We know there are biological components of homosexuality because studies on identical twins have almost always the same sexuality, but that doesn't mean there is a "gay gene", it could come as a by product from another gene, and environmental and societal matters also contribute (look at ancient Greece). The Point is we don't know so we can't judge.

Attraction, towards a sex, is not a choice because we cannot control how our brain responds to a gender. its never really a choice. its never really a born trait either. its decided on a mental level through a complex interactions of a persons experiences and believes, on a subconscious level, around adolescent age.
people claiming its a choice, are probably being ignorant and making assumptions, and also usual on the basis of antigay dogma.
people claiming its a born trait are themselves also making assumptions and being, less, but still ignorant, but are at least to try to attain acceptance.

So, eventhough, their body is male, their brain tells them "I'm a girl". So they are very feminine, they typically share more in personality with females than their own sex and are attracted to other men in the same way. The same goes for the opposite side of the spectrum. Boy body, girl brain. Girl body, boy brain.

on the topic of brain, yes, patterns have been found regarding corpus collosum and other areas
and levay found a connection with a certain gene (X-52 i think). plus monozygote twin studies show a lot of equivalence.

@singerg02 but still, the research is not at all consistent; both the data in the actual studies, as well as the other studies presented. its just convenient and frustrating that studies tend to support an obvious agenda.
I'm mostly gay myself (complicated XD) but I did an extended essay into this as part of psychology, so I can give you links etc of studies from both predeterminist views, and also studies that looked at sexual reorientation therapies :P

I don't agree that "gay is a choice", but I think both sides like to simplify the issue a little bit too much. We know there are biological components of homosexuality because studies on identical twins have almost always the same sexuality, but that doesn't mean there is a "gay gene", it could come as a by product from another gene, and environmental and societal matters also contribute (look at ancient Greece). The Point is we don't know so we can't judge.

How do you all know that Sarah means her friend chose to be gay? Have you ever thought of the possibility that maybe she meant that her friend chose to be with other women instead of being single? Regardless of WHY people are gay, the fact is some people get butterflies from kissing, get crushes on, get emotional support from, and fall in love with members of the same sex. @MrAkaReckless How is being gay a choice? If you show me how one can choose how one's brain and hormones react to a sex, then I will believe you. Until then, I know it is not a choice. Majority of doctors and scientists believe that it is not a choice, because biologically, humans nor animals do not choose attraction. It is build in us. Never has there been a case when one has been able to choose to be attracted to someone who they weren't already naturally attracted to.
