This is the greatest side-by-side finish in Nascar history. Forget Harvick and Gordon's, this was real racing with real racers. The TV coverage especially the announcers was so legitimate unlike all the contrived FOX junk there is today.
Wow, listen to the crowd when Dale gets out of the car. That proves what a class act DJ is. You know all those people weren't Dale Jarrett fans, but they appreciated him enough to be happy when he won.
These Boys gave Mr.France a One hell of a show..He met with the 2 later that night, (France) got the drinks out and said, Cheers boy's keep going at it..
Dale Jarrett won this race, but as far as NASCAR races go, this race is an EPIC WIN!!! This is what NASCAR racing is all about... We've lost that in today's racing. I just hope that 2010 will bring great changes for years to come.
I was watching it and had plenty of time, but then the pot hole ended up taking too long so I couldn't finish it because I had a Valentines date to catch... Made me mad!
NASCAR is going back to the spoiler this year... Look at the nose of the COT, its very flat like a wall, like these cars are, and these cars were good at racing... I'm not implying we're going to have this kick ass racing here, but with a flat nose and spoiler... We may see some good stuff. Just get rid of the Chase and we'll have Champions who endured and conquered for 36 races instead of just 10
@AngryGundamGamer The cars all have the same body, so they draft poorly and have a hard time passing run the same groove thanks to NASCAR limiting the choice of rear end ratios to three. You end up with spread out fields a few laps into a green flag sement, which is flat out boring when the cars can't pass or draft and all run the same groove.
@Longlakedreaming Thanks for that info because I can never find certain things about the cars online like why Right side Tires wear faster than lefts etc. But yeah the cars back in the 80's and 90's were more aerodynamic and simple and made for better racing. The racing with the spoiler on the COT has made it SOMEWHAT better but it's still not like it was back in these days.
got to feel good for ned..watches dale win his first race, gets to see him win the daytona 500, i bet those two wins are greater for him than his two championships
Proof it takes true skill to race hard and clean instead of banging into each other like a bunch imbeciles. Same for Busch vs Martin at Bristol '09 and Johnson vs. Labonte at Charlotte a few years ago at the 600.
my first two winston cup races i ever went to was this one and the june race the year after. both were historic. this one was the closest finish in history, and jarretts first win, and the 92 race was harry gant winning at the age of 53 and was gants last win, michigan is a great place
First time I got to see that. What a fantastic finish......and don't I love seeing all those Thunderbirds running up front....Did anyone else notice that four of the top five were Ford....but none were Roush. This would be just before Jack 's juggernaut got going.
Ford's have dominated MIS since 1984. The prevailing reason seems to be that the Ford touque curve is ideally suited to the long 18 degree banking in the turns at MIS.
@poko111: If they keep Trevor Bayne for a number of years and develop a better car (not that it's not a decent one, it had quite a few lead lap finishes in 2010 with Elliott and even Bayne in Texas), who knows? It could happen...
I wish NASCAR did more for retiring drivers. It seems like NASCAR just says "see ya" to retiring drivers and doesn't appreciate what they did for the sport in helping it grow. When Jarret, Elliot, Rudd, and others retired it seems like NASCAR could care less. JMT's
@fatriani haha, noob. do your homework. It was by far the closest finish. In fact, NASCAR recently tied it at Talladega with Jimmie Johnson winning. Both finishes had a margin of victory by .002 seconds!
stopped reading at noob, ive been fooled into arguing with a 12 year old it seems. in anycase, it looks like im wrong, you win the internet fight. congrats
It's a good finish from the old days... but I can't help but wonder if the reason people don't like Nascar these days is that the drivers enunciate...
@Cynon44 One of the reasons I lost interest is the "tough guy" image doesn't exist anymore....the "good 'ol boys" have been replaced by Ken dolls....I still say these guys have bigger balls than I will ever have and I'm not scared to admit it....it's just that stock car racing has gone from the tough, gritty, workingman sport to the Wall Street pretty-boy money machine...I'm still a fan, just not as rabid.
I think Bob, Ned, and BP were the best TV crew that ever covered a Cup race. I really miss those guys! I think this era was when NASCAR was at its best.
you're absolutely right for calling this WINSTON cup. winston was is and always will be the real nascar. nextel cup is garbage. blasphemy and sacrilage to stock car racing, because it's not stock car racing, it's SPEC car racing.
Great finish for DJ....but I thought that Morgan Shepard was in that car because didnt he finish 2nd in the Daytona 500 & had a points lead for a race or two?
Great clip. Definitely goes "under the radar" in regards to great finishes. NASCAR misses Bob Jenkins' calls. Need proof? The Busch race at Talladega this year. B. Labonte pulls off an improbable restrictor plate slingshot, and we're hearing about the track lay-out from Jerry Punch. Plain awful.
why isnt commentary like this anymore
