions?

its so funny, my dad's friend has koi fish. he bought them when they were 3 inches long and now they are 2 feet long. they r really big! he has them in a hugeeee pond its so cool

@pankakesforlife They can handle lower 30's. Fahrenheit. But they do actually make pond de-icers and Pond heaters.

Your fish are absolutely beautiful. Characters too it seems. I just bought a house with a koi pond that has babies in it. Can't wait to see then as large as your fish. My pond is small and not as sophisticated as yours but it is very peaceful and tranquil and easy to maintain. Got 5 orange ones and 1 white one but I think only 2 of them are actual Koi, the white one has Koi patterns but they are too small and timid to see if they have barbs. my friend has koi but the funny thing is that he keeps guppys with the koi! its so funny cause instead of the koi eating the guppys which was what i was thinking would happen, the guppys were like playing with the koi!

@figfewdisgewd I love greenhouses....good luck with your koi pond....just remember to filter filter filter, backwash and change out your water regularly.....Koi can live for over 100 years...

@Kisinkona you dont have to change water, as long as you have a filter and lots of plants, well i never do anyways and the fish are fine, i just add water due to evaporation

Glad you like it....my son and daughter in law do good work....they designed and built this pond themselves...the fish have been in the family for years...some use to belong to my sister.

My son dug and built this koi pond himself...some of the fish use to belong to my sister and have been in the family for years and year. You really get attached to the different fish. It is very peaceful to just sit and watch them glide through the water

Yes, it ispeaceful to watch them swim. I have kois too; i have 99 but now only around 60 kois. I used too so crazy buying them but not anymore cause too much already...lol.
