Egypt and Israel are total US dependencies, receiving greater than $7 billion a year in military and economic support. israel to keep the arabs in the area in line, and Egypt to keep it out of the conflict as it is the most powerful arab state and the only one that poses a threat to Israeli security.

I disagree with Norman. Isrealis, Palestinians, people in the Arab world and the United States support intransigent positions for their own selfish interests. Many US administrations have supported Isreal regardless of its behavior. Many Arab nations support Palestinians regardless of their behavior. Both sides have engaged in terrorism. Mutual, reinforcing, self-rightous retribution seems to fuel the fire. This is why peace is so ellusive.

Isreal is part of the problem. My concern about the tone of this interview is that Isreal is the ONLY problem. Am I wrong or were Jews in Palestine thousands of years ago? Come on people - let us think critically. I believe both Jews and Palestinians have the right to live in Palestine. I do see Isreali agression. However, we should not forget the terroism aimed at Isreal and the United States.

I am aware of the migration of Jews to Isreal. However, many Jews have been living in Palestine for milennia. The fact that Isreal is a colony is nice cocktail party zinger material but is quite irrelevant. What, you want to deport the Jews in Isreal or throw them in a gas chamber? How about we deport all non native americans from the United States? We need to deal with the current situation.

hardly any, if any at all, that have colonized it have any relation to the jews of millennia ago, except for religion.
they are colonizers, and that fact would only seem irrelevant to an apologist.
the colonial context is the reason for the problem to begin with.
i say let the jews stay. give the right of return to all palestinians and have one secular democratic nation.

This is what I am saying - even if there was no migration there would have to be a state of Isreal for the Jews that had always been there. Now, I believe the Jewish immigrants have the right to stay and that arguments that Isreal is a colony is irrelevant. Why do people bother to bring this up? A real solution must acknowledge the rights of both Isreal and Palestine. All nations are an artifact of history - what does this point out that is not already obvious?

the jews that have always been there didn't require a nation. do you recall any jews of the area calling for a nation during the 800yrs of ottoman rule?
as i said, the colonizers and their kids should stay. all palestinians in exile should have the right of return. one secular democratic nation should be created.
no need for religious nations.

jews comprise a religion, thats it.
religions are not nations and are not the artifacts you see them as.

I do not mean to ask what the definition of 'is' but what do you mean by artifact? Example - technology is the technique for creation cell phones. The cell phone is the artifact. The state is the artifact made of human social technology. Religion is an artifact of social technology - it is a nation. The overlap of the nation and a state is the natural combination of two artifacts into the nation-state. In the US, multiple nations exist in one state. This is not possible in Isreal.
