This is one of my favorite pieces! This movement is slightly too hard for me to learn right at the moment so I'm going to learn the 2nd and 3rd ones first (cause the 3rd movement is my favorite piece, not just one of em) :D
Very well done!
Check out Daniel Barenboim's masterclass with Lang Lang on this piece. Very good and useful info in it for pianists in general.
I'm currently learning this song, its my first sonata I'm learning. I just started about a month ago, and sometimes I love it for sounding so awesome, my favorite parts being 2:07-2: 40 and 7:20-7:53, and sometimes I hate it for those particular parts being so hard to play correctly.
Many comments here are either on his brilliant playing or lack of movement. Addressing the latter, my piano teacher told me that the German style of playing does not allow much movement. I know that he's Swiss...but...
I have to disagree with Rubinstein007 about the "outstanding movements". The less body language the better. Feelings for music comes from the heart and brain, and is expressed through the fingers on the keyboard. Close your eyes, and just listen. I think Kristian shows extraordinary feelings in his music. I really dislike watching pianists who flail all over - like Lang Lang, or Cziffra - and have to constantly show expressions of ecstacy. It detracts from the music.
I'm not sure if you are posting for constructive criticism but I will say that I think you are a terrific pianist with a great future but I think this piece could have a lot more passion. Maybe work with the phrasing of the main theme to make it more expressive and try to make some of the "stormy" sections more sudden, not so expected. Most of us know this piece but you can still keep us guessing. But, this is just one opinion. Good Luck and all the best. Your Chopin is terrific!
cool.. I'm thinking about learning this piece, but it all depends on my other pieces for my teaching degree lol and i was born on may 17 1991 haha i really gotta start posting vids.
Someone once famously quipped about another child prodigy, Camille Saint-Saëns: "Il est parfait, mais il manque l'inexperience." This dude reminds me of that.
The playing is good but not great, it lacks balls. Maybe some real life experiences would make this kid reach for the dramatic and sponteanous side of this piece a little more.
As an added note (I make sure to use exactly 500 characters if I'm going to write a very detailed post, so I run out of space), please excuse any grammatical errors, since I'm not so good at multitasking and I often make typos (i.e. see my first post here).
I do; that's all that's to be said. I'm thinking about playing this piece for next year, and I got to say that Kristian was pretty inspirational in my consideration. Though I'm sure that I'm nowhere near as good as him (I'm 13 in summer, and I haven't won any considerably major competitions; my most important one being more of an invitation to a recital at Carnegie Hall-the smaller hall, by the way, the Weill), I just really want to play it. Well, that was way too much information. Cya!
Really? (To the people talking about the Ballades) I personally liked the Ballade No. 2 best (I played it this year, but it didn't turn out that as well as some of my other pieces). Anyway, I thought your (addressing Kristian himself) performance was very good, and you had impeccable technique. However, I just kind of thought you were lacking in expressiveness sometimes, however slow you performed it. The tempo was fine, but some parts are supposed to be played at "choking" speeds intentionally.
There' only four total though...lulz? I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, I'm just saying (you're probably aware of that too). Since I'm a maniac stickler details, I'm going to say that it would be better stated as: "I like the first and last of the ballades the best". :P Well, cya around!
I liked this. I am learing this now and find that the most difficult thing is controlling the repeated notes. This is what stuck out to me in your playing. Very even, and controlled.
Awesome playing Kristian! You have fantastic memory and technique. I am finally attempting to learn this work after teaching piano for many years - it's one great masterpiece. The 12/8 time makes it a bit tricky to count and maintain tempo. How long did it take you to learn? Keep up the great playing mate!
Very subtle and mature interpretation overall. This made me really sit up and take notice, Kristian! Much better than the Chopin Polonaise, too. Kudos!
the boy is a good player, but he's wasting his time with this obsolete music. there's no one alive who knows what this music means, what it expresses; it's all forgotten, lost. music is no more perpetual, immortal, then men are.
very well done. i love anything beethoven. some of the notes you played were not picked up on the mic, but overall you done a good job. good luck on future productions. i imagine you in a tux with an orchestra in the back. world wide web dot gmusicstudios dot com.
