Pilot said he had an inaccurate map and only had 2 practice flights, I think only 1 over the actual location. He requested another training flight and was denied because of a "fuel shortage", i.e. the generals didn't want to spend the money. He also claims there was a technical problem and in another, clearer, video it looks like one engine starts smoking like it flamed out. So left wing stalled, etc. He was still sentenced to 14 years in prison, navigator 7 years, & four generals 4-6 years.

@rustynalez It's always futile to answer, but I'll give it a go. Most people at these airshows have seen low passes, and they were certainly expecting one. When things turned nasty, they started to run, but there is this thing called reaction time. The brain processes that there's a jet coming at you, you get amazed, and then start to run. By the time this process is over, the plane is gone. The smoke in "the distance" is the wing brushing the trees. As for the ejection: watch the canopy!
@Oerrrsch I'm not doubting this happened, the video just seemed odd. I see the ejection, and canopy, once the plane hit. He must've been trying to stay with the plane to direct it away from the people. The smoke I was referring to was the plume AFTER the crash. It appears far in the distance, yet the plane hit closer to the cameraman. Maybe the people were in shock, so they didn't run. I'm not insensitive at all. Quite the opposite. @rustynalez It's always futile to answer, but I'll give it a go. Most people at these airshows have seen low passes, and they were certainly expecting one. When things turned nasty, they started to run, but there is this thing called reaction time. The brain processes that there's a jet coming at you, you get amazed, and then start to run. By the time this process is over, the plane is gone. The smoke in "the distance" is the wing brushing the trees. As for the ejection: watch the canopy!

@Oerrrsch I'm not doubting this happened, the video just seemed odd. I see the ejection, and canopy, once the plane hit. He must've been trying to stay with the plane to direct it away from the people. The smoke I was referring to was the plume AFTER the crash. It appears far in the distance, yet the plane hit closer to the cameraman. Maybe the people were in shock, so they didn't run. I'm not insensitive at all. Quite the opposite. Some parts of this video just didn't make sense. Thanks

Not something to be laughed about! f.y.i the pilot and navigator both recieved long prison sentences for failing to keep to the original display plan. For all those affected by this tragedy the vast mojority of us feel your grief.

@MrJerry196 Bull shit they received prison sentences! They were grounded while the crash investigation went on and were flying afterwards. Came out that the turn they did wasn't with enough speed so they lost lift and stalled out.

@OneSkiWonder Well if what you say is correct then fair enough, (I heard different) However it's still not a subject to laugh at the people, many children included who went to see this airshow paid the altimate price.The pilot flew out of a loop lower than he entered it lacking the speed and hight as you so rightly stated, resulting in all those casulties. That is a basic flying mistake and at the very least he should have been grounded and retrained.

@fiestafashion Just be glad this is the shortened version of the video clip. The original is like 15 minutes long and shows in graphic detail dead children with limps cut off and others with the parent dead and the child standing over their parents. The people who are laughing at this have not experienced death first hand and are probably a few years short of graduating middle school.

I too have seen a longer version, although only about an eight min long one, that was absolutley gut wrenching, I couldn't agree more, some people are just so thoughtless and childish with their comment's and why some seem to think this is a fictional event is beyond me!? Having witnessed a fatal airshow crash myself in 1996 I can assure those doubters, this was a real accident and people, including children did lose their lives, so please show a little respect!

i was actually there in the video sort of, were the plane flew over the trees next to the parking lot. the plane struck a big tree and it fell onto a car just two feet away from me.

Dang... I've seen the entire video and is very graphic, there are bodyparts of children and adults spreaded all over the crash site. The Pilots chose to save their own asses instead of crashing away from the crowd.

First off, they were no Russians. Secondly, it's a huge tragey for Ukraine and stop bringing this up. Please remove this from public domain, it's not woth it. Those who suffered will remember, those who didn't - don't need to watch it. We all remember. I'm a Ukrainian and I remember but I don't want my daughter watch this video.
