  • hay...that's tony levin on bass : )

  • I was born in 1991 n i adore this songgggg (;

  • Sex in my ears...

  • I love how you can hear him clap. Then, Tony's bass!

  • muito bom mesmo , chega a arrepiar , oh tempo que existiam gdes músicas .

  • Amazing

  • eine unglaubliche Jahrhunderstimme ! Immer wieder phantastisch.....

  • I want to be in Peter Gabriel's band

  • Makes me think of my children.....

  • I remember when this first came out over 20 years ago. Still just awesome.

  • I saw Bruce play in front of 100,000 people in the Ivory Coast of Africa on that 88 Amnesty tour, there was some concern on what reaction the audience would give him. That audience was the most energized, enthusiastic audience I've ever seen and i have seen over 700 concerts in 25 years. That audience was entirely Africans who had never heard of Bruce and his power, that power of music won them over. Hands in air, all smiling, all unified. Priceless

  • I had the privilege of being a photographer on both Amnesty tours in 86,88 and later shows. I felt the power of that music being onstage with all the artists that have taken part in sharing their time. In 88 NOBODY was paid on that tour and no tour like that has been attempted since. None. Nowadays with the world fighting about money it was a different time and no video, no being in the audience can match being there. Occupy Wall Street? How about occupying our souls first.

  • @MrBuzzweasel I love you..lol...well said my friend..;)

  • grossssso

  • OTIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • idiota,,se tiverem vergonha na cara nunca mais pisem os pés em nosso país

  • But wow wow wow ...what a great gathering onstage , fantastic and let that be a lesson how we are God on earth , taking care of each other , not "god" somehwere else .

  • wished the bassist would drop more "bombs" , like --->> Pow boomp bow Bomb boomp booyowyow BOOM!! ...ya know what i means ;o)

  • Anyone else noticed that back in 1986 there was a Hurricane Irene too? 7:04

  • I heard this song on the radio and ALWAYS wondered who sang it, and now I HAVE FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!! A HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • i love how people get so pissed off at the ten dislikes. Why let someone get at you like that? Chill! Great song! I love it! He messed up a little though,im sure the pressure was enormous! Thanks for the upload.

  • maravilhoso. Eterno.

  • tony levin right?

  • So you g here ... Great song gives me chills

  • This version is like looking and listening to an album on a turntable instead of a CD. Not perfect, but pure. And it captures the very best of Peter Gabriel and his band. Raw emotion, great music. Thanks for posting.

  • 8 people like beyonce

  • I'd love a studio version of this, with uber-premium audio. This is by far the best version of the song I've heard.

  • Peter look's like Niel Tennant a little here

  • Where can i find the original version

  • 7 don't like Peter !! Hey ... he's only human ... there must be unsatisfied ...

  • This is a real joy to watch!

  • Wow, so many people have missed what this video shows. There was a time, not even that long ago, where people believed. Watch the last 60 seconds of this video, the unscripted fun and passion, and show anything like it from the last 10-20 years. You can't, it's over.....humans are circling the drain now, rushing ever faster to that final....

  • I love it!

  • like

  • Um, the singer is Youssou N'Dour. He's from Senegal, and he's the biggest selling African artist of all-time.

  • Damn. did we all look that young? We believed we could do anything. Solve any problem.

  • Man, he's pretty pitchy here. Not PG at his best. Good thing hihats aren't WAY too loud in the mix too. :)

  • このライブの日はすごく寒い日でしたね。その寒さの緊迫感とガブリエルが見せる笑顔は彼のベストパフォーマンスといっていいのではないのではないでしょうか。ユッスンもすごくいいしね。

  • Good song. I just wish the sound quality was better on this video.

  • awesome

  • FUKN BEAUTIFUL

  • It's ironic to look at this charity concert today in light of the recent events in Japan. What an energizing performance by Peter and his troupe.

  • the most beautiful love song ever written!

  • Tony Levin - the best bass guitar player in the world.

  • With all that is happening in our world Peter Gabrel predicted it in his song"Red Rain."

  • Who is the performer who sings at the beginning with him? I love Peter Gabriel, beautiful on the outside and on the inside. The guy performing with him is awesome too!

  • @jellyfishstampede Youssou N'Dour is his name,peace...

  • @jellyfishstampede Believe it or not, I was at the concert promoting the "SO" album, at the Marcus Ampitheatre in Milwaukee. Peter introduced the singer you mentioned. I don't remember his name, but Peter called him the greatest singer on earth. The were direct from Africa, and that same singer and his group opened up for Peter. It was the greatest concert I've ever seen. And I've seen some great concerts.

  • @kickdrum09 hmm-saw SO here in Houston in 1987 and he didn't have the African group with him-but saw him a few years later with the Secret World tour and he had them then.In fact SO hadnt really hit yet so the arena was only half full-couldn't believe it.Then Sledgehammer hit and I was lucky to even get a ticket for Secret World.

  • @Nicar526 Yup. You're right. Sledgehammer, and the award winning video!

  • Who is the performer who sings at the beginning with him?

  • I just love his music :)))))) genius.

  • 6 people are blind and need our eyes.

  • awesome! always loved Peter Gabriel, he looks so young here!

  • that's what my hair looks like when I wake up in the morning

  • wow... things used to seem honest, back in a day. and they probably were...

  • wow his voice sounds great, even live!

Not too many big stars will let someone take center stage like he does.

That guy with the really high voice is great too!!

  • God hes so young!

  • God I love the 80's version of PG :) How freaking cute is he?

  • this song is gorgeous but that dancing is hilarious...awkward!!

  • I just love those goofy dances they start doing when Peter finishes the intro!!

  • Witness one of the many examples of the unifying, healing, barrier-breaking power of music - thank you, Peter Gabriel, for a song that will resonate in me for as long as I live!!

  • this is one of my favorites.. the music is so beautiful and multidimensional. its like listening to a kaleidoscope.

  • What the fuck beats the 80's - anyone feel me??

  • @bigcanadiano The 60's. However, you really needed to be there. The 80's was close second, however.

  • @bigcanadiano i don't no was born in the last fukin year

  • @bigcanadiano The 70s...and that's not just my opinion; it's agreed on by many social scientists who have deemed it the age of 'bold, new things.'

  • @bigcanadiano the best part of the eighties was still the seventies! The worst of the eighties planted the seeds of the trouble we are living in now.

  • so great dance moves

  • Fantastic music!I love Peter!!!

    Amazing.......

    Jack, from Brazil......

  • BESTEST

  • Anyone else playing "Name That 80s Pop Star" from 5:45?

  • I luv this song so much!

in your eyes i am completed!!

  • The video version is the best by far.

  • This is so good! Thanks for posting!

  • why do I love Gabriel? Listen to the words and the vocals!!!

  • @chyrd

snarlah--i don't like him; I love him, and have seen him live a number of times.

  • His voice always sounds like he he's in a desert and finally found an oasis.

  • Thks Piet!

  • beautiful voice, beautiful lyrics, beautiful spirit.

    thank you peter gabriel!

    and thank you for posting!

  • Was für ein toller Sänger und Mann!

  • Increíble, el tiempo parece no pasar por el Sr. Tony Levin, está igualito.

  • That would've been a show.

  • Peter Gabriel is boss :D

  • I have this song on one of the live vids he put out.. I wouldn't trade those memories for all the gold in the world... Still brings tears to my eyes. Most profound lyrics...

  • I love this. Great sounding. At first I wasnt too found of the dancing but then I understood from another comment it was african style dancing. He sounds so amazing.

  • Brilliant. (If you like this, find San Jacinto 1986 (live, amazing set for Amnesty Tour)

  • Absolutely one of my favorites.

  • Peter Gabriel is a very appealing person.

  • very cute..lol

  • LINDA!!!!!!!

  • it takes rare energy to do this

  • oh my god, that ending was beautiful.

  • tony kicks ass

  • 5 idiots don't like this... get your ears and eyes checked. Fools!

  • @shamisenjon79

Now, they are 6... but 6 divided by 404943 it's a very little thing... I guess those are only guys who were drunk and miss the right spot in the screen!

  • @shamisenjon79

    They could've misklicked you know...

  • @shamisenjon79

10 fucking devils don't like this song. They don't know that this song is an absolute marvel. A song that evokes peace

  • @shamisenjon79 more like "get your heart checked"

  • Awesome. I've never seen this before and I'm an old-school rocker from the 80's. What a great performance of a classic song by a classic artist. Has anyone ever noticed the Christian theme of this song???

  • my goodness, what an excellent artist...

    move da' soul

    shake da' ass !

  • Love seeing him jump around with Youssou. :D

  • Youssou N'dour sings with pure joy in his voice. He is speaking wollof the language spoken in Gambia and Senegal, see 0:57. Love him

  • If watching this doesn't lift you up at least a bit, you just might be dead.

  • This - this indescribable, yet moving, is a symbol of all art. . . his name is Peter Gabriel.

  • he has one of the best voices ever. and he was so beautiful! i do believe i feel in love with peter gabriel after watching this video.

  • he has one of the best voices ever. and he was so beautiful! i do believe i feel in love with peter gabriel after watching this video.

  • 3:47 wow..................wow

  • whats up with the bass player from 3:09 to 3:16 hahaha

  • @ionmeketawa hahahaaha i see man your funny as heck

  • I love Peter Gabriel! Nobody will ever sing this song as well.

  • @jayisham I don't think anyone has ever bothered to sing it apart from him, have they?

  • Damnblastify,

Actually yes. This dude Jeffrey Gaines did back in 1992. Cool rendition but not nearly as good as Peter's original score.

  • Jazz singer Dianne Reeves as well as Edwin McCain

  • This brought back memories of a fantastic concert in Worcester MA yrs ago :)

  • i got tickets to the new blood tour on may 2nd at RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL... Do u think they will let me bring my DSLR camera in for the concert?

  • Brilliant!

  • Well, I should have read more of the comments before posting. I see that a complete listing is given by Milander a year ago who also explains about it being to benefit victims of Hurricane Irene. So when was that Hurricane?

  • What an awesome video of a uniquely moving song! A couple of questions, though-

when was this filmed (taped)? What concert was it? One can see that it was in Japan. What was the cause for this benefit?

I only recognized only a few of the artists.

PDmac, why would you call Jackson Browne an ass monkey? What does that even mean?

I also saw Steven VAn Zandt, but I do not know many others.

Does anyone know what the African lyrics are in middle of the song saying.

    Love one another.

  • the NEW Peter Gabriel album "SCRATCH MY BACK" - out middle of February in Europe and Canada, beginning of March in the USA : )

  • gAH! i LOVED THIS MUSIC, fUCK IT. i* LOVE IT>

  • beatiful, beatiful and beatiful...

  • király!!!!

  • altamente,sinplesmente genial

  • By the way,,, THomas Dolby is INCREDIBLE as well...in answer to you guys below - tell T Dolby's daughter her Dad is absolutely amazing.. and I am positive PGabriel thinks he is, too.. one of the most innovative musicians of the last quarter century... One of Our Submarines... is missing...!!!

  • I'll always 'come back to the place that you are.'

    Thanks Gabriele.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • What great stage performances and spirit !!

And, to me personally, it's great to see a video of young Peter Gabriel again, not to forget the reason for the concert !

  • Many Thanks!

    PG is great!

I'm about to make an application as bass-player at RealWorld.

  • Japan Aid? When was that? Looks very 87 to me...

  • Yes, ther will never be a better VOICE !!!

  • holy shit, did Tony Levin ever have hair?

  • omfg this is awesome!!!!

  • Genius.

  • That is the Cutest Dance steps, he did

I just Realize it at African skip or step.

I love Peter Gabriel & Phil Colin'

    They should have stay together.

    Love,

    Teri

  • Never heard that argument before... haha usually its either Peter or Phil. But then again the magic happened when they were on stage together with the guys!

  • @wuzup36i3 You say "they should have stay together" but some of their best music has come since they split. They might never have created that if they'd stayed together.

  • @wuzup36i3 Phil Collins is a great talent... but 10% of Peter's !!!

  • It's one of my favourites. I love The book of love too (lol)...

  • hes the greatest

  • Is that Thomas Dolby on stage at the end?

  • I thought it was, but I asked his daughter who I go to school with, and she said it wasn't him :)

  • That is Howard Jones I believe.. Jackson Browne is on stage singing too... pretty cool to see other upper tier stars so jazzed to be onstage w PGabe.. you know they all think he is on another level..because he is... just look at their faces, excited to join in the performance... not because of the cause of this event, but because they know he kicks total ass... go Peter Go..

  • Jackson Browne is an @ss monkey. but I thought that other guy was Eddie Murphy....

  • Good stuff

  • Sittin' here, cryin' cryin' cryin'! ^____^

  • This is my favorite song.

  • This song gets me right in my soul.....

  • LOL!

  • Dance you silly bastard, DANCE!!!

  • True..he is in the moment, silly or not. Yet, it's a great classic. I hope you enjoy it.

  • The POV concert from the 80's is coming out on DVD this year. I can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Manu Katche is a drumming God.Something supremely unique about this dude.God bless him.

oh and Tony Levin ain't noone to fuck with either.Sublime rhythm section I tell ya.

  • @sensitivdude yea these guys put so much groove in the song

  • @sensitivdude Peter only gets the best.

  • Peter Gabriel has some great songs and usually he sounds great but he sounds very hoarse on this one, maybe he had a cold or it was a long show....hes dressed liked a James Bond villian in this.

  • Peter s well known for his harsh vocals :P

  • You don't think it adds to the song? Man, I do!! What a babe!!

  • despite his unbending insularity, Peter Gabriel seems like one of the sincerest art rockers.

  • I think it is Howard Jones.. it looks like a some Aid Concert in Japan

  • Is that Howard Jones on the stage at the end??

  • yep

  • uh who yes it is
