  • Oh! At 6:50 it's like listening to two people debate over coffee. Back and forth, back and forth, happily. So beautiful!

  • If Mozart were alive today, I would throw my underwear at him on stage. No fooling ;)

  • Just too good for words! Thanks for uploading it!

  • 7:38

  • I don't know if it's an ilusion of camera for me, but I just now noticed that Vengerov plays with a higher than average bridge, he's so awesome :) And I can't believe this is the first I listen of Laurence Power, such a gifted violist. The Viola is sadly a very underrated instrument, so beuatiful in tone, why is it so overlooked by most composers?

  • does anybody know who the concertmaster is?

  • You all are just Viola haters in general

    Bravo Mr Power!!

  • @SGH28N Do you even play? Do you even realize that music means different things to different people? I mean... music MOVES you if you feel it. I LOVE, the movement and communication the two soloists have with one another. Music should be fun to play, and that's why they move. Because they are having FUN. Not to go off on you, but you seem real stupid when saying things like "they look like they have carrots in their butts". Really? They're musicians, not muppets.

  • @SGH28N Why don't you just pay attention to the hot chicks in the orchestra instead then

  • @SGH28N maybe this watch?v=UheDYlNHCXc&list=FLnc4XYJgXNsawvyiW4wUpBg&index=5&feature=plpp_video hope you enjoy that version.

  • These men loved playing this wonderful work by a Master. Was the problem with men enjoying themselves.?

  • This is the most tepid, uninspired rendering of the masterpiece I have ever heard. Technically correct - but soulless. Very unpleasant experience.

  • @MarcusCMarcellus Buy a dildo douchebag

  • @MarcusCMarcellus PFFFFT, ahaha. You've got to be seriously kidding. I completely agree with saxzw.

  • @MarcusCMarcellus I personally enjoyed their interpretation. (Very much so, if I may add) But you sir, are a pretentious douche.

  • A few days ago, the PBS in my area aired “Live From Lincoln Center” kicking off the 2011 Mostly Mozart Festival. The first night fittingly featured all Mozart’s works, 4 pieces in all.

The second performance was this K364 which is the only symphonic work he composed with a solo violin and a solo viola. Listening to the beautiful music is already blissful beyond descriptions. Watching the two soloists’ interactions adds fragrance to the heavenly atmosphere. This YT version is equally well done!

  • What a beautiful piece of music played with a joy and musicianship worthy of Mozart. Mozart's music is like the sun coming out on a dark, cloudy day.

  • I would prefer less showmanship from mr. Vengerov.

  • Vengerov is absolutely tops for Mozart - and so is Power. And, Helena-angel, music should be a holistic experience, for ALL senses to participate and enjoy...

Anyway, this an outstanding performance - by ALL of them.

  • Why is everybody crapping on the violist?? I found him passionate and very enjoyable to listen to!! Why does everyone have to judge? Why can't you just see and understand what music is REALLY about? (If you don't know, it's about a passion. Not a job.)

  • i don't like them, especially the violist

  • @Jojos25 Why?

  • The viola player suck!!!

  • @1186841 why is that?

  • @1186841 You know what? What makes an orchestra a great orchestra is the members thinking of what they sound like as a whole. You should never think that "Well, everyone else sucked; I played MY part good, though..." That's not what music is about. Music is about the whole, not just individual parts. Think about that.

  • less dissonancess play this song and others better; no offense

  • Maxim..Would you marrie me???

  • Does anyone know why mozart didn't name this piece "double concerto" rather than "sinfonia concertante"?

  • @yotubby123 according to the naxos music dictionary, the title "symphonia concertante" is synonymous with a concerto with 2 or more instruments.

  • @cameronsanati which is weird cuz prokofiev has a cello conterto entitields symphonia concertante

  • 4:08 - 4:16 are probably the best music lines I have ever heard in a symphony.

  • I can play this on the cello

  • @baiyuli97 really?! I've been looking for the viola part with a cello transcription, where'd you find it?

  • Lawrence Power needs to run this world.

  • amazing

  • i think this is one of Mozart´s most refine and exquisite pieces....

  • Thanks a lot for posting this recording here!

  • SUCH A WOUNDERFUL DANCE BETWEEN THE TWO..........

  • why the soloist make stupid faces

  • @msg06769 they are obviously putting on a show for the audience

  • Why don't composers write more viola concertos? Its got a beautiful tone in the hands of this master.

  • @windstorm1000 I once heard the saying that "viola is to duck and violin is to chicken". It seems so apt.

  • Such a masterpiece--works on every level. Mozart accomplishes so much tonal richness by dividing the violas

  • the first note is not together :s

  • excellent to these ears.

  • who doesn't looks ridiculous when they are happy :P

  • Awesome!!! except .... the orchestra

  • They look like they did when they were kids on their imaginary instruments :)

  • This performance is so amazing. I've never liked Vengerov but he sounds great in this video and he works extremely well with Power. This is my favorite interpretation of my favorite "concerto" for viola.

  • 0:46 - The oboist Likes Rob Schneider :)

  • Horn fail at 1:17

  • Their faces are ridiculous, and the professionalism is questionable, but the music is extraordinary.

  • Looks and sound very romantic-intimate

  • How do you play with such animated face expressions? Yet with so much phrasing and flawless intonation and tone quality? I will be pondering that for quite a while.

  • Now, tell me... What Davidian sect does this orchestra belong to?

  • Intonation is very dodgy...

  • I enjoy this leisurely tempo. The playing is so sensitive and lush. It really sounds like everyone involved relishes this music.

  • Mozart just has music bouncing off and out of his head. amazing how much music he wrote and how beautiful it all is. The passion of his music is beyond belief . This is like play time to him. Playing at night with another musician to past the time away. Those were the days!!!.

  • What impresses me more than their facial expressions is the expressiveness of their bowing.

  • ur all stupid people commenting on ppls hair... get a life and listen to the music...

  • i'd like to see them both play with Kissin, it would be a very funny spectacle three crazy behaving musicians! btw Vengerov is a beast.

  • Did they smoke pot before playing?

  • @magrinelli I'll bet playing Mozart baked is a revelatory experience.

  • what is that little boy doing there?

  • @McSplat maybe he has a rich daddy :)

  • I think Power plays a 18' viola, but since he is such a giant it looks a lot smaller on his hands

  • I think Lawrence lacks power.. lol. jk, they're both excellent ;D

  • personally, I like the viola better than the violin. No, it's not beacuse i play the viola... I don't. I play the clarinet.

  • some hott looking chicks for sure they can play my instrument any day

  • Love it sooooo much!

  • BEST song ever! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • should be offered to the patrons who paid hundreds of £ to attend this auspicious moment in British classical music. #3 It's a live performance, get over the fact that you don't like to look at them, if that's the case listen to a recording and stop watching them play. I thoroughly enjoyed this because you see the interaction between soloists and orchestra. There will never be anything like a live performance, especially one that portrays the intimacy and drama such as this one.

  • #1 the playing is phenomenal and there's no going around it. #2 this is Royal Albert Hall, people! In other words, its a live performance in front of a 5,000+ audience in a hall built in the mid 19th century that has seated 9,000 plus. The building is elliptical and in case any of you forgot your calculus and physics, the acoustics run wild. If you think its exaggerated its because we're viewing it from a camera that's in their faces. What about the people sitting in the back, some conveyance...

  • I'm a violist, and I want to play this so badly...

  • @pigsonthewing2002 Don't worry, I'm sure one day you will play it badly! :))

  • @MoscowMaestro Touché sir

  • This is my single favorite youtube video.

  • Phenomenal performance from both soloists!

  • i like it so much...the beautiful music what they make, and the visual appearence too. They seem like enjoying what they are doing...if you play music, communicating is a very basic and important part. They do it so well! Bravo!!!

  • How come everyone is only commenting on how the musicians look like? I thought music was principally to be heard and not (only) seen. How about everyone just LISTENS!

  • @helenagothicangel13 totally agree

  • @helenagothicangel13 I agree with you 100%, however, both these guys look absolutely ridiculous when they play.

  • This is overacted. On my opinion, they exagerate their facial expresions. A serious violonist like Perlman would never do such theatrical show.

  • @josemiguel95 You are calling Vengerov a clown?? so you are being disrespectful and not listening, cleary. I suposse you would prefer two statues playing, instead of two great musicians like Power and Vengerov. It irritating how many stupid things are posted in these videos, all judging facial expressions, I agree with ahim24

  • @josemiguel95 you really shouldn't speak on another artist's behalf. I respect your opinion and you are correct about their facial expressions but to say they aren't serious is very subjective I'm pretty sure you don't know them personally. As far as Perlman is concerned, I suggest you look at more of his videos, he's got it there too.

  • HERMOSO

  • I love the Concert Master's Facial expressions more than Vengerovs' or Powers'

  • LOL......Look at Vengerov's face precisely at the last second of this video...ROFL...hahahahaha...Amazing performance,by the way,as usual. :D His face is PRICELESS.

  • muy buen video

  • I have heard the same theme in some works of Mozart at 5:30,,,anyone remember?

  • These oboists are complete trash. Try playing something on time with a good sound and some phrasing instead of just looking goofy

  • @DrSlinkyWW Can you play Oboe? Really? I think you just don't like their facial expressions. It is extremely hard to play oboe so shut it!

  • this piece is pure pleasure

  • Comment removed

  • Sheet music?

  • @MasterK1ller123 wayyyy too hard for u

  • Does anyone know where to get the dvd for this?

  • faire sonner du mozart n'est jamais facile .

  • @ilostoff Ce n'est pas aussi dur que beaucoup de personnes le font hors être.

  • He is the most gifted violinist and violist in the world

  • for me definitely zukerman the best. vangerov and zukerman on viola. power is kicking too :)

  • Power and Vengerov make a perfect team. Power perfectly balances Vengerov. Having two high power horses like Vengerov and Bashmet would put the piece over the top. Power helps give the performance balance and stability. It's Mozart for goodness sakes, not Brahms. Besides, Bashmet is not the ONLY kick ass violist. Time for people to get used to another phenomenal violist: Lawrence Power

  • wonderful...

  • Vengerov is looking a little stupid maybe to someone when he plays, i think he is cool.

And a hell of a violinist. Viola player is excellent technically, but I think Vengerov needs Bashmet. This violist is just not crazy enough. Sorry for criticizm.

  • listen to powers brahms viola sonatas with ian brown before dismissing him. i saw him live at wigmore - phenomenal

  • If somebody could play this emotional wonderful music without making faces the person would be quite emotionless, i think. So stop commenting their faces already

  • lol 2:23 -2:33. I don't know why, I just cracked up laughing when I saw it.

  • I personally think their (the soloists') movements add to the jovial character and overall presentation of the music.

It sounds fantastic, and I think you should all lighten up on how they look when they play.

  • it,s good but i like it a touch faster it seems a bit dragged

  • I didn't think I would agree so much with the negative coments just because Vengerov was playing, but I do.

  • Nothing looks goofier than Vengerov playing a piece that requires restraint and daintiness... LMAO.

  • Yeah, they look terrible, but what phenomenal playing! I think Power steals the show even from Vengerov. I am totally drawn in by Power's sound; and while one may argue about the stylistic appropriate of their artistic choices, I still admire their musical freedom and control. I maintain that this is Mozart's greatest piece, and in this case, superbly played by some very fine artists. If the show bothers you, just close your eyes and listen...

  • I closed my eyes, and it still bothers me. The intonation and stress points are all wrong. I think Mozart asked for Allegro maestoso , Andante and Presto on the first movt and this is not. Sorry.

  • Great playing, but unfortunately it appears to be a battle of who looks the corniest when they play. And the winner is ... a draw.

  • oh no, vengerov definitely wins

  • I think the differences is size of the two soloists only makes their theam more brilliant. The 'giant' plays the bigger instrument and the communication between the two through music is absolutely fenomenal! Superb interpretation of one of Mozart's best works for strings.

  • dang that french horn player at 3:32, hehe he's fine :) oh yeah as far as the music goes very nice as well lol

  • especially around 4:42

  • rotfl lawrence power is an amazing violist but i think its kinda funny how huge he is in comparison to vengerov he makes him look tiny

  • Their facial expressions and movements are so distracting that i can't concentrate on the music. Sure, it's a performance, but it's not a drama--the music is more important(or just as important) than their movements.

  • i agree , it disturbs a bit..

  • absolutely right. he's very talented, but with an unnecessary show of drama.

  • I was all set to start defending their facial expressions-- until they started playing! They look ridiculous haha! But they play very well together.

  • OMG! i never heared about laurence power O.o the interpretation of the power´s symphony is better than yuri bashmet O.o

  • the best performance

  • Vengerov's Mozart is (way too) sweet!

  • they're so awesome

  • These recordings are a bit too quiet for my laptop. Still great music though! Vengerov & Power rule!
