The other song is "Nobody Home" and it was released with only guitar accompaniment on "Once In Every Life" which is out of print. It showed up again on the "Remembering Madison County" soundtrack. I'm currently writing Hartman's biography if anyone wants to contact me with first-hand knowledge of the man.
johnny hartman did a whole cd with loonis mc gloohon on AUDIOPHILE and the material on this cd is very similar to this song, and the other one on youtube.
it's a great cd, there are 20 songs on it, and the title is: THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING (he recorded another cd for AUDIOPHILE, THIS ONE'S FOR TEDI, for his wife).
Johnny Hartman is INCREDIBLE. I have been a fan of his for years and he has had a strong influence on my own singing career. Thanks so much for this wonderful clip! Ken Slavin
I'm very happy to find videos of the great Johnny Hartman one of my favourites singers. Don't you got (anybody) more? It was a surprise I couldn`t find any in Emule.
My God. I've been a Johnny Hartman fanatic for about six years, ever since I stumbled upon his version of "Lush Life" on a compilation album. I picked up a copy of the Coltrane album shortly thereafter, and it changed my conception of what a male "jazz singer" could be. The beauty of Hartman is his sincerity - he means every word he sings! It's a real joy to finally see some video of him in action. What a beautiful gift this man was.
"As good as the greatest???" LOL!!! He IS one of the greatest and as much as I love D. Martin, and Torme, they aren't his musical peers...not even close.
Bublé is much better. Just kidding. Anyway, I strongly believe Hartman is the most underrated crooner of all time. Dean Martin by the way is better than most people think, hear his version of "One for my baby" (on Youtube).
Thanks! I don't get me wrong, I LOVE D. Martin and I have the utmost respect for him - musically AND as an entertainer, I just didn't think he was quite on the level of the elite.
I going to check out the "One For My Baby" video now.
I met Johnny on in late 70's. I told him he would have made a great operatic bass. He says, "When I was studying at college in Chicago, I was trained as a concert singer". We chatted a while then patted me on the shoulder and said, "Well I guess I'll leave the opera singing to you younger fellows" and proceeded to do his next set. I couldn't believe I was sitting in Alery's in RI. with only about 15 other people, listening to what I believe was the finest male low voice ever recorded.- Leon
Lucky You! Isn´t it a shame that more people didn´t know this "legend". How many recordings are available of his, in print? Do you have any idea on how to get a hold of these? He´s incredible, and yet, I don´t know how to get a hold of any of his recordings. Am in Spain, so, of course it is close to impossible. Thanks for any help!
Hi, EE Ther is a lot of stuff by Hartman from 1940's thru to the 1980's. Rhapsody, Napster and other music services allow you to download, to your computer, mp3 files of any singer for about a dollar per song. The Hartman albums on the IMPULSE label are the best.

You're quite wrong about him not being a member of the elite. Just check out what Ahmad Jamal and Earl Hines have to say about him!

Johnny was one of the most under rated singers of his era, and a heck of a nice guy too.
