This was attached to the original prints of Star Wars a new hope during its release in summer 1977. For older trailers, Warner Home video decided to keep the "Coming Soon" line in the trailer, unlike other trailers where Warner Bros used to remove release dates digitally from trailers for home video release. They have stopped doing that recently, as was the case with Dark Knight, Harry Potter, and Inception.
On Wikipedia (although how reliable that is i don't know) it says that portions of Jerry Goldsmiths score from "Capricorn One" were used in the teaser trailer. I've looked up a few songs from that film on here but I can't find the portion that's in this trailer.
It would be great to be able to put a name to this awesome piece of music!
One of the best teaser trailers ever, simply because it does what it should; excite the hell out of you without giving anything away, so you'll talk about it over and over again!
Its on the special edition dvd of Superman, along with the other trailers. And if you can find it, all the Superman movies are on a collectible tin. In it are the trailers, 40s cartoons, documentaries.
I have been trying to find this out for years. Not even the most die hard fans know what it is. I came home late one night and heard it rolling on the end credits of some lousy sci fi film from the 70's or 80's but can't for the life of me remember the name of the film. That's a starting point though. Blue text, end credits, low budget sci/fi flick. Frustrating.
The music sounds like a ripoff of Siegfried's Funeral March from Wagner's Götterdämmerung (which you may remember from the movie Excalibur). It's obviously a stock production cue, but I have no idea where from...
Best superhero movie ever PERIOD!
