  • how the fuck do u run while pointing your gun??

  • what the hell is european extreme?

  • @JamesP5871

    To sum up quickly :

    -One/Two Hits and you die

    -Game over when caught

-Your fingers will suffer during the Solidus Torture ^^

  • heard the 360 version controls suck for HD collection since it didnt have pressure sensitive analog?

    is it really that bad?

  • @HankFreakingHill It's not that bad. Definitely go PS3 if you have the option but you can make do with the 360. You just have to get more crafty with the controls like hitting the right trigger to holster your weapon instead of easing off the button.

  • can u use the radar

  • this is not worth 80 gamerscore but since its MGS ill do it

  • since you're so good i have to ask, is there a trick to finishing VR mission snake (mgs1) variety level 1?

    have you finished it?

i remember beating it on the ps2 but i just cant beat it on 360, the sensitivity for the scope is insane i just cant get passed 15 guards before getting overrun.

  • @EDDIEinWAR I don't know of any tricks (been a long time since I even wanted to play that mission again...), sorry. I'm sure the order you choose would play a big part in it, but it's not like to can take out lines of them like in the earlier difficulties...

  • I can't move with my weapon up like that... WTF?

  • @klingclarry Hold the crouch button while aiming to run and shoot at the same time

  • your supposed to do european extreme and game over if caught

  • I just noticed..

Why do this guys wear tank helmets?

They are on a boat after all O_o

  • Great video!! I'll try to get all the dog tags too :)

  • if this is extreme difficulty why was olga's health so low???

  • I just finished all dog tags for tanker. I'm starting the plant now, not looking forward to battling all those metal gears on extreme! I got pissed off on normal!! Lol I hope I don't miss like ONE then have to go back. Tanker was short so I didn't care but this gah. Ha (:

  • @bobanoosh I know the feeling, for a long time I got destroyed by Extreme Rays.

Luckily Plant is easier to tag than Tanker, what with Tanker having a few guards you only get one shot at. As long as you remember to save before the points of no return (e.g. the Harrier battle) and check your tags in the viewer, it's hard not to finish with 100%.

  • @thegreatbman

Man, you should get someone to ship you the HD collection and you can start practicing.

  • @thegreatbman

What console are you getting MGS HD on? The xbox 360 controllers aren't pressure sensitive, so when you want to let go without taking off your weapon, press the left stick and you will put down your weapon.

  • @brettmiddle I'm goin back and forth between 360, buying a PS3 for HDC, and just sticking with the PS2 version. I may just take the easy way out TBH considering PS2 has the best controls.

  • @thegreatbman do you know when this game is at playstation 3 ! I mean at the shop

  • @thegreatbman olga failed with 4 hits? why your gun is so strong?

  • bro you are just too nasty

  • Woo European Extreme, Europeans RULE! including me hehehe.

  • man i miss game, fuck cod and halo

  • @LakaiBoss You miss it? Buy the MGS HD Collection. It includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. :)

The MGS2 version also includes all the vr and alternative missions.

  • watching this is like watching a fuckin action movie. good job.

  • i love how every Russian spetsnaz he held-up spoke in english. wouldnt happen in real life.

  • @ALE5000X The spetsnaz guys still have a Russian accent.

  • @fastbastard69 You think russian spetsnaz are taught to speak english though?

  • @ALE5000X Not just English, probably many other languages too.Besides, who needs to know English if a guns in your face?

  • what difficulty does it have to be to get all dog tags?

  • @jasanimans Anything except European Extreme.

  • @thegreatbman so i could get every dog tag on very easy?

  • @jasanimans You can get all VE dog tags, but each difficulty has different tags, and you need to do them all to get all tags for the Dog Tag Viewer and the rewards.

  • @thegreatbman

    can play plant with snake

    ????

  • @thegreatbman

can i play plant with snake

  • I don't get it! How on earth do you aim at Olga?! I just can't! She kills me in like two hits!

  • i have all dog tags on all levels on mgs2 ..... WOOP WOOP FOR PLAYABLE CHEATS

  • Can the dog tags have different names and how many do you have to collect

  • 6:40 is one bit of music I haven't managed to find on YouTube. I mean, according to a YouTube vid that covered "The Document Of MGS2", there was a "Detection" theme, as well as the Caution, Alert, and Evasion themes. Unless I'm wrong.

  • @SaviourV What you hear in this video is... pretty much all there is to Tanker detection. It's only a 12 second loop.

It's not in any soundtrack, and I do have DoMGS2, so I duno if you really want it I could up a minute or two.

  • @thegreatbman Sure, I'd like that. I figure there's lots of missing music bits in the Metal Gear Solid series after the very first one. There's the Evasion themes from Metal Gear Solid 4, for instance, that didn't end up on the official soundtracks, I hear.

  • Every time I try that at 2:43 the camera sees me :/

  • @louie540x Gotta be Hard/Ex/EuEx.

  • Comment removed

  • wtf is european extreme?

  • @YJA18S

Harder then Extreme. It's only on the Substance version.

  • @louie540x oh ok thank you

  • @louie540x i have SOL and that has EuEx on it

  • @caliburedge2411 It's on the European versions of SoL, hence the name. It's basically Extreme with no dog tags, higher damage taken, lower damage dealt, and guards can see and hear you from a further distance.

Probably the most obvious difference about EuEx is that Olga's pistol shots do a full life bar of damage. Apart from Ray's stomp I believe it's the only one hit KO attack in the game.

  • @caliburedge2411

Either you must have the substance version or you probably have something other than the North American version.

  • i didnt realize a simple shot was enough to scare the "tough guys". i used to shoot them in the leg to give up their dogtag lol

  • the hardest i found was the "Hold no" areas, because i found myself trying hold up everyone in the room, but i guess its only the ones on the sides..

  • Whats the difference between Extreme and European Extreme?

  • whats 1'st time???

  • @47474747z I don't know of anyone else that speedruns dog tags, so this is the fastest legit run I know of. I've done better runs (as in faster gameplay) since then, but always playing from a hard drive (quicker loading times), so they weren't legit.

  • I miss this game.

  • @JmanBan3 SO DO I but they will remaked this at ps3 at shop !

  • hey do the same guards drop the tags in each difficulty?

  • How do you change so fast from pistol like fast R2 + left?

  • @low1tjeh If you mean at 4:45, it's just a well-timed R2 + direction. All the other weapon changes are R2 taps - the Quick Equip setting in Options has been changed to Previous, meaning it changes to the last-equipped weapon.

  • @thegreatbman yeah I actually meant that part :) Ok, thanks for the info, are you doing Plant too?

  • @low1tjeh On and off, yeah. I'm not very far in though, as there's some tough planning such as choosing when to collect tags in areas like Strut E (which you go through at least 3 times).

  • This is the how the real Solid Snake would have done it.

    Awesome man.

  • how do you holser your weapon when you have aimed please help!!!

  • how do you run and aim the gun at the same time? It would come in handy.

  • @kiss19731000 Sq+L1 to run with auto-aim. Sq+X to run without it. L1 can be held at any time, X must be held down after Sq is.

  • @thegreatbman thank you. Finally a good answer. THANKS :)

  • how do you have euro extreme on mgs2 sons of liberty but my game doesn't have euro extreme i only have it on my mgs2 substance. SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER!

  • @kiss19731000 Only the European versions of SoL (being the last to be released) have Euro Extreme, hence the name ;p

That's also why Europe and Asia has the different dog tag layouts, since their main games are a lot closer to Substance's than the US version (the first to be released) is.

  • @thegreatbman o wow i didn't know that now i do. thanks :)

  • Love this game alot played this game Day in and Day out well until my PS2 broke down.... I guess it could'nt handle snake...

  • @1209SolidSnake Nothing can handle the Snake.

  • thats some epic graphics for a 240p vid

  • are there any difference between metal gear solid 2 and metal gear solid 2 substance. i mean is the dog tags at different places? and if i play at very easy can i find all the dog tags?

  • @MakaveliWiklund The American version of the original doesn't have any in the Holds areas (7 in Extreme), but otherwise there's no difference re tags AFAIK.

All the difficulties have different tag layouts and names, except European Extreme which has none. By reloading a completed game save to go to other difficulties, you can collect enough to unlock bonus equips.

  • my gameplay at extreme with olga had more lifebar! hers was higher than mine! >_>!

  • 1:23 piquete de ojos

  • the guard when you first enter the engine room on the tanker (from the room with the raven toy) is doing my nut in! i'm trying to get his tag on hard, but he won't give it up, and when i shoot him in the arm or wherever it goes into alert mode! any idea how i can get this one?

  • @andimccormick I'm not familiar with Hard, but from a playthrough of it I did a couple weeks back I know that guard is a pain.

You could try dragging him into the locker room to maximise distance and doing it there. If that doesn't work, then you can tranq the two other guards in that part of the room then go for him.

All else fails, you'll have to pick up the USP suppressor by climbing up the mast at the top of the ship.

  • @thegreatbman Cheers for your help, just managed it by knocking him out, then getting the other two tags below and going back for his. Prob not the quickest way but I'm just going for tags for now. I don't remember there being a suppressor up there though, just the thermo goggles?

  • @andimccormick You may be right, IIRC the suppressor only appears on even playthroughs (when Snake is wearing shades).

  • Comment removed

  • @thegreatbman AAAAARRRRGGHH!!! Have you ever collected all the tags on easy? I've got all but two - one in hold 1, one in hold 3, and NOBODY has them! I've got the ones from the guys up top in holds 1 and 3, and the second one in hold 3 straight after you slide down the pole, but that's it! I've tried nearly everybody, short of going through everyone in the crowds. Any idea where I need to look? Sorry for all the questions btw, but you do appear to be some kind of guru.

  • Comment removed

  • Ignore the previous comment, I found them! Mr fecking Underpants! Right in the middle of the crowd in hold 1! And then a guy right at the front of the crowd in hold three. Had to knock out half the marines though...

  • heres a tip: if your playing tanker episode and u accedently shoot a guard to sleep and u dont want to wait for em to wake up u can use coolant spray it wakes em up faster! thumbs up if this helped

  • @isantamies2 Ain't no coolant in Tanker, my friend. Unless you're playing the demo, but that coolant _kills_ people o_O

Plant, however, you're absolutely right. It's also best to aim at the head with the coolant if you can, gets them up faster than spraying the body.

  • alsome really helped

  • to be honest i like the camera in mgs2

  • Do you know if it's possible to load game in MGS2? Besides from restarting the whole thing or dying.. And also if you can go back and get dog tags you missed? I got around 87perent in very easy and I want to go back and finish it.. Or start a new difficulty too..

  • SNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • how do you switch between your two guns instantly like that?

  • @chrisv9000 It's in the options menu, under I believe "Quick Equip". "Unequip" is the default which switches between nothing and your last equip. "Previous" is what I used in this run, which switches between your last two equips. From a speedrunning perspective, it's godlike on Tanker, but becomes a handful in Plant where you have more items to juggle on both sides.

  • @thegreatbman Ohhhh alright. thanks for the help!

  • this is not on extreme!! verry easy mode!! olga is bij 4 shots KO and the gaurds are slow. nice trying

  • @rakesh445 lol she takes that much damage because he headshots her every time

  • so do you have to get usp for some dog tags?

  • @gamers151 Indeed. There are a number of guards that won't give up their tag unless you scare them properly, either by shooting a limb, or shooting past them (as I do, since it's a little quicker). Unfortunately, that requires a weapon that's capable of killing someone, and unless you have the RGB6 or Stinger - which are so pant-wetting that just the sight of them is sufficient - you have to fire a shot from your weapon.

  • @thegreatbman Thank you very much this is a great help.

  • >_> got all ...And all i do is CQC the guards cause its fucking fuunnyyy heheh

  • Damn you're good at this. You went through it like you had already played it in expert a bunch of times.

  • Hi, I am used to playing the SOCOM and Hitman series and just bought an old metal gear solid 2 game recently so I am playing it for the first time but I find it a really frustrating game, firstly and please correct me if I'm wrong, the game has a real flaw in that R3 can not be used to pan around view while moving about, its such a bad idea, running down corridors, around buildings etc with just one fixed possition unless you press R1 in which you can no longer move around nor keep this view

  • @PangeaSpreads That's true, the R3 feature was added in MGS3.

What I'd say is use the radar as much as possible; in the Plant mission get to the radar nodes as soon as you enter an area for the first time. Otherwise, do use R1 in short bursts if you're not sure what you're running at, look around corners with L2/R2 etc.

After a while you learn the enemies' routes and likely positions and it becomes easer. It's also useful when without radar to either use the AP Sensor or listen for footsteps.

  • @thegreatbman Thanks, I'll stay with it for a while, its a real shame though because it seems a very interesting game, but as I said, without the ability to pan the view around the player or at least remain in first person view while moving, this game is seriously flawed, especially when I'm already used to great games like hitman, socom and splinter cell series where you can pan, look through keyholes, gently open doors. its nearly 10 years old though to be fair, is the next one cured of flaws?

  • @PangeaSpreads i wouldnt really call it a "flaw".

the RE series (with the exception of 4 and beyond) have used this (as an example) camera system. its not perfect, thats true, but it does add challenge in a way. you can always lean on a wall to see whats behind a corridor if ure having trouble.

MGS3-4 use the free 3rd person camera that ure after; but for MGS3 (Subsistence only) you can toggle the traditional locked camera or the free view.

  • @virtuousmission Ya look I stayed with it and now find it hard to put down, for sure its a challenge and evididently very compeling, it is what it is. That said, given the thought and detail put into this game, I would really love if at least one of the two options I mentioned ( pan camera (r3) or stick first person view (you know what i mean, while moving etc.)) was a given option to make sneeking up, entering open areas where walls are not a lean option etc much more fluid and enjoyable?

  • @PangeaSpreads Yeah. Just keep trying dude, it really is an amazing game once you get past it's flaws. (:

  • Unlocking stealth and bandanna isnt that hard. Collect all of them on v.easy, easy, normal and maybe a few on hard and you will be guaranteed these items. The same applys to the plant mission too.

  • Im trying to beat Olga on Euro Extreme. I hope this tactic works

  • wow the trick with olga is very usefull

  • dude, this is like amazing. on the ps2 i am trying to do all of the dogtags for every diffculty. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I don't understand what you're doing in the Olga fight that stops her from talking about her unit.

  • @wearethearchers In a nutshell, you have to tempt her to shoot two bursts of bullets before going to the back - I do it by leaning out so she can see me. It's a hard one to get right; a lot of the time you can get both bursts and she still doesn't turn around at the back. Once she turns you get about a second to shoot her each time, but if you miss then it's cutscene time for you.

  • @thegreatbman I see, thanks! I'll keep giving it a try.

  • Do u have the plant as well?

  • @Chuckshifty Wish I did. What I'm half working on is a full game run in 8 saves. I'm not very far though. I did, however, just play through Extreme (normally) last night to get a feel for the bosses, as I haven't played most of them on Extreme for years.

Got my butt kicked so hard by Harrier x_x

  • Are you snake?0_o

  • 8:42 fucking OWNED!!!!!

  • What happens if I put them on very easy, will not all show up?

  • @TheBigWhiteGun Each difficulty has different dog tags. To really get "all" the dog tags, you have to 100% each difficulty. You can see your progress in the "Dog Tag Viewer" from "Special" on the main menu. You have to save your game file once you complete the game/chapter, then load that file. You'll be taken to the difficulty selector and you can start collecting on a different difficulty.

  • @wearethearchers Uh.... how many dog tags do you need to get the bandanna and the stealth?

  • @TheBigWhiteGun 50 for the bandanna and I think like 76 for the stealth. Good luck!

  • @wearethearchers Oh.... I thought it was like 35, those basterds at ign said so.

  • @TheBigWhiteGun I've read different things. I read it was 80 for stealth once and I got it when I had 79. I think it's 50% of the dog tags on the tanker if that helps.

  • @wearethearchers If in doubt, just get loads of tags in all the difficulties and Bob's your uncle.

  • damn this game brings back so many memories. I was 11 and i was obsessed with this game i beat this game more then any other mgs game which is about 20 more times. this dude has played it probably 50 cuz he knows the situation so well its memorized . good stuff

  • If you put it on extreme, would more soldiers be there?

  • @TheBigWhiteGun This is Extreme >_> but it's not much difference. There's the odd extra soldier but it's mainly changing their position/patrol slightly and giving them more hp/stamina/strength/senses.

  • @thegreatbman can u tell me the secret site wen u get all dog tags? i beat the game but then i sold my ps2 so i can't find it anymore?

  • Where respect is due, I give it, and you deserve some respect for this masterpiece.

  • How do you run and get them to freeze? For mine, you have to stop tell them to freeze and then get in front of them to hold them up.

  • How do you pick up and drag people? And how do you make them shake to give you items? I make them freeze but after that nothing happens at all. HELP!!!

  • When you tell them to freeze and stand in front of them, why do you wait for them to wiggle a bit before shooting? Sorry, I've never played MGS, so what is going on there?

  • @USSZim Collecting they dog tags.

  • @thegreatbman Oh I see

  • 3:06 that was amazing

  • i love mgs2 camera thumbs up if you agree

  • dude u are super badass at this game.

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • what is the difference between sons of liberty and substance

  • @jherico281 In the US, there's a few major differences such as some of the marines getting dog tags. In Asia and Europe, it's pretty much only exploit fixes and bug fixes, due to them getting a later version of SoL.

  • You true master, you

  • whats with the t-bagging? 1:22

  • @joc95 Dry his feet so he doesn't leave wet footprints I think.

  • @Polyuncoki Normally, that'd be the case, yeah, but it's a bit more complicated.

It's a timing aid so I can get an idea of when to run into the corridor. The other reason is because in Extreme Snake catches colds very very quickly, and this is an attempt to avoid it. Doesn't generally work >_> In this run I got medicine to take care of that, which wastes a few seconds, but now I'm able to play the game engine so I never sneeze.

In Extreme, it takes ages to stop leaving footprints, so no point.

  • @thegreatbman Great strategy, really is impressive how you manage to remember to do all this in one quick run. If I could give you more credit than a thumb up and a favourite I would.

  • Muy buen video nunca descubri por mi cuenta como sacar los dog tags !!

  • To run around with your gun pointed: Hold L1 and then hold Square. Guns work with the square same way as in first person mode.

  • one of da most undarated games eva

  • so, what do you get when you collect dog tags?

  • is metal gear games free roam

  • How do u aim and run at the same time?

  • This game was so worth 3 dollars

  • ur r pro @ this game!! seen no 1 better.

  • "Freeze!"

    "hu? Ahh!"

  • Cool!! You're like a pro at MGS2!! Mad clip make more!! MGS2 rocks!!

  • How did you aim your gun and move at the same time?

  • 5:36... jajajaja buena esa!

  • Knock Olga out any faster there could ya? :P

  • That'd be nice ^^

It is actually possible though, believe it or not. If you find one of user AnonymityHope's speedruns of Tanker from... 2007 I think, he shows a method that gets a headshot before the "loop" phase, which probably saves a second or so.

I've never gotten it work myself though, might only be in the Asian version. But we discovered the basics of Olga's loop through AnonymityHope originally; he's an amazing MGS speedrunner.

Fatman, Vamp and Solidus also have loops for that matter.

  • MAN!

    you r the BOMB

  • fat people rules!

    not realy

  • you are sick

  • okay, tell me this.

theres only 26 tags on this level on expert, but i need 30 to get stealth. HOW IN THE HELL is thatpossible. im "extremely" pissed. someone help.

  • you have to load the same save each time you start a new game, this way they add up from each difficulty

  • no man!

theres 26 dog tags in the tanker in each difficulty.

once you have 20 dog tags (minimum) in very easy.

load the game that you finished and collect the dog tags in other difficulty (GO TO EXTREME ahah) im kidding (collect in medium)

you need at least 76 dog tags to stealth camouflage (tanker)

    and 120 dog tags (raiden)

    have fun :)

  • Different difficulties have different tags. Get all the tags on easy then all the tags on normal and so on.

  • @omg1836

    :3 The solution is simple.

You have to play through the other difficulties and collect the dog tags on those difficulties as well. But make surre it is on the same save file.

Also, 30 Dog Tags = Bandana

You need about 70 or 76 for Stealth Camo.

  • you need to get 4 more on another difficulty

  • whhen i try hold them up they say shoot me, then i cant get their dogtags. what do i do ?

  • Shoot the air or one arm or leg then they will be scared and give them to you

  • u shoot them wit the usp in there hand

  • No matter what I do, I can't hold up the guards like you did. I have to knock them down and wait for them to stand back up and then I can hold them up.

    Can you help me?

  • If you're running at the guard in question, it's all direction and distance. You should be pointing within say 20 degrees of their direction, and within about 1.5 metres of their position.

The "freeze" happens about 0.2 seconds after you depress Square, and only at that time. You have to be pointing in the right direction and at the right distance when this happens - you can't just get the gun out then run at a guard and hold him up.
