This song is also in my country Iceland as a tribute to Iceland , also in UK as their national anthem and from this I see that it is also used in norway. Of course with different lyrics in each country.
@Cromag3 hvorfor vi bruker den samme melodien som England når kongen representeres: dette var en av de melodiene som stod dronning maud nært, og hun var jo fra england, og da brakte hun den med seg til norge, oversatte den og innførte den :)
Norway is a nation of cowards which refuses to honor its NATO agreement to send soldiers to Afghanistan to help its NATO ally USA. I would be ashamed to be a Norwegian.
Unnskyld hvis jeg virker dum, men denna har jeg aldri hørt :P kommer den bare før nyttårstalen? (hvis den gjør det er det ikke rart jeg ikke har hørt den xD)
Norway only addopted the tune in about 1905, following the accesion to the Norwegian throne by Charles/Carl of Denmark or as he became King Haakon VII. Following the Storthing's decision to end Norway's Union with Sweden. Set to slightly different words form that of the UK one. First performed at Trondheim Cathedral, during Haakons' coronation, used as the coronation Anthem, and laterly adopted as the Royal Anthem of Norway.
The tune, itself originates in England, and later used in France. Similar lyrics where in common use though in France, before England. As where variation of the lyrics set to different tunes accross Europe, before many adopted, the formalised version of the anthem form the 1760's. The one still used by Britain today.
Nevertheless the French often traditonally used a different tune.
It was used throughout Europe. Al the German states for example used the tune (thats why Liechtenstein still uses it with Oben Am Jungen Rhein). It is one of the most common melodies in whole Europe.
Thanks so much! I've never seen these words, not to mention a translation. The Germans replaced this anthem with the then Austrian imperial anthem (with new words Deutscland über alles) during the Great War, if I have got it right?
Not exactly. The Song of the Germans ("Deutschland über alles") became national anthem in 1922. Before that, the German Reich had no official national anthem but only an official Emperor's anthem (as mentioned above) and an unofficial anthem ("The Watch at the Rhine").
o lord our god arise scatter her enemy and make them fall. counfound their politics frustrate their knavish trick. on thee our hopes we fix. god save us all
God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen.
Thieving bastards!!!!

We had it first, n00b
notanadikt666 3 years ago
It was the franch king in 1645, it was sung to first, then the english king/queen in the 1900 ct.
Then it was "given" to the danish and norwegian king in the end of the 1900 ct. and whene Norway did get ther king in 1905 it was Norwegian.
So needer the English or the Norwegians had it first.

And it was the 'Anthem' of the Germans in the 19th and 20th century.

In Norwegian the song goes a bit like this:
God bless our King (well)
bless him with power and courage
bless his home and castle
shine upon him (by your spirit)
bind with your strong hand
holy bonds of allegiance
between people and King

English translation:
Hail to thee in victory's crown,
Ruler of the fatherland,
Hail to thee, Emperor!
Feel in the throne's glow
The high ecstasy in full
To be darling of thy people!
Hail to thee, Emperor!

without bothering to fully correct; King, not emperor.. emperor would be "keiser" in norwegian.. :)
Totto87 3 years ago
The German Emperor's anthem used the same melody:
Heil, dir, im Siegerkranz
Herrscher des Vaterlands,
Heil, Kaiser, dir!
Fühl in des Thrones Glanz
Die hohe Wonne ganz
Liebling des Volks zu sein,
Heil, Kaiser, dir!
