il n'y a absolument aucun doute pour tous les judokas connaissant un minimum le judo, c'est ippon pour Shinohara. Mais le plus important c'est le comportement exemplaire du champion japonais depuis lors, c'est un grand exemple de ce que doit être le shin.
There is absolutely no doubt for judokas knowing a minimum the judo, it's an ippon for Shinohara . But the most important is the exemplary behaviour of the Japanese champion since then, it's a great example of what should be the shin.
Before judging about the result of this match, I am wondering how many people here know about what Uchimata sukashi is like and how this technique can be applied....

Alright. It's a mistake of the judge, but what should have happened is this:
Shinichi Shinohara tried an Uchi-Mata, it failed. David Douillet tried an Uchi-Mata as well, but Shinichi Shinohara pulled David too the ground. That has got nothing to do with scores. What should have happened is no scores for both of the players. But that's my opinion. Greetz.
Not alright. It's a mistake of the judge and IJF, and what should have happened is this:
Shinichi Shinohara executed uchimata-sukashi, it succeeded. David Douillet tried uchimata, but Shinichi Shinohara threw him to the ground. That should have been all to do with the scores. What should have happened is an Ippon call for Shinohara, and that's not my opinion but the truth by the Judo rule. Watch this: watch?v=vGkQxq-5l8w and watch?v=Zzm4vNe5Hzc
Those who are familiar with judo know the real winner was shinohara. The ref didnt have the ability to judge shinohara's high-level technique very unfortunately.
FYI, at the interview right after the fight, shinohara said he couldn't win the gold medal because he was poor at judo, without complaining of the judge. And, shinohara is recognized as a real SAMURAI.
This ref should be sacked, not giving the ippon was bad enough, but the attempted throw at 03:50, how is that possibly a yuko, he landed on his stomach. IJF is ruining judo by giving way too high scores for really bad throws
the article also clearly mentions Douillet claimed the controversy was "WHIPPED UP by Yamashita", meaning he believes Yamashita DELIBERATELY reacted fiercely to give people strong impact about the issue.
@tipo33isa "Yamashita regretted losing his supremacy. His reaction was a pity because I admire him a lot. He tried to distort a result like min:e which was never in doubt," He isn't wrong... Federation's decision was for Douillet 2 Ref vs 1 Ref Blame the refering... not Douillet. Douillet even admit he admires him a lot.... where can you blame Douillet omg?! He also denounces supremacy of japanese refering. And he is absolutely right! I don't see why you still blame on Douillet.

@xefef Douillet was saying that, although it was a CLEAR win to him (Douillet), he believes Yamashita was DELIBERATELY trying to change the whole story because he (Yamashita) wanted to retain the supremacy (wanted to remain as one of the judokas with the biggest number of olympic/world championship titles),
and thats a pity that somebody he (Douillet) admires has done something like that.
and obviously it was NEVER a clear victory to him as you said, and Shinohara shouldve won it.
@xefef and he even said "You have to take seriously the Japanese stranglehold on world refereeing because it's beginning to really take hold", which means he was basically warning people because the Japanese complete control over world refereeing was becoming very strong, IN HIS opinion…..
stick with what you know in future, mate…
its not a very good idea for you to post comments in english, unless its for something fairly straightforward…
It was said that Yamashita whom Shinohara had been supervising at this time protested when media of Japan went to the judo society in France to cover because of becoming four successive victories of the world judo and two Olympics gold medals exceeding Douillet of four successive victories of the world judo and one Olympics gold medal of Yamashita.

BTW. Cut out of the fight this action,ok.then watch the match:whad did shinohara(i adore him!) shown?Who would have won???DUILLET fair and square.sorry.
Yopu have to learn the difference between dDELIBERATE ACTION and ACCIDENT.
@halfback913 that does not make any sense. If you look at the video it is obvious. Plus if there was no misjudgement there, you should assume that the match would have been much different.
No doubt, there was wrong decision this time. But if you recognize the japanese coach, not Yamashita, but Saito. Once Grigorij Verichev(RIP) threw him for Ippon by uranage. But the desision was yuko for Saito. It was rather brutal and unfair. But nobody could do something.
What I can see is that....Douillet attempted a Uchi mata and failed by being countered with a Uchi Mata Sukashi from Shinohara....Douillet felt on his back and Shinohara on his side.
It was clearly a great misjudgment and Douillet took that Gold home with shame.
To be a titan in Judo, you need mind, technique and body, and the mind always come first. Douillet knows he lost the match, and after watching the match in slow motion, many French judoka must know it, too.
But still he abused Yamashita for lodging a formal complaint, and many French people supported that.
Now Japanese, including myself love just about everything about France, but from this match on, sadly, that excludes the French judo.
@hayek218 Look... I agree with you... The referee made a mistake and Douillet should have lost. Now if you don't count this accident. David Douillet is: 4 Times World Champion. Olympic champion once. Europe champion. Excuse me but he is a titan. Only 3 other judoka won 4 WOrld champion title in history. David douillet is a TITAN!!!! The argument is over ;)
@xefef A couple days ago, Asashoryu, one of the strongest sumo champions in history was fired in Japan. Why? Because he thought if he is strong, he can act like a king. But to that, the Sumo Association said you need a right mind to be the Yokozuna (highest rank in sumo). Asashoryu was repeated warned, but he did not understand it until his last day.
Douillet may be one of the strongest, but never a titan in Judo. If you do not understand it, you can learn why in Japan. They would welcome you.
Ok there is no link with Douillet here... Both Shinoara and Douillet weren't 100% sure of what happened in less than a half of a second.
Now if you think that this is enough to blame the whole French Judo. I don't think that is really wise. Look in the last 15 years, 6 times Riner and Douillet were champion of the world. Keep this in mind before spitting on french judo.
Before we could see the photos of this. No one could have tell who was this point for... really that was so close.... You CAN'T blame David Douillet for this!!! I feel sorry for shinoara... but this is the game of life you know. Douillet won all the titles. He co-holds the world champion title. And he isn't a titan of judo?
So what ? to be a titan of judo ... people have to be japanese?
No i personally agree with you that there was a misjudgement of the referees. But i can't accept that you generalize this to discreminate french Judo.
@xefef Mate, its not about how many titles and medals youve won. First, judo is about MIND. Having said that, Douillet cannot possibly be considered a great judo-ka, or a TITAN as you seem to love the phrase.
He mustve known hed been defeated.
Yet he felt great.
And then, on top of that, he even accused the opponents coaches for making a complaint.
Douillet is unbelievably far from a proper judo-ka.
But, i heard now hes a politician?
Probably the new job suits his personality much better lol
@tipo33isa Yep he's politician. I disagree with his political views but i guess you don't give a mind. Well if you think so, it's good for you.
Thus I wonder what you think about Teddy Riner if you don't like Douillet's mind... lol! However Riner has already as much Titles than the best judokas ever ^^
@xefef hows riner related to this conversation?? if youre talkin about the recent match where he lost, i think he shoulda accepted the judgement, cos it wasnt that strange or surprising.
but still its off the topic cos imao riner honestly felt hed won, and accused the judgement, which is to a certain extent understandable.
whereas douillet knew the judge was wrong (as i suspect), yet he accused shinoharas coaches for making complaints (made not to him, but to the ijf)!
@tipo33isa David Douillet : French Judoka 4 world champion's title Teddy Riner : French Judoka 4 world champion's title
Both are always criticized about their behaviour.... Riner much more than Douillet.
Don't you see any relation? lol
However... I agree Douillet shouldn't have win. But what I find sad is that 95% of the people prefer to criticize Douillet. Than criticizing the refering...
@xefef And by the way the referee mistake isn't so clear at all in real time. Of course it's 100% clear on all the picture by picture videos we can see on youtube.
However on these videos we see Douillet hitting the floor first on 2 picture. (Standard rate 24fps => 2pictures @ 24 fps = 80ms => Human quantum of visual analysis is about 100ms) I don't think that both Shinohara, Douillet, and the referees were sure about what happened.
@xefef lol i know youd say that.. everybody knows they have similarities, but i wasnt saying the 2 fighters are unrelated to each other. I was saying its off the topic to bring up riner in this discussion (hope youve got sufficient english skill and intelligence to see the difference...) did you think id be happy to talk about every single judo fighter who have something in common with douillet?
im not at all interested what passport each player has got, so theyre not hugely related to me anyway
@xefef to your latest post, there you go, probably thats why 95% of the people prefer to criticise douillet!lol not because "Humand kind is stupid".
and fair enough, lets assume douillet (nor shinohara) didnt know what happened. but then he shouldve watched the video after the match and done something else, eg AT LEAST keeping silent instead of accusing complaints made!!!
and its that attitude of his thats irritated so many people including me.
@tipo33isa One understood that a decision of a referee is irrevocable the other one didn't. Life is Life ; ) And it's strange... I can't find any videos or interviews showing Douillet accusating complaints. Can you share me some please ?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you all dont know shit about judo!!!! 1st Douillet throw an UchiMata so if someone score its him, Shinohara didn't do anything on this move so he cant score anything!! and yes the japanesee fall on his side so its a yuko!!
I dont like douillet Bcause his fights were so boring, rarely by ippon but he won this fight without a doubt
I'm almost as upset with this referee at how he was giving them about 3 seconds for newaza.... and this was BEFORE the ridiculous IJF changes last year..
The French are the worst in the world for newaza; you know it and I know it. It is why the ref did not let it happen. Japanese almost always never lose on the ground. That is a serious part of training here in Japan. Most teams have a, "never lose to anyone on the ground" attitude about newaza. I hate the IJF too, but trying to be on the international circuit it is the only way.
@DragonOne1 Actually I think I can comfortably say GBR are a lot worse at newaza than the French...seeing as i am English! I'd like to amend your "Japanese almost never lose on the ground" to "Japanese almost never lose at all". Of all the traning I have been invovled in, Japanese traning is by a long way the best, it's easy to see why they have the ebst juoka in the world!
I am a Canadian; I train in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan as a apart of my Olympic Effort. The Powerhouse of Japanese Judo; I have been training in Judo since I was 9 and I have had many tournaments in my life. I must say I have never seen a more poorly judged Judo Shiai in my life. This ref should be skinned and left in the sun to rot at be picked at by the Birds. If there is anyone here who seriously thinks Douillet won, you are just as dumb as he is.
This was clearly Uchimata-Tsukiashi; by the master of this technique himself, I have met with Shinohara since being here in Japan. It was apart of a Judo Demonstration, I sat and I asked him about it, and to this day he still thinks such is unforgivable. However, the Japanese people have honor, he accepted it because we judoka understand the honor code. To me David Douillet is not a true judoka.
Slight mistake in my Japanese; it is Uchimata-sukashi. Continue the hating on the IJF because they are a bunch bread making, wine tasting, tossers. Snail eating puffs.
for sur, but you the great "DragonOne1" from Fukuoka Prefecture you are surely the most boastful.
David Douillet won 2 olympic gold medals and 4 world championships but mister DragonOne1 knows so much things about judo. (Mister DragonOne1 met Shinohara so, we must absolutely listen to him, he's got the power).
Listen, reject. I do not have anymore time to waste on punks like you who know absolutely nothing about this art. We can argue about this forever and it will change nothing. We who know Judo, know in our hearts who the real winner is; Just for your stupidity, I hope weekend my upcoming tournament you watch. My first opponent is French and I am going to choke him out in newaza as pay back. I hate the French more than anything after this happened. I make it a person plight to lose to no Frenchies!
@DragonOne1 You talk about the art of Judo. And show so much DISRESPECT. You make no sense. Referees make an error... do not generalize that to David Douillet... He was the best and won everything.
worst ever decision in judo history at Olympics. Shinohara was always a winner.. great yamashita n saito's helpless protest without effecting refereeing commission.
Actually both of them were great. Shinokara countered Douillet's uchimata with uchimatasukashi while Douillet saved his fall against Shinokara's uchimatasukashi.
Shinohara DID have control of his opponent at the beginning and during that uchimatasukashi. He kept his own back off the mat. It is Douillet who became upside down. He must be an idiot to fall on his back if he had any control on his body.
I dont know where your learning your judo from, but it is clear that one thing you have not learnt is uchimatasukashi.
Is this a fair comment? Do you know all the history of judo? Your comment is just as convincing as this referee's judgement. I can see you BELIEVE it was a great victory. But you must be one of those wrestling players with judo-gi on, who do not have respect for judo techniques and thus cannot see the sharpness and perfection of one of Shinohara's special waza, uchimatasukasi. Yes, you just do no have an eye ready for that.
If you really think that is wired, then you should not call yourself "a judoka," but instead "a judo player." But then again, maybe you do not understand the difference between the two, either...
No, I meant that it was weird that he said that. I thought that most of the japanese where very proud. I know the difference between the two of them. Great judokas the two of them.
There is some mistranslation here. He said, "Yowai kara maketa. Sore dake desu," which means "I lost the match because I am weak. That's all there is to it." He did not say he is weaker than Douillet.
One can only guess what he really thought, but I guess he must have thought it is up to his coach to make any complaints, and as a player, once out of the tatami, he has to accept the decision. At the same time it must be his aesthetic principle to do so as a judoka to be isagiyoi.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Douillet is the one who went for the throw, if you look closely Shinohara didn't do shit to counter the attack. i agree with the judges Douillet got his points fair.
Tough call. Douillet initiates the action, does the throw, and there is no counter. Then Douillet hits the tatami with his back. TAEKWON21 is very right. Douillet ipponed himself, but that's not ippon then. It could have gone either way. The "shame on Douillet" comment is idiotic. Douillet did nothing wrong. The more I watch this video, the more I think that the ref should have not called any point at all. That's my two cents...
Shinohara is an honery samurai. The first thing he said when he was asked for his opinion on the reason for the loss immediately after the match by a Japanese TV interviewee was "I lost the match because I am weak. There is really nothing more to this." And, he never commented on the judge since.
The technique of Uchi-mata-sukashi is dodging Uke's Uchi-mata to make him off balance, then, throw him in that direction in a split second by the twisting of hands.
That did not happen here. Shinohara did not dodge, but rather, was caught up in an ouchi-gari turned uchi-mata.
The bottom line is when you were thrown, YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART you were thrown~! When its IPPON YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART you have been taken IPPON. You can FAKE cerebration, but you can not live with your self for the rest of your life. I would NOT have accepted the WIN, if I were FRA.

no the call was reviewed and it should have been a no score. if the referee had called a no score Douillet would have won gold anyway
halfback913 2 years ago
@halfback913 that does not make any sense. If you look at the video it is obvious. Plus if there was no misjudgement there, you should assume that the match would have been much different.

I think Douillet was great "Judo Player" but never deserve "Judoka".
Proudful Judoka would admit misjudgement and his loss, but Douillet didn't.

SlugDropsonheads 2 years ago
What I can see is that....Douillet attempted a Uchi mata and failed by being countered with a Uchi Mata Sukashi from Shinohara....Douillet felt on his back and Shinohara on his side.
It was clearly a great misjudgment and Douillet took that Gold home with shame.
antulio 2 years ago 3
Douillet is shameless.
Is this French style?
I am so disapointed at them.
They must learn sportmanship at first.
3gatsunolion 2 years ago
@3gatsunolion David Douillet is a titan of Judo. You can't blame him for the error of 3 referees. And you can't compare only this act to french style.
Look at Teddy Riner. This is French Style.... World champions!!!! ; )
xefef 2 years ago
No, you are missing the whole point.
To be a titan in Judo, you need mind, technique and body, and the mind always come first. Douillet knows he lost the match, and after watching the match in slow motion, many French judoka must know it, too.
But still he abused Yamashita for lodging a formal complaint, and many French people supported that.
Now Japanese, including myself love just about everything about France, but from this match on, sadly, that excludes the French judo.
hayek218 2 years ago
@hayek218 Look... I agree with you... The referee made a mistake and Douillet should have lost. Now if you don't count this accident. David Douillet is: 4 Times World Champion. Olympic champion once. Europe champion. Excuse me but he is a titan. Only 3 other judoka won 4 WOrld champion title in history. David douillet is a TITAN!!!! The argument is over ;)
xefef 2 years ago
@xefef A couple days ago, Asashoryu, one of the strongest sumo champions in history was fired in Japan. Why? Because he thought if he is strong, he can act like a king. But to that, the Sumo Association said you need a right mind to be the Yokozuna (highest rank in sumo). Asashoryu was repeated warned, but he did not understand it until his last day.
Douillet may be one of the strongest, but never a titan in Judo. If you do not understand it, you can learn why in Japan. They would welcome you.
hayek218 2 years ago
Ok there is no link with Douillet here... Both Shinoara and Douillet weren't 100% sure of what happened in less than a half of a second.
Now if you think that this is enough to blame the whole French Judo. I don't think that is really wise. Look in the last 15 years, 6 times Riner and Douillet were champion of the world. Keep this in mind before spitting on french judo.
You aren't really respectful there.
xefef 2 years ago
Before we could see the photos of this. No one could have tell who was this point for... really that was so close.... You CAN'T blame David Douillet for this!!! I feel sorry for shinoara... but this is the game of life you know. Douillet won all the titles. He co-holds the world champion title. And he isn't a titan of judo?
So what ? to be a titan of judo ... people have to be japanese?
xefef 2 years ago
I don't know if you realize this. But it is obvious that we have a very little common ground to make sensible arguments about this.
So, I sign off.
No offense.
hayek218 2 years ago
No i personally agree with you that there was a misjudgement of the referees. But i can't accept that you generalize this to discreminate french Judo.
xefef 2 years ago
@xefef Mate, its not about how many titles and medals youve won. First, judo is about MIND. Having said that, Douillet cannot possibly be considered a great judo-ka, or a TITAN as you seem to love the phrase.
He mustve known hed been defeated.
Yet he felt great.
And then, on top of that, he even accused the opponents coaches for making a complaint.
Douillet is unbelievably far from a proper judo-ka.
But, i heard now hes a politician?
Probably the new job suits his personality much better lol
tipo33isa 1 year ago
@tipo33isa Yep he's politician. I disagree with his political views but i guess you don't give a mind. Well if you think so, it's good for you.
Thus I wonder what you think about Teddy Riner if you don't like Douillet's mind... lol! However Riner has already as much Titles than the best judokas ever ^^
xefef 1 year ago
@xefef hows riner related to this conversation?? if youre talkin about the recent match where he lost, i think he shoulda accepted the judgement, cos it wasnt that strange or surprising.
but still its off the topic cos imao riner honestly felt hed won, and accused the judgement, which is to a certain extent understandable.
whereas douillet knew the judge was wrong (as i suspect), yet he accused shinoharas coaches for making complaints (made not to him, but to the ijf)!
tipo33isa 1 year ago
@tipo33isa David Douillet : French Judoka 4 world champion's title Teddy Riner : French Judoka 4 world champion's title
Both are always criticized about their behaviour.... Riner much more than Douillet.
Don't you see any relation? lol
However... I agree Douillet shouldn't have win. But what I find sad is that 95% of the people prefer to criticize Douillet. Than criticizing the refering...
Humand kind is stupid.
xefef 1 year ago
@xefef And by the way the referee mistake isn't so clear at all in real time. Of course it's 100% clear on all the picture by picture videos we can see on youtube.
However on these videos we see Douillet hitting the floor first on 2 picture. (Standard rate 24fps => 2pictures @ 24 fps = 80ms => Human quantum of visual analysis is about 100ms) I don't think that both Shinohara, Douillet, and the referees were sure about what happened.
xefef 1 year ago
@xefef lol i know youd say that.. everybody knows they have similarities, but i wasnt saying the 2 fighters are unrelated to each other. I was saying its off the topic to bring up riner in this discussion (hope youve got sufficient english skill and intelligence to see the difference...) did you think id be happy to talk about every single judo fighter who have something in common with douillet?
im not at all interested what passport each player has got, so theyre not hugely related to me anyway
tipo33isa 1 year ago
@xefef to your latest post, there you go, probably thats why 95% of the people prefer to criticise douillet!lol not because "Humand kind is stupid".
and fair enough, lets assume douillet (nor shinohara) didnt know what happened. but then he shouldve watched the video after the match and done something else, eg AT LEAST keeping silent instead of accusing complaints made!!!
and its that attitude of his thats irritated so many people including me.
now im out of it, its too childish
tipo33isa 1 year ago
@tipo33isa One understood that a decision of a referee is irrevocable the other one didn't. Life is Life ; ) And it's strange... I can't find any videos or interviews showing Douillet accusating complaints. Can you share me some please ?
xefef 1 year ago
@xefef ok, i said i was out of this in the last one, but this would really be the final one...
since it happened about 10 years ago, its difficult to find an article (as theyre mostly deleated), unless you go to library or something.
but still ive found one for ya.
According to that, he thinks yamashita made complaints cos he didnt want to lose supremacy over him,
and he was trying to "distort a result like mine which was never in doubt".
Speechless...

I'm almost as upset with this referee at how he was giving them about 3 seconds for newaza.... and this was BEFORE the ridiculous IJF changes last year..
Grove2000 2 years ago
The French are the worst in the world for newaza; you know it and I know it. It is why the ref did not let it happen. Japanese almost always never lose on the ground. That is a serious part of training here in Japan. Most teams have a, "never lose to anyone on the ground" attitude about newaza. I hate the IJF too, but trying to be on the international circuit it is the only way.
DragonOne1 2 years ago

DragonOne1 2 years ago 14
This was clearly Uchimata-Tsukiashi; by the master of this technique himself, I have met with Shinohara since being here in Japan. It was apart of a Judo Demonstration, I sat and I asked him about it, and to this day he still thinks such is unforgivable. However, the Japanese people have honor, he accepted it because we judoka understand the honor code. To me David Douillet is not a true judoka.
DragonOne1 2 years ago 10
Slight mistake in my Japanese; it is Uchimata-sukashi. Continue the hating on the IJF because they are a bunch bread making, wine tasting, tossers. Snail eating puffs.

for sur, but you the great "DragonOne1" from Fukuoka Prefecture you are surely the most boastful.
David Douillet won 2 olympic gold medals and 4 world championships but mister DragonOne1 knows so much things about judo. (Mister DragonOne1 met Shinohara so, we must absolutely listen to him, he's got the power).
zabvin 2 years ago
Listen, reject. I do not have anymore time to waste on punks like you who know absolutely nothing about this art. We can argue about this forever and it will change nothing. We who know Judo, know in our hearts who the real winner is; Just for your stupidity, I hope weekend my upcoming tournament you watch. My first opponent is French and I am going to choke him out in newaza as pay back. I hate the French more than anything after this happened. I make it a person plight to lose to no Frenchies!

Powerhouse76 2 years ago 3
Did Shinohara said that for real?...wierd...
judoka1976 2 years ago
If you really think that is wired, then you should not call yourself "a judoka," but instead "a judo player." But then again, maybe you do not understand the difference between the two, either...
tmme1234 2 years ago
No, I meant that it was weird that he said that. I thought that most of the japanese where very proud. I know the difference between the two of them. Great judokas the two of them.
judoka1976 2 years ago
OK.

There is really nothing more to this." And, he never commented on the judge since.
tmme1234 2 years ago 13
The technique of Uchi-mata-sukashi is dodging Uke's Uchi-mata to make him off balance, then, throw him in that direction in a split second by the twisting of hands.
That did not happen here. Shinohara did not dodge, but rather, was caught up in an ouchi-gari turned uchi-mata.

Mais on voit aussi que le seul arbitre qui met ippon est celui qui est a côté et qui a bien vu l'action, les autres n'ont pu voir que la chute du japonais... ça explique aussi l'erreur je pense.
Tahitian1S1 2 years ago
