Long jumpers feel no pain, to train all they do is jump, its soooo easy. anything 400m and up is difficult, this event is cake in comparison. why don't you try to run an 800m in sub 1:58? or a 1500 faster than 4:00... then we'll talk.

@sueyking i dont agree with him saying distance runners are pussies, but you are way off saying long jumpers feel no pain, i trained in long jumping in high school and it was hell on my legs i barely had any juice left for sprinting events afterwards. long jumper and triple jumpers constantly deal with stress fractures and knee issues due to the constant jumping its not in any way easy at all

@sueyking I feel like you say this without any experience in the event. Both require intensive training and extensive work; to compare them directly is fruitless since they hardly resemble each other in an biomechanical or physical way.

The way I see it, distance runners with mediocre athletic ability can get reasonably decent just from hard work, whereas many field events and sprinters can only get so far without natural explosion to back them up, but both require incredible work to be elite.

I remember when Bob Beamon jumped 29' 2 1/2 in 1968. It took a long time for that to fall. That jump was so shocking at the time I didn't think I would live to see it fall. Nobody had hit 28' and Beamon flew past it seemingly out of nowhere.
