Being a model for Anorexia is like being a model for AIDS. First of all, as much as I think awareness of this condition should be raised, at no point do I think the word "model" should be involved. Secondly (back to my AIDS reference) it was inevitable that she would die so it's not as shocking as people make out.
It is a disease. It may be self-inflicted, but it is caused by mental and emotional issues. Many people afflicted with this disease can't help doing what they do. Your attitude is disrespectful to the severe emotional trauma that this woman lived through.
Yeah, big success getting to 32kilos. There are people starving all over the workld and she prefers to get fatter on sushimi? Darwin would have been checking his watch.
You have to admit, it's hard to feel sorry for someone that refuses to eat food available to them until they die. After a certain point, it's just called being stubborn.
@mahrqk It's not the refusal to eat food, because that's not what it is. At that point, they have no valid psychological choice as to whether or not they eat food. The bad thing is that they don't get help, and the people who facilitate her life (family, friends, acquaintances) perpetuate such an instance. Hospitalisation is the best option, especially in cases like this, because they are able to monitor and treat the patient as they see medically fit.
@mahrqk Largely, the guilt should (and the responsibility does) lay with the people who allowed this to happen by not hospitalising her. How many medical practitioners and institutions let it go becaus it's not their 'jurisdiction'. Political correctness is only as prominent as the socially constricted people that sanctimoniously follow it.
Some people in my class really upset me sometimes. I'm not anorexic. Not even close. I know I'm skinny and its just in my family and I always will be. My BMI is in the 14s. I hate when they say I'm anorexic, I don't want to loose! at ALL. More like gain if anything. I'm healthy and strong. I wish they would look up what the disease and really find out what it is before they say this.

It's sad that the most beautiful human beings are always the ones who have had to suffer the most... Without pain, can you really empathize someone else's? its so sad because she did ultimately pass away from this illness. i dont wanna say that she lost her battle because she did get to a point where she was able to eat, and was working at overcoming anorexia, but the long term effects of this illness are just horrible. i really do hope that isabelles story continues to raise awareness about all eating disorders. she was so courageous to pose for this campaign and like she said, if she can help someone else, then at least she didnt suffer in vain.
Wow that's sad. Sorry to say it, but anorexia generally is suffered by the less intelligent, more irrational people of the world. Well-educated people who operate by any logic whatsoever understand that it's good to eat a sandwich or fries or something similar every once-in-awhile...and LISTEN, at least consider it seriously, when people tell them so.

Why wasn't she put on nutritious liquids in a hospital? Why did she suffer like that without care or supervision? A campaign and a billboard won't help her yet, she wanted to get a message out. She did. Plus, She evidently could not gain weight on her own. Her stomach rejected everything heavy. Even if her stomach rejected liquids, there are vitamins that could have helped. My sister always criticizes me because I have issues with eating. I don't starve my self but I don't wanna gain weight... I used to weigh 250 pounds and I now weight 157 so of course I'm gonna be scared of gaining weight because being 250 pounds was the worst time of my life... Anyways the point is.. my sister tells me I look sickly. and I look NOTHING like this. I am still considered overweight technically. I feel so bad for girls who feel like there too big looking like this woman.

@tryby12 ... It's actually the other way around... Alot of the girls have gone through sexual abuse, Rape victims, molestation etc... If a lady is very underweight or overweight it reduces the likelyhood of being a victim again and they can be left alone...
There's more to the psychology of an abuse victim than 'being super skinny will protect me'. The abuse leads them to feelings of self hatred and worthlessness. One of the ways that manifests itself is in them looking in the mirror, and hating what they see, which leads them starving themselves to fix the 'worthless fat pig' looking back at them. Denial of food is also a form of self punishment.
And as for the root cause, sexual abuse is not the main cause. Adolescent girls are extremely emotionally vulnerable and self conscious. In schools this results in a proportion of girls venting their own feelings of inadequacy toward more vulnerable individuals, who take that verbal abuse to heart. Being bullied for being the girl who's slightly overweight can have devastating effects on that girl's psyche, and can shape her entire personal outlook from thence on.
Many also suffer from a form of anorexia that has nothing to do with WANTING to be slimmer/smaller but have food restrictions or are severely depressed and refuse to (or just can't) eat. I didn't even know I was anorexic until it was pointed out to me that 1. I should eat more and 2. I looked emaciated. I didn't even notce. Others would make food for me and it would sit there for hours untouched. When I was 82 pounds I realized it.

@sarabeth1410 there is...There is anorexia that restricts so they closely monitor what they eat.There is anorexia binge/purge were they completely restrict and have binge/purge episodes and some exercise too to erase the calories eaten.And some use intense exercise to counter-act the calories eaten...There's heaps...Some only eat food the same colour as their shirt that day, some never sleep because you burn more calories awake.some abuse diet pills and laxatives and diaretics it's quite complex
omg, i suffered from anorexia 3 years ago when i got from 63 to 46 (i'm 169cm) so trust me - i know what im talking about. fortunately my mom found out and she helped me immediately (it wasnt like 'we will try to get over it by ourselves'). i also know some girls that are dying with 30 kilos, so dont say something you know nothing about!
Someone tough, who can push me to extreme limits, bombard me with video thinspo or good websites and tips, be a bitch and call me harsh when I gain weight/ let go/eat, yet make me feel good when I lose it.

Dealing with someone who has anorexia is beyond difficult.
It is not only the sufferer who suffers - the people around them watch helpless as that victim self destructs.
I tried to help my ex girlfriend by telling her how beautiful she was and gave up making an issue out of her eating habits as I thought I was worsening them. Her mother ignored my pleas.
This is a mental illness and should be treated by professionals as soon as you notice any tell-tale signs and NOT ignored as a 'phase'.

I have heard people praising skinny models for being beautiful. I cringe when I see these models and their ribs yet people praise them. It is disgusting how so many men think that stick thin women are beautiful. That kind of praise is what creates anorexics. I was told that I am jealous of these women, how could I be? I might be jealous of Kim Kardashian, J-Lo, etc, because they have nice curves that I don't have, but in no way do i want these models bodies. Why would anyone?
I'm 5'1" and got down to 89 lbs with a BMI of 16.8. Luckily my Dr. lied to me and put me on anti depressants and I gained 40 lbs. The weight fluctuations have left some "scars" and the anti depressants depressed me bc I didn't have a depression problem, but after a few years I went back to a normal weight and have stayed at 110 for 8 years now, though I still feel "chubby".
Come to the USA. #1 combo for breakfast...#2 combo for lunch...#3 combo for dinner and sugar soda all day. Nobody knows how to cook and everyone is a fat as a cow. She will be fat in no time like all America fat heifer women.

It's so hard to beat anorexia because once the damage is done it's hard to reverse. Your organs are shot, your whole body is weak, and you can't take in nutrients even if you do start eating. Nothing in your body works the way it should; it's badly damaged. The big argument has always been "Should we teach sex education in schools?" Screw sex education; educate children about anorexia. Teach them how to survive, then we'll teach them about sex.

@EZtalkman The Eating disorder wants you to isolate yourself, it doesn't want you to have friends... Before you know it you're angry at everyone and paranoid. The eating disorder manipulates it's host it doesn't want help so you can't have friends and fighting with everyone tends to be what happens. It's a big black whole and it consumes you. The eating disorder wants you to die, death is the winning prize. It's like a split personality you never know if it's them talking or the eating disorder!

They may be intelligent on many levels, but on certain levels of basic logic, they're obviously lacking. Yes it's a mental disease and emotionally, not rationally, driven, but understanding that if you don't eat and drink AT ALL that you will not live is just common sense, akin to breathing.

It's a form of self-harm on many levels and it's a dark road and without your emotions numbed out from being unwell you do just want to die... You want the pain to go away, you want the voices in your head to go away and you want to die... It's hard to get support and help because people don't understand just like yourself. People with Anorexia still eat and drink...

Why wasn't she put on nutritious liquids in a hospital? Why did she suffer like that without care or supervision? A campaign and a billboard won't help her yet, she wanted to get a message out. She did. Plus, She evidently could not gain weight on her own. Her stomach rejected everything heavy. Even if her stomach rejected liquids, there are vitamins that could have helped. Possibly, it was too late? Makes me cry. RIP beautiful angel who suffered dearly. God has you now.

My sister always criticizes me because I have issues with eating. I don't starve my self but I don't wanna gain weight... I used to weigh 250 pounds and I now weight 157 so of course I'm gonna be scared of gaining weight because being 250 pounds was the worst time of my life... Anyways the point is.. my sister tells me I look sickly. and I look NOTHING like this. I am still considered overweight technically. I feel so bad for girls who feel like there too big looking like this woman.

There's more to the psychology of an abuse victim than 'being super skinny will protect me'. The abuse leads them to feelings of self hatred and worthlessness. One of the ways that manifests itself is in them looking in the mirror, and hating what they see, which leads them starving themselves to fix the 'worthless fat pig' looking back at them. Denial of food is also a form of self punishment.

And as for the root cause, sexual abuse is not the main cause. Adolescent girls are extremely emotionally vulnerable and self conscious. In schools this results in a proportion of girls venting their own feelings of inadequacy toward more vulnerable individuals, who take that verbal abuse to heart. Being bullied for being the girl who's slightly overweight can have devastating effects on that girl's psyche, and can shape her entire personal outlook from thence on.

Many also suffer from a form of anorexia that has nothing to do with WANTING to be slimmer/smaller but have food restrictions or are severely depressed and refuse to (or just can't) eat. I didn't even know I was anorexic until it was pointed out to me that 1. I should eat more and 2. I looked emaciated. I didn't even notce. Others would make food for me and it would sit there for hours untouched. When I was 82 pounds I realized it.

@sarabeth1410 there is...There is anorexia that restricts so they closely monitor what they eat.There is anorexia binge/purge were they completely restrict and have binge/purge episodes and some exercise too to erase the calories eaten.And some use intense exercise to counter-act the calories eaten...There's heaps...Some only eat food the same colour as their shirt that day, some never sleep because you burn more calories awake.some abuse diet pills and laxatives and diaretics it's quite complex

omg, i suffered from anorexia 3 years ago when i got from 63 to 46 (i'm 169cm) so trust me - i know what im talking about. fortunately my mom found out and she helped me immediately (it wasnt like 'we will try to get over it by ourselves'). i also know some girls that are dying with 30 kilos, so dont say something you know nothing about!

Dealing with someone who has anorexia is beyond difficult.
It is not only the sufferer who suffers - the people around them watch helpless as that victim self destructs.
I tried to help my ex girlfriend by telling her how beautiful she was and gave up making an issue out of her eating habits as I thought I was worsening them. Her mother ignored my pleas.
This is a mental illness and should be treated by professionals as soon as you notice any tell-tale signs and NOT ignored as a 'phase'.

I have heard people praising skinny models for being beautiful. I cringe when I see these models and their ribs yet people praise them. It is disgusting how so many men think that stick thin women are beautiful. That kind of praise is what creates anorexics. I was told that I am jealous of these women, how could I be? I'm 5'1" and got down to 89 lbs with a BMI of 16.8. Luckily my Dr. lied to me and put me on anti depressants and I gained 40 lbs. The weight fluctuations have left some "scars" and the anti depressants depressed me bc I didn't have a depression problem, but after a few years I went back to a normal weight and have stayed at 110 for 8 years now, though I still feel "chubby".

It's so hard to beat anorexia because once the damage is done it's hard to reverse. Your organs are shot, your whole body is weak, and you can't take in nutrients even if you do start eating. Nothing in your body works the way it should; it's badly damaged. The big argument has always been "Should we teach sex education in schools?" Screw sex education; educate children about anorexia. Teach them how to survive, then we'll teach them about sex.
