Interesting.. How low would the RPMs be at a low engine loads? I am asking because I am trying to figure out if sequential would have benefits for daily-driving. I mean do you see nice results all the way to around 2000RPM? thats is usually when I shift gears while daily-drivin(when im not driving maniacly). If it is only for idle or i assume up to 1000 RPM then it might not be worth doing it?...
It mostly affects idle up to maybe 1500 rpm. It also has a bearing on your accel and deccel enrichments. I had perfect idle abilities with my ms1 setup with 42lb injectors and the stock ignition running through the squirt. With my f303 cam I had to keep the idle in the 900 RPM range though. I will say that when I switched over to the ls2 coils (fired in wasted spark mode) it dramatically improved my idle quality...allowing me to dip down into the 750 rpm range without issue.
Wow strong car bro! Hey I have noticed your AR guauge shows a ratio of 16/1 sometimes when cruising, is that really what you run on at cruise?? I read somewhere that factory sets it to the stochiometric 14.7 and that going all the way to 16 can get you better gas mileage but worst exhaust emissions. Is that true? What is your mpg if you dont drive crazy? Can you tell us a little about the fuel injection and ignition setups that you are running?
Thanks man! Yes, you can get better fuel economy if you are able to lean it out at cruise...but in my case, the engine really didn't care for it that much. For the most part, I did keep it between 14.7 and 15.5. Some of the dips are likely throttle transitions...or, perhaps that could have been before I had my tune locked in. As for fuel economy...I can get in excess of 28mpg if I keep the speeds at 70mph (3.27 gears help out quite a bit too).
@mustangcrazy77 I see you have gone quite far on the MS road. Now that it is said and done would you have done things any differently as far as tuning? Are you satisfied with MS and your setup? Any plans for the future?
I have an 02 GT. My plan is to get MS, build it, hook it up, tune it without mod to learn MS, try to get close to the factory tune. Then add ethanol running capability, then a couple turbos. Do you think that is a reasonable plan or am I doing it out of order? HP will be<400hp

With my situation, I would have done the same thing given the chance. With the MS3 coming to fruition however, I would no doubt choose that over any of the previous version. It is more expensive, but FAR more capable. You get full sequential fuel and spark as well as a host of other features (even an onboard SD card for datalogging without a laptop).
@mustangcrazy77 Well it is interesting you talk about this because I have been wondering if sequential would have benefits. I like to "engineer" my projects and if it would be even better for the engine I will definitely look into also making the ignition/injection sequential. I am a big fan of SD cards too! I think I am sold on the MS3. Also for simplicity purposes I will need to start by doing things that have allready been done...Just for the beginning. So maybe MS2 only for now hehe.
The benefits of sequential are noticed when you start running larger injectors...especially seen with running ethanol. This of course is only during idle/low load areas where injector opening time comes into play. The bigger the injector, the quicker it's needed to turn on/off to squirt the small amounts of fuel for those low load areas of a fuel table.
As for the fuel injection and ignition, I was running a megasquirt ECU controlling 42lb injectors as well as the ignition (all new fuel and ignition maps based off of atmospheric pressures...aka speed density). I initially ran the stock TFI with the megasquirt and later on switched over to 8 ls2/truck coils with a 36-1 wheel added behind the crank pully.
right being the cheaper kit im sure some things arent the best, but really i mean im getting the upgraded mpt70 witch is the same as all the other kits bov/wastegate is diff, and the only thing i didnt like what the hotside tubeing because they are just a 304 stainless steel not the mild steel like in the b&G kit i just dont see where the thousand dollar diff comes into play. thanks
The wastegate/BOV is a fairly large difference in price. They switched to mild steel as their stainless is junk (like all other imported kits) for headers. What your paying for with B&G is better materials, better components (wastegate, bov, flanges etc.) , better design, better quality control, better fit and finish etc.
I've heard both. I've never been a fan of them from the beginning. They were using inferior metals and had some crazy false advertising. With some gentle persuasion, they have since addressed both...but the owner IMHO is a tool. With that said, there is nothing else in the price range comparable. If it were me, I'd go with a B&G setup...as they are produced right here in the USA, have excellent fit and finish and customer service. Sure they are a bit more, but they have better everything.
Check out B&G turbo. They are VERY reputable and offer second to none customer service. Another place to check out is turbomustangs as it is the biggest pool of info available for adding a turbo to your stang.

ya i wanted a turbo but i didnt feel like spendin 5 grand on it 1700 not bad and i now a buddy who has got a shop and builds some sad cars mostly restors old cars ROXPERFORMANCE
8psi :o that's awesome man. I made 496/529 on my single 62mm 382 @8psi as well. whats done to the motor? I use a DSS 382ci long block w/ AFR 185's (street port) TFS U/L, Cam is a Bennett custom, 3.73 on a 28" tire works for me. It's a Hellion kit but swapped the log header and mated it to a HP one. I know my numbers are a bit low but I run cheap stuff and could never use more than this for my spirited street driving. I rarely track it here, only when I add something new and "test 'n tune" it :P
It's a stock rebuilt shortblock along with TFS track heat heads, Eddy performer intake & and f303 cam with 1.7 rr's.
Your numbers do seem quite low...but I could see a good deal of that coming from a conservative tune. Your right though...it's more more than enough for most.
Im planning on building a Turbo'd Foxbody as well, I cant wait for the feeling when your cruising along at 65-70mph and romp on it and leave strips on the road =)
Nice ride
Could you message me with your build up and turbo set up so i can get some more ideas
Here we go now! I love it man,the car dont look special but it will definetly run..Thats what making a sleeper is all about..

My first go if I remember right was right around $1700. This was with upgraded injectors and MAF, but locked timing and no tune.
I a bit more into it now, but it's mostly just in the wideband & megasquirt ecu.
