Why don't you read what the actual producers have to say THEMSELVES, before coming out with such racially motivated drivel! You don't get it - not at all.
Sade is also mixed race. Her Mother is English & her Father is Nigerian. Don't be so narrow minded! See how brass music was massive in New Orleans & learn about the black Irish people - way before mixed race American's even! Jazz is American!

AND I'm Irish. Traditional Irish music - which is ancient, is derived from the assimilation of Arabs (the moors) & what was traditionally here. It's tribal in sound & quite unique from a European perspective - which is more brass orientated. My point being that music has ALWAYS been about assimilation & inspiration. Always.
European artists like Kraftwerk, are great artists in their own right, but you must! remember there has always been a concerted effort to lessen the historical role and place that "African Americans" have played in creating and influencing almost all forms of modern music including House/Techno/Dance. remember?"Kraftwerk" didn't create in a Vacuum or a Void and they most certainly was influenced by music of Black American Origins.
Man, i love this,,,love it,,,it is the very essence of a late night move,,,Sade is, in a different league, and Kenny , well, The Man is The Man...i would kill to own this...some track...love it,just love it..primo track...
I'm white, female & European. I came across Jeff Mills - Live in the Liquid Room Tokyo as a teenager. I was blown away! There was a time when you'd say, "Techno" & people would think, "Trance". I discovered, Dave Clarke's Archive 1, which has a range of sounds at the same time. Dave Clarke would even say that many black artists do not get enough credit for the sound. I liked Techno all by myself for a long time, loved Hip-Hop & House also. Plenty of people like Techno here now, so it's all good.
Not to mention synth pop, avant-garde & the New Romantic movement having a major influence. Techno is just an amalgamation of what was around at the time, that inspired, just like any art movement, is inspired by what was before it. I wouldn't call New Romantic music, 'white' music either, even though many of the artists were incredibly white. Germany was churning out synthy Industrial music in the mid 70's, which was Gothic & Punk inspired. Techno has quite an interesting range of influences.
To be fair, plenty of inspiration comes from Hip-Hop & Electro also. Another reason why the Techno & House scene had plenty of black artists initially, is because many of them came out of the gay disco scene. Some were gay, some were not, but it was not a black thing. Some of them just happened to be black, but they were actually quite Worldly in their taste. Jazz inspired rock music & so did traditional folk music from Europe. Traditional Irish music is quite tribal because of the moors - Arabs

You can't call Techno black! The first Detroit Techno artists were not limited to race. They were inspired by PLENTY of white artists like Kraftwerk & even the Yellow Magic Orchestra, as well as House, which isn't completly "black" either. Also, it was greatly shaped by the technology of the time. English Techno has plenty of break-beat & Garage influences. I friggin' hate such puritanism - dimisses any kind of artistic freedom! In my mind, no pioneering artist would ever be into one genre only!
@deirdreroseable pls, enjoy the music, black or white... Detroit is dying as we speak, because of your elected people. Even though I don't care who's this or that! It is just stupid, beleive me. Enjoy life and have a nice day - step by step, lol :) Seroiusly, peace, fred and sug kuken
@Tarikatlar I don't think Detroit is dieing. I think every European that even nearly likes Techno, appreciates the roots of Techno. People like; Underground Resistance, Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills & so on. Plenty of good artists here fly the flag & pay homage. Personally, I think proper electronic dance music is dead in America, but going from strength to strength in Europe. It's up to you to keep your own scene alive also. If the kids were listening to Techno, Electro & Ghettotech they'd like it.
Speak up! We need to correct such ignorance. Actually techno is originated in Europe by " White' European musicians such as Giorgio Moroder, Cerrone, Kraftwerk, Manuel Gottsching (E-2 E-4) to name a few. Techno influenced American disco heavily,( there is no denying that) which later fused with jazz, funk and American soul and evolved into what some uninformed people "snobly" call "House' It is not exclusively from Black culture.
@pluggedin2u You need to be corrected! European artists like Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder,Manuel Gottsching, ect are great artists in their own right, but you must! remember there has always been a concerted effort to lessen the historical role and place that "African Americans" have played in creating and influencing almost all forms of modern music including House/Techno/Dance. remember?"Kraftwerk" didn't create in a Vacuum, and they all certainly was influenced by music of Black Origins.

@MCVixenVee That's not true! ANYONE who likes music knows how important black artists are in music & they know that Rick James never got the credit he deserved either. Had Teena Marie's soulful voice too, which infuriated many female black vocalists. Any techno producer will say that they were inspired by Kraftwerk, because they all were. It's narrow minded & downright racist to marginalise genre to race. We all know Jazz was quite black - a roots movement. That marginalization ended then!

The complete acceptance of black artist's on MTV only truly came with Michal Jackson. It's a bit backward to play the race card in this day & age - big time! Kraftwerk were also quite pioneering with the techno sound. The equipment they used didn't exist before them. Hip-Hop WAS quite black, but it sampled from a vast multitude of genres. Ginger Baker is probably the best drummer in the world, arguably & he doesn't credit himself for fusing Jazz & rock. He credits polyrhythmic AFRICAN rhythms.
@deirdreroseable Your comments shows you don't no what your talking about, you're young and clueless about music history, and what's up with the MTV comment? no one said Kraftwerk wasn't pioneering, musically speaking they get more credit than what they're worth, they are the complete triumph of "style over substance", and the equipment they used was pretty standard Moog and ARP synthesizers of the time with the addition of Vocoder and custom pads added to standard early rhythm machines.
@deirdreroseable yeah, I wonder why people feel a need to associate its origins (and longevity) with a particular race. Obviously, you can't deny the movement that happened in Detroit was a profound one. But let's not ignore some pretty interesting stuff coming from Europe, that is difficult to describe as anything but techno (for example, 'Bust Stop' by Chris & Cosey, from 1981). Surely the beauty of techno should be in its ability to transcend race, whether that be for producers and listeners
@deirdreroseable You need to be corrected! European artists like Kraftwerk, even YMO and English Techno, ect are great in their own right, but you must! remember there has always been a concerted effort to lessen the historical role and place that "African Americans" have played in creating and influencing almost all forms of modern music including House/Techno/Dance. remember?"Kraftwerk" didn't create in a Vacuum or a Void, and they most certainly was influenced by music of Black Origins.
@Wetworks CALLING TECHNO BLACK IS LIKE CALLING JAZZ, OR RAP BLACK. NOT NECESSARY IN THE LEAST BECAUSE IT IS WHAT IT IS, AND ITS A GIFT TO THE WORLD. IT STANDS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT PLACING UNNECESSARY BARRIERS OF DIVISION. THE WORLD DOES ENOUGH OF THAT ON ITS OWN.
@PaperGarb What's your problem? I was just expressing my thoughts on the track. I'm not gonna apologize for liking the mix of Sade's sweet tones with a raw sound.
More so, I made similar points to the urban community who would make comments that "techno isn't for black people", etc. etc. I would bring up Detroit Techno to let them know that techno is universal, and it would amaze my friends that brothers out of Detroit really had a movement with this thing called "Techno".
Detroit Techno was the foundation of what many call "Techno" today. Berlin picked up the sound and gave it their twist as well.... which is why you see many Berlin/Detroit comp.
Of course we all know Kraftwerk are the godfathers, but Detroit Techno was the revolution.
Those who know, know. In the end, it is about the music! :O)
Don't deny the truth! Rog809 is definitely on point...If you're gonna credit Kraftwerk as being the Godfathers of Techno, then you need to credit George Clinton right along with them... They definitely both deserve their credit. Techno as an artform was started in Detroit, Michigan, USA...by Black folk. Just like Rock, just like Jazz, Just like HipHop... If you have a problem with the truth, brush up on your music history, and fall in line!
Krafwerk my friend back in the day like jmj were call electronic rock or experimental music, of course they create the electronic music movement but techno ,electro, house were develop here in America , electro in the bronx nyc, techno in detroit and house in chicago is history and living prove of that.
krafwerk didn't create techno neither jmj, they provide the sound and the way of creating electronic music, but the style my friend is tottaly diferent , you could atribute to many artist from 70s and early 80s that sound but techno, house and Electro are Amrican music, detroit , chicago, and the bronx nyc
So that's why Afrika Bambaataa took melody for "Planet Rock" from "Trans Europa Express". Kraftwerk is electro, like Black Sabbath is father of heavy metal. House and Techno originated from USA. You could here Kraftwerk influence in some techno and house tracks. But house and techno is more popular in Europe than in USA.
