So purely from this opening, I'm guessing the pink haired girl who wasn't in the first series's main role is to stand and look wistful and cry while the other girls do all the real work

@RaygirlROL just the fact that you posted that shows you know nothing about the game series. In the first game thir was a male main character, he was removed from the anime. She is the female version of him who leads the characters in the second game which is a re-telling with a female main. That's why she's there, learn about koihime musou as a whole before bashing it.
