I got to see these guys for my 16th b-day! When that face started talking.. I will never forget that!! Awesome.. Got a drum stick still to this day some where! They were good.. The appearing out the boxes was cool!
I got to see this band live back in the 70's...and I'm here to tell you they put on quite a show. I'm still trying to figure out how they just "appeared" on stage. Thanks for posting...they had some great songs for that era. Whenever I hear this it just takes me back in time...
Awesome song. I live in Vegas, which is also where Frank DiMino lives, so I've seen him perform with a classic rock tribute band. Not surprisingly, they did a few Angel tunes.
I heard that a couple years back that DiMino got together with Barry Brandt and toured as Angel. I guess it didn't last long. I really liked Angel! One of the guys on That Metal Show on VH1 loves them too! He mentions them all the time. Punky owns a tanning salon in Oakton, Virginia and Greg Guiffria is an executive in a big company that builds Carnival and amusement park rides last I heard.
Thanks for posting this, haven't heard this music in a very long time. Graduated HS in 79 and still have the LP Albums "White Hot" and "On Earth as it is in Heaven". Played this at a lot of parties back then.
God it would be great if a DVD was ever released of them live...had the opportunity to see them in St. Louis many years ago...what a great K-SHE classic band
we need Videos !!! and where is L. A Lady / Don't take your Love? I need song/ Video of that ??? But Angel is all good, am 44, and remember the boys from when I was 14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remeber them at the Erie Field House. They came up through the floor. With all the fire works and stuff. That was so cool. Dudes don't have that long hair any more.
One of their more commercial tracks, but a winner nonetheless. Been a big Angel fan ever since the mid-seventies and still give the CDs a spin regularly. You've got some really cool pics on here. Thanks for posting.
Actually it was about Punky Meadows the guitar player of this band and his patented pursed lip pout that he displayed on his promo picture. Whips was an affected way of saying lips. Even though the song is very derogatory Punky took it all in good fun and actually appeared onstage with Zappa in full stage costume and makeup.
Wonderful, so great to see this. First came across them in 1978, while working through a friend's dads record collection. Absolutely blew me away, still does.
I'm a photographer and this is one of the first bands I took concert shots of...this is so cool to find these videos. I can't believe they broke up. Big fan of Giuffria band too!
When I saw Angel way back in the mid 80's they had already stopped all their stage theatrics. They looked like just another band.I guess I missed the all the cool stage hoopla huh? at least the original line up preformed that night.
Punky eh? respect son! i read he retired and was running a tanning salon or summat. why didnt he go back to the reformation of angel? he was a legend mate.
Yeah Punky runs a tanning salon in Oakton,Virginia. He still looks great! Greg Guiffria works for a company that is building the worlds biggest ferris wheel!
ok, it is a bit trivial but thats what u tubes here for. yeah, we have read the same magazine article, he found them performing in a nightclub ( not under the name angel i believe ) and signed them up to casablanca, the rest is hisory...
Actually I got the story from Punky himself. I used to jam with his younger brother Timmy Meadows who was in a band called Duece back in the day.. They lived in Wheaton,Maryland.
angel were tremendous. Founded by Kiss's Gene Simmons, they were a much better band although played different type of music. should have been huge and would have been if they had arrived maybe 5 years later.
This may be nit picking and it certainly is trivial but Gene Simmons discovered Angel he was not their founder. He viewed them as the anti-Kiss. He also tried to recruit Punky Meadows to replace Ace Frehley when he left but Punky turned him down.
This band NEVER got the accolades it deserved! Punky was definitely an influence on my guitar playing style. Super complex? No, but his style is a blending of metal, glam & bubblegum.. No one else like him!
I always liked that tune. I think I was the only person in western Canada that bought that album. lol. I still have the vinyl and bought it on CD a few years ago.
