No. National Geographic is using UN figures. The two main bodies figuring world population are the UN and the US Census Bureau. The UN has tended to estimate slightly higher figures than the US Census Bureau. Many animals appear to have no complaint at all, of humanity's expanding numbers. Even animals might understand, that humans too have a powerful urge to reproduce, although animals likely don't think much of such things. Some rabbit that likes to hide under my car, and gazes at me rather than flee. Birds watch humans and cars whizzing by, from their perch on the power lines. Perhaps they too, think humans are amazing, curious.

Why can't you see, that nature, Gaia, whatever you want to call it, is driving human numbers to expand? As another YT video info text opined, Gaia is pregnant and really wants to have this baby. You didn't know that humans are constantly "in heat?" We breed year-round, we are not confined to some limited breeding season, like many animals are. Quite many humans have sex nearly daily, although we are among the slowest-breeding of God's creatures. 9 months in the womb, is a bit long on the gestational average timetable for mammals.

I believe the human reproductive drive is for good reason, not some "evolution mistake" or vestige of the past. I believe it is for today, even within today's populous supercities. The remedy is not less reproductive drive, but to help people find suitable partners to get married, and then welcome them to let the babies push out naturally, without any means of imposing "birth control."

How do you know that there's some level of crowding no one can get used to? Some guy said on TV of 9-11, that he misses his brother. "There was so many of us, we once shared beds." Sounds like he grew up in a large family, within "overcrowded" housing, the house was so full of children. Sounds like he got rather used to it, wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, a larger home would be preferable, if affordable for them.
