Perhaps the (apparently) simple symphony? Based on tunes derived from early boyhood composing efforts, I believe -- the tight simple elegance is almost baroque; redolent of an England, and an English style, which are both now passing away.
Bleah.. I love this entire piece but my HS orchestra classmates are finding it a bit less simple than they may have expected. And we have a concert next monday. wheeee
played the full symphony in a concert yesterday, not very "simple," but very fun to play. our conductor told us the composer dedicated it to his viola teacher =)
Simple in meaning that it was written in the simple meaning of compostion of this piece, he wrote it in college for composing and made this for well.. showing the basic or simple parts of composition.
I heard from my teacher its because this whole symphonies' melodies are melodies that he made up when he's a little little kid, so he called it "simple" XD
@thereez93 Simple has a different meaning to Britten. Simple in this case means that he wrote it when he was young. I think he was 9 or 10 when he wrote this. So simple means not immature but not yet developed?
@thereez93 Because he is funny. He has all kinds of funny things in it, like when it seems like the violas should get louder in one point they actually get softer :)
im luvin it!!!

The cello part isn't that hard, It's actually really fun if you have other people who know what they're doing.

He called it simple because he wrote it when he was 9... or around that age. That's what my orchestra director told us.

It's called simple because there aren't any woodwinds or brass. And it is actually quite simple but I guess that is just my opinion :-)

I love this song to death, playing it right now for Chamber.
but it's not SIMPLE whatsoever. So difficult, especially since we're taking it like.. 3OO% undertempo. X-x
even Violin 2, ughhh.

I loved playing this movement along with the others in camp. What I found as a problem was that we would rush alot. But we got it down =).
