  • dedicated to Tio i topp (Top Ten), the long-running chart show of Sverige´s Radio (Sweden), which was born in 1961 and was copied here in Finland by national YLE Radio in form of Kahdeksan karjessa (Top 8), starting spring of 1962: Alma Cogan´s version of Tennessee Waltz was among big winners; The first ever Tio i topp number one was Eddie Hodges with I´m gonna knock on your door. A tv documentary about Tio i topp´s journey was made by Rolf

Hammarlund (also films 60´s and 70´s) not long ago.

  • Alma was cool. Her voice was great. A fan from sweden.

    ALMA COGAN WITH SPECIAL

    THANKS TO EUFON & INGER

    ALMA COGAN, UK

    Goa tider !

  • @puddelisa På min lista oxå!! Alma Cogan - The Tennessee Waltz

  • Ihana kappale, aivan liian nuorena edesmenneen isosiskoni lempikappale!

  • Underbar sång, en riktig klassiker! Tack!

  • Savon prikaati kesä -68 keskusradiossa soiteltiin tätä vieläkö joku muistaa terveisin Seppo.

  • Alma var bäst.

  • mycket bra sång

  • You must have shit in your music ear if you don't like this kind of music!

  • This ruined the song

  • ten ten ten great version ronaldo 7627

  • Har singeln,,,bara en sån sak!!

  • This is so horrible that I couldn't stop listening

  • 'the Ten-Ten-Tennessee waltz'

  • An updating of the '50s ballad by Patti Page, modernized with a slightly go-go beat for the '60s.

The first notes anticipate the sound of "Winchester Cathedral" by the New Vaudeville Band, released a few years later.

  • WOW what a great beat, just love her rendition.

  • The best version of this song!!!!!

  • The worst version of this much recorded song, ever!

  • @pettsonse I agree, this is bad. Real bad. But I'm not a fan of 60's 70's music either. It hurts my ears sometjmes!

  • love it

  • There is another great version of this tune by the "Heartbreakers"...and it on Youtube, if you google it.....

  • Mycket bra!

  • I agree Stoned1959 best version. EVER!

  • I had the fortune to see Alma Cogan, performe live at Palma de Majorica Spain in september 1964, and she was beautiful. It hurts in my hear that she had to pass away so young. I will never forget you angel.

  • @ceylon1964 In my heart .. sorry

  • @ceylon 1964 Sorry I am getting old , It was in september 1965. I was 24 years at the time. And my home land is Denmark. Explains the mistakes

  • helt outstanding

  • Fabulous version! Just fantastic!!! This is absolutely a classic!!!!!

  • i like it very much.nice version of an american standard.

  • why she shoud to yong, amazinh

  • FABULOUS this has to be the ultimate version outstanding. Thanks for posting.

  • tells the world: THAT'S THE ONE !!!!!

  • I like this version

  • She is outstanding! Hopefully she will feel our appreciation of her in heaven..

  • I remember being two years old in my crib and remember this song playing on the radio!!! In fact I bumped into this song by accident and all the memories came flooding back like it was yesterday. What a trip to remember this so vividly.

  • time flies

  • Alma´s version is great, but I´m pretty sure she had heard Bobby Comstock´s quite a few times before recording her own version

  • superb

  • Lika bra som Patsy Cline!

  • min pappas absoluta favorit

  • The bass guitar made a terrific impact in the juke box at that time and with this song. Am I the only one to remember this ?

  • The electronics were not very good at that time

The bass quench out most of other instruments in some parts. Probably due to a preamp with surplus ECC 83 as tubes. But it has it charm - it was one of the first records with a dominating Bass guitar.

  • beautiful background-choir arrangements

  • Should have been a big hit in the USA.

  • The song which it is rhythmical, and is really good!

  • this is indeed a wonderful version but please take a moment to listen to mr soul sing it....soul as in SAM COOKE-TENNESSEE WALTZ

  • One of the best songs ever made!!!

  • This is a remarkably flexible song from PeeWee Hunt´s hand - there are innumerable versions, ranging from slow waltz thru r&r to dixieland, none of them really bad. Alma´s rock version is outstanding and will live forever!

  • You call this a Waltz? I don't think Pattie has to worry about this version at all.

  • Oh man. It's imho some fine rock'n'roll styled cover Patti would be proud of.

  • fat! nothing else to say :D

  • what a vibe! luv it~

  • Best version EVER!!!

  • Great version - especially for the time period it was made.

  • I agree with you.

  • Super Remake!!!

  • All very well, but somehow she has managed to turn what is supposed to be a waltz into 4/4 time. Very strident too - I think I will stick with Patti Page for this one.

  • I think this is best version of this song that i've heard.

  • I met Alma`s cousin in the Army, around 1969, and he told me about Alma`s mother, being such a fuss- pot.

his name was Alan Cogan. I used to borrow his Brylcreem. Are you still out there Al ? Stan. 40th Regt: R.A.

  • Lovely.......

  • A fabulous version of a great song - Alma did her own thing, just like Anita Lindblom who took a rather dull little tune (You Can Have Her) and turned it into the never-to-be-forgotten "Sånt är livet"...All great performers die young: Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Gram Parsons...Tack så mycket for posting this song!

  • She died when she was 34 years old. What a pity.

  • @nohandstv

yes, a waltz is ¾, but listen to the lyrics:

    >>>I was dancing with my darling to the Tenn-Tenn-Tenn-essee waltz when an old friend I happened to see introduced her to my darling and while they were dancing my friend stole my lover from me oh, I remember the night at the Tennessee waltz now I know just how much I have lost

I lost my darling the night they were playing the beautiful Tennessee waltz

you see the music doesn't have to be a waltz -

    she's just sharing :)

  • How true. Remember Mocking Bird Hill 1949? (I bet you don't), which was waltz time, but by 1964 it was in 4 time by The Migil 5.

  • Love Alma, this one was a the summer hit in Sweden once, and may it live

  • Sehr positiver touch good for ever super Alma

  • schöner Rythmus >> motivierender Text

Höre ich immer wieder gerne ....

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA EPIC

  • @InnocentWar1

Kan inte mer än hålla med dig.

  • R.I.P. alma

  • I have a brief video clip of Alma singing The Tennessee Waltz on a teen dance show.

  • much better than the kiki daniellson or whatever the heck her hame is. She doesn't sound like a trailer park smoking woman, and YES can sing better. Just listen. How do you get a hillbilly from was it SWEDEN?

  • Isn't a Waltz supposed to be in 3/4?

  • This IS a classic!!! Absolutely rare and best version!!!

  • kjeengyout: You lucky thing! I wish I'd been around all those years ago to see Miss Cogan perform. She was just the best singer/entertainer ever! Thanks to FrejaThe Cat too for posting this. ;-)

  • Yeah, can't thank you enough. This is awesome. Love it. What a great song and singer. Just found Alma Cogan today. Wasn't familiar with 'The Tennessee Waltz' either. It's all new. Thanks.

  • Thanks so much. I was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1964. Love this video.

  • The best version of this song! Thanks for this posting!

  • Sorry, no. I'm by no means an expert in Alma, and this one was put here solely because I thougt it would be fun for some friends to hear it.

  • @FrejaTheCat Her last UK hit was in 1961 ... this release is from the spring of 1964 ... she was still making decent records like this one right up until her untimely death in 1966.

  • @FrejaTheCat No need to apologize! This is the internet; you're 100% guaranteed to get complainers ;)

  • Can you tell me , where I find the music "I believe in Love", from Alma?
