Porsche and BMW are not really comparable. BMW is the king of sport sedans and sports coupes (1M,M3,M5,M6,3 series, 2002tii.....). Porsche is the king of german supercars and roadsters (911, 911 turbo, Cayman R, 356 carrera....). Don't fight your bavarian brothers Porsche fans, Don't fight your friends from stuttgart BMW fans. Wow, amazing how people have to make a big deal over BMW taking a shot at Porsche. The German auto makers do this all the time in almost every ad they make. Yes, the old 2002 is no match for a Porsche, but let's not forget that these brands literally race each other on the circuits.
Porsche would never compare with anything but itself, they always are true to themselves (and hopefully stay that way).
Having said that, both are great cars, we drive 2 BMWs and 1 Porsche and all three of them have been always VERY reliable. Now, when it comes to investments, I got to admit that Porsche's keep their value better, especially if you look into the 993s, the last air-cooled 911s, esp. for turbos you still pay easily $80k for a 14 year old car.
Comparing porche and BMW is like comparing apple and oranges. If cant owe prosche you will buy a BMW. If you can afford to buy porsche you do not buy a porche because it is boring. You buy Ferrari, lamborghini or masarati. Only interesting Porsches were made in 40s

This Ad means only that an old car is an graet investment, as for example if there is an 911 from the seventies it would be the same thing ifther were an new M3 in the garage compared to an old 911. @lockyjose I've Owned an 325i, an M3 convertible, M Coupe, and two Porsche 911s. BMWs are great and I love them, but my current supercharged 911 Carrera 4 makes my old M3 appear to be a toy. It's not a contest, mostly because Porsche is simply on another level of ecstasy.
I have nothing against BMW, but it just doesnt make sense to take an old BMW while having the ability to take a 996 turbo. Unless of course, you're going to an unpleasant neighbourhood :D
I was sitting in traffic and saw little kids pointing at my 911. There were a lot of BMWs going by but they were in awe with the 911. BMWs are a dime a dozen. There is no substitute.
I agree British engineers are great but they always make something great but with a flaw.
When the Germans and British work together great thing happens. I.e the Mclaren Mercedes SLR and ever since Aston Martin had a German boss, there car actually work and don't break down every 20 yards like the old DB7,6 & 5. like when u think about it, in a different perspective look at the retaining values you will end up saving money think of it like this, buying a Fully loaded 09 Ford Explorer for ex. 30000 or a Mini Cooper S for ex. 30000 that mini in 3years will be worth 25000 while the explorer u will be lucky if u can sell it 15000, all depends on wat u buy like the M5 have some incredible retaining value and the porsche is truely and investment buy for 90000 sell it for 80000 in 3 years keeps 2/3+ value
nothing is going to be worth more in 10 years... the classic cutoff is 30 or 40. When a car becomes 30, the car's value increases

Any M class for BMW and any traditional Porsche will be worth more in 30 years. Especially if it is a convertible

And BTW Porsche have absolutely nothing comparable with 2002tii in class and/or market placing :)

@jorgetellezperez jorge.. dude i had a e39 525d from 2002 for 4 years.. and recently i bought a porsche cayman.. since i left the bmw in my home country.. u have no idea how much i miss it.. you wrote this comment.. but.. i am sure it's not from your personal experience.. i agree that porsche is superior.. but it's not always about performance.. @lockyjose I've Owned an 325i, an M3 convertible, M Coupe, and two Porsche 911s. BMWs are great and I love them, but my current supercharged 911 Carrera 4 makes my old M3 appear to be a toy. It's not a contest, mostly because Porsche is simply on another level of ecstasy.

I have nothing against BMW, but it just doesnt make sense to take an old BMW while having the ability to take a 996 turbo. Unless of course, you're going to an unpleasant neighbourhood :D

I was sitting in traffic and saw little kids pointing at my 911. There were a lot of BMWs going by but they were in awe with the 911. BMWs are a dime a dozen. There is no substitute.

I agree British engineers are great but they always make something great but with a flaw.
When the Germans and British work together great thing happens. I.e the Mclaren Mercedes SLR and ever since Aston Martin had a German boss, there car actually work and don't break down every 20 yards like the old DB7,6 & 5. Porsche on the other hand, does everything by them self and does it brilliantly :)

I lost my ass on the 911 I sold. Had a BMW M5 When i sold that I bent over and they did the rest. Cars, unless something they don't make anymore, that very few were made are a horrible investment. But I'd much rather have a porsche than a BMW.

like when u think about it, in a different perspective look at the retaining values you will end up saving money think of it like this, buying a Fully loaded 09 Ford Explorer for ex. 30000 or a Mini Cooper S for ex. 30000 that mini in 3years will be worth 25000 while the explorer u will be lucky if u can sell it 15000, all depends on wat u buy like the M5 have some incredible retaining value and the porsche is truely and investment buy for 90000 sell it for 80000 in 3 years keeps 2/3+ value

nothing is going to be worth more in 10 years... the classic cutoff is 30 or 40. When a car becomes 30, the car's value increases
And to answer your question:
Any M class for BMW and any traditional Porsche will be worth more in 30 years. Especially if it is a convertible

Agree! everytime I look at a Porsche, I feel the passion as if the car itself has a soul that wants to please you by driving it. For a BMW, yes, it drives superbly, but everytime I look at it, its just like any box of metals, got no feeling to it.

Porsche grips on to its past history and moulds it into the steel of its modern Porsches, thats why Porsches have that Passion of driving~ On the other hand, BMWs just keep pushing its technology to the limit in cost of forgoting its past. eg, do you see any resemblence of the old 6series and the current 6series?? i dont..
