also most of the time the defenders and/or attackers will burn there dead bodies so desiease and infection would not be a HUGE problem ALSO alot of attackers would just bring catapults and bombard the castle for a week or so only problem with that it makes ur soldiers tired by lifting those boulders so

no thats not true most castles would have there gates on the point on a acute angle they would put SOME troops with in the acute angle so the frotn line of soldiers would line with with the rest of the wall if u watch TROY u will no what im talking about how they line there front line of soldiers in line iwth the wall while putting there archers on the wall and saving what ever men incase those die but however 90% of seiges lasted up to a year so yes starving defenders out is a option

If the king had an ounce of military knowledge he would have kept his troops in the castle. The attacking force would have had to assault it and in doing so suffer massive amounts of casualties. Judging by the attacking army size, they wouldn't have been able to do so. There would have been a prolonged siege to starve the defenders out, which in all likelihood would have resulted in the attacking army suffering from disease and long supply lines. Sallying forth is a last resort. Good try tho.

@brutalmosh25 "The best defense is offense" does not apply here, after the assaulting infantry defeated the king's infantry, the cavalry were left to deal with them , assuming the fact that lances are awesome, the cavalry was mostly defeated. The king obviously did not think first, look at the size and stregnth of that army, of course, the most obvious plan would be to pressure them with archers at the castle, and having the cavalry in the castle, he will leave some infantry near the archers.
