  • That was hillarious! I'm black and I dont cosider him racist, he just had no mic skills so all he could do was yap about the obvious, Still funny though

  • Wasn't Freedom great..

The say we are free but as soon as you speak your mind everyone starts to cry about how they don't think what you said was right and you shouldn't be able to say this and be able to say that.

GET OVER IT ALREADY!! TOo many people these days want to tell their story on how someone done them wrong.. Boo FUCKING Hoo!! We can say what we want and if someone else doesn't like it TOUGH SHIT. Go somewhere else then!! It's that easy!!

  • One time I heard a guy yell "SHINE MAH SHOES, VIRGIL!" That was funny.

  • @TheRantMachine2011 Nasty black man, shinin shoes, rub your nasty black face and nothin left but a big black spot.....yeah pretty racist dude

  • Comment removed

  • Al Sharpton wasn't around during this time so white people had the liberty to say what they felt.

  • Rick Flair wanna be.. from the shades to the Robe.. to way the he sounds... "Master of the Figure 4 leg lock" Really?

  • @DazHim03 Ric FLair is a Buddy Rogers wanna be. Literally. after he died Flair took rogers nick name "The Nature Boy" and did everything Rogers did. Get off Flairs dick.

  • steriods anyone?

  • LMAO....he wanted to say nigga SO BAD!!!

  • the whiteman could be a lot more honest back in the day.

  • Look at Mean Gene @2:27 He even can't believe it!

  • cableconnection6 They didn't script promos back then. THe wrestlers could actually cut promos and didn't need "scripts"

  • That Nasty Black Man? hahaha

  • In those days, racist comments were considered bad but not so extremely outrageous as today. That is probably why it was easy for Greg to make that comment. Even though it was 100% scripted.

  • chico santana

  • Is this why we never saw Valentine with a microphone in front of him again?

  • No wonder The Hammer never became WWE champion.

  • Its not racist, its called being horrible at promos and having no charisma.

  • @bigfloridapimp What are you talking about? He has charisma out the yin yang and this promo kicks ass. It's harsh and he makes it real. Even the fact some here are not sure if he's playing a character or not is proof of that.

  • Man, that old Intercontinental belt looked like it was made out of aluminum foil!

  • I think Valentine is playing a cruel character. Greg seems like a nice guy so I don't think he's a racist. But he should be guilty for making terrible promos :(. Valentine is a great worker but terrible on the mic.

  • thats what people dont understand now almost everything before the late 90"s would have some thing people consider to be racist now that nobody thought of back then . I remeber watching short circuit as a kid there is a part where a white actor is act as "east asain" in the 80's nobody gave a darn now you would have every "east asain " interest group protesting . just saying.

  • I've never heard him refer to a Caucasian

persons color in a promo. Or refer to economic stereotypes like shining shoes

most people doing that sort of servitude thing were slaves.

Give a valid reason as to why he said those things. before you say its not racist.

  • worst promo ever

  • what was the racist bit?

  • youtube comments are racist why not white text lol

  • nothing racist about this... just fags being over sensitive.. junkyard dog is black,, and was awesome.. he almost won the wrestlemania 2 battle royal ..besides didn't he beat valentine.. ?

  • @jiujitsuG0D LOL, that was Bad News Brown who won the Wrestlemania 4 battle royal, not the JYD. Both are dead though. And the Wrestlemania 2 battle Royal was won by Andre the Giant

  • @BSabres87 yeah youre right .. but jyd was in till the end sort off right?

  • hes just telling the truth

  • Its racist if you never knew the men, but truth be told they were pretty good friends outside the ring.

  • I don't see how calling a black man black is racist. I don't think anybody would scream racism if somebody called Hammer a nasty white man.

  • Sorry I see no racism here

  • hahahahaha Mene gene thinking wtf???? haha

  • So what colour was Junkyard Dog? No racism here.

  • Why does he have the Divas Championship Belt????? lol

  • It was a little racy but not racist, JYD is black did if have to mention it no, but he's a heel trying get heat from the fans. Stop being such a mark lol. #I'm Black too

  • what's so racist about this, cause he said black man? fuck off

  • Why does Greg Valentine remind me of The Amazing Athiest?

  • I wouldn't call this racism, more like subtle bigotry, but not outright racism

  • That's not a racist, it's called getting cheap heel heat.

  • @AdoublesLdouble Its also called being high as fuck

  • @RegaLPleX08 well, he is a known pothead,. nothing wrong with a little blunt

  • lol the guy behind them

  • Comment removed

  • Not only that Roddy Piper in his Wrestlemania 2 Promo Against Mr.T, (1986) he said to T, "Never would I shave My Head Like An Indian and Paint Myself Black" then 4 years later at WM6 Piper paints Himself Half Black in his Match against Bad News Brown (Who was Black), In the Boxing Match on SNME Leading into WM2 Mr.T vs Bob Orton Piper and Orton were Whipping Mr. T at the End of the Match and you can hear Jesse Ventura on Commentary saying "This looks like Roots 2 McMahon", Dusty Rhodes

  • @romans52345 don't forget the most "racist" gimmick of all time, Col. DeBeers

  • thats a heel

  • If you thought that was racist then you should check out some of the promos Piper was doing a few years before it. Either way, Valentine/Piper were the villains and racists tend to make good villains. If they were cutting racist promos as babyfaces then it would be a different story.

  • That wouldn't fly today haha

  • Yeah... he's obviously been dipping into some of grandpa's cough medicine.

  • The announcer at the beginning was Freddie Miller. He was the studio announcer for TBS when they broadcast their first ever installment of WWF wrestling. The TV audience was expecting to see Gordon Solie and Bob Caudle and the usual NWA wrestlers in the studio, but instead they got Freddie and taped matches from WWF that had played before on "Championship Wrestling" and other WWF programs. A few months later NWA was back on TBS.

  • He called him called him a "Nasty Black Man" then he called him a "boy" then told him to go shine shoes. I think that's clearly race bating. Which was a part of wrestling in this era. Nothing wrong with it, cheap heat.

  • WHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • He didn't say anything racist at all..JYD was a black man and thats what Hammer called him..sooooo whats the problem?

  • Ummm...he is black. How is that racist?

  • you are going to bite the dust, im going to rub your nasty black face right into the ring, so all thats left is a black spot

    yikes

  • that belts a peice of shit

  • @UnseenEntityMetal That belt was cheap, no doubt... it was replaced by the first version of famous InterContinental title design not too long after this promo aired.

  • @josephD32 Yet this belt still looks better than the current tag team titles, ugh, and not to mention the Divas title

  • @AdoublesLdouble you know something... you're absolutely right, lol.

  • lmfao. fucking steroids gives you one deep voice

  • ( SIGH )

I hate the world I live in today you can't say NOTHING if you're white man no more but if you're a black man say what ever the hell you like....the society we live in is filled with hypocrites......it's almost comical

  • @690169 not at all bro I'm a black guy and thought that was hilarious. BUT thats just me.

  • @ABCdawggg LMAO!!!

  • He looks like a giant next to that mic

  • Nasty black person. I don't think it's as offensive as it's just a dumb insult. Jimmy Hart should have done the talking for Valentine there, my goodness.

  • Why is Greg doing this promo when he has one of the best managers of the Golden Era?

  • @Dudeamis some1 commented on my comment so i came bck...then i saw your comment and your absoloutly right hart was a genius on the stick and shoulda did these til greg could be a little more anything but that...but thats the way they drew heat and and that whole angle was over

  • valentine, WE COMIN FOR YOU NIGGA!

  • He's horrible on the mic!

  • He's a heel, he's supposed to be despicable. People get butthurt over things like this but are more than willing to ignore REAL racism out in the actual world.

  • @frrrrrunkis Thank you, 100% truth

  • This is great, Political Correctness has watered down everything.

  • And they wonder why 80s babies don't give a shit. The 80s people didn't give a shit but I loved it.

  • aaaaaaah, good old 80's racism.

  • Greg "The Drunk" Valentine...gotta love him though

  • LOL Wow....He said "you nasty black person" it's funny!! I'm no way near offended!! did you see Gene Okerlund's face at 2:27 LOL Priceless!!!

  • I'M NOT ANGRY AT GREG VALENTINE ... LIFE HAS PAID HIM BACK ....HAVE YOU SEEN HIM LATELY ....HE LOOKS LIKE A OLE FAT F%CKING DRAG QUEEN .... CHECK OUT HIS SHOOT INTERVIEWS ...

  • The best part is the uncomfortable expressions on the faces of the guys holding the mic.

  • Comment removed

  • different times...everything today is deemed racist.

  • @ronan32 Exactly

  • lol what a heel

  • gene oaklands face at 1.46

  • @TheJournalist007 His name is OKERLUND, moron.

  • @TheJournalist007 Who's Gene Oakland? I only see Gene Okerlund there...dont call yourself the Journalist if you cant get the name right...turd nuts

  • gene oaklands like damn your an asshole

  • it starts off funny then it becomes extreamly racist.

  • Crying about political correctness... wow, that's so 90s. Calling somebody black is racist... crying about that crap is being a pussy. That's just a way trying to silence some discussions, nothing more. This promo is about 25 years old. Get over it, people.

  • @arschsau2050 i like your opinion, I always said if one adult is offended by the words of another adult to the point of crying about it, then that adult should grow the fuck up

  • when wrestling was good, its so gay now

  • Srd1126, dont put comments on my page about an intelligent promo. Better yet, dont say shit to me. U r a racist fuck just like Valentine. I still like and respect Valentine and I always have, but i didnt appreciate that promo. You can cut an "intelligent promo" without using color as an issue. Just because JYD wasnt a premiere wrestler, you dont have to continue puttin him down just because he's black and make a comment saying "he would be shining shoes somewhere," keep that shit to yourself.

  • damn 'The Hammer' can still get a rise out of us. And this is old as shit

  • You all know he's using this off a writers script, right? So if you're looking to call someone a racist, point to either the scriptwiter or to Vince.

  • Shut up LighthouseJC he's calling him black Boy/Man that's raciest.

  • I honestly don't see this as racist... He's just saying Junk Yark Dog is Black... SENSITIVE... And I had the pleasure of Meeting JYD myself and I'm not racist...

  • He in Solid me ! ..He in solid meeeeeeeeeeee !!!

The worse tripping up a promo next to Warrior ..Black and Boy jesus they could have done this over it wasn't live !!

  • This is so racist plain and simple.

  • Why did they think this was a good idea? You racist.

  • LOL...It's a known fact that some wrestlers do a "racist" slant to build up the hype...I saw Greg the Hammer 10 years ago, ran into him @ an airport...dude was nice and had enough class to be polite...

  • u nasty black person, u!!! LOL

  • Valentine promos really sucked ass and playing on the whole race thing made it even worst!

  • @like2seeit86 It's sad it's disgusting.

  • Second most racist promo I've seen. #1 would definetly be Roddy Piper promo on Bad News Brown(Allen) where he painted his face half black. That one made me lose ALL respect for Piper and I really liked him. Worst thing is McMahon approved all this or it wouldnt have been shown on TV

  • @CreepyTheButcher

The thing is that to this day there's no real explanation for that.

It wasn't part of the storyline, that's why the commentators didn't know what to make of it, and it just didn't make sense. What statement was he (the babyface) supposed to be making to Brown (the heel)?

I've heard Piper touch on it in interviews and just laugh it away, but as a young black fan I didn't know if I should still like Piper. Why should a child have to ask those questions?

  • @ViolentRiC The worst part is I saw it fairly recently because apparently the WWE still feels there is nothing wrong with it because they included that promo on a WWE DVD in the last few years.....Piper's I think. You'd think everyone including Piper would distance themselves from it. WWE didnt use Brown properly as well, him being a world famous wrestler and judo player before even arriving and Vince used him for a mid-card jobber more or less. I still liked him though, even as a small child :)

  • @CreepyTheButcher If the guy had a problem with it , it would not have been done . its that simple . You must not have had much respect for Piper in the first place for you to lose ALL respect for him . A bit on the dramatic side there imo . Perhaps as a "small child" you shouldnt have been watching it

  • @bilkomax IDK Bad News Brown said in a shoot interview he didnt agree, Vince McMahon just told him thats what they were going with but thats after the fact. you probably right cause if he disagreed so much he would have quit. i dont care....it is what it is i just remember being a lil shocked when i saw it, thats all. i thought the whole "black face" routine died out long before piper did that. you just dont see it anymore.

  • Hey violentDIC, thanks for proving to the YouTube comments world what an idiot you are. You're a fat joke that needs to lay off of the chocolate pudding.

  • @burnjburn

Look at my profile picture; do I look fat?

It'd be wise to learn how to reply to somebody's comment before calling them an idiot - I only saw this because I was checking someone else's response.

We both know that I'm not an idiot, I have sense and have more wisdom when it comes to this world than most people either of us will meet in our lifetimes.

    Take care, -RiC

  • @ViolentRiC Aha! the profile does NOT match the person. You are NOT about peace. You're a troll trying to start some Youtube BS! Take your own advice and Don't Have Children! "Now get me out of this dump." Your words. So leave then. But take your trash with you. The room smells better already.

  • @Juan321C

Well it's my profile, I assure you. I don't recall saying I was about peace, although I do prefer it to conflict.

I'm not a troll, a troll says the things he/she says to get a reaction - I say it because I mean it. This world is clogged with fools and I admit that I have little patience for idiots. But I am driven by the pursuit of Truth and beauty; there isn't a contradiction there.

You try dealing with this "he didnt say nigger so it wasnt racist" crap and keep smiling.

  • @ViolentRiC Dealt with it...and words only have power if you allow it! Calm down, brother. It's okay to fight the fight. But you're trying to fight EVERY fight. Peace, Ric. Calling people idiots will get you nowhere. We can all agree to disagree. And at the end of the day, we can still respect one another. I see good in you, direct that energy towards the positive side. I apologize for my last comment. Happy New Year to you, and may it be a positive one, my friend. Peace.

  • @Juan321C

Well Happy New Year to you, and I appreciate the comment.

Yes, they got under my skin, and yes there are more effective ways at getting one's point across than calling people idiots. No I don't promise I'll take the high road every time...I'm a very imperfect guy, like John Lennon only a bit less brilliant.

What I like to do is challenge people to defend what they say. Honestly, I'm usually more balanced but there as so much falseness here I couldn't breathe.

    See, that's-

  • --why it annoyed me as it did - I fully believe that most of the people saying "this wasn't racist, stop crying" were doing so because they saw this as a discussion about whether or not Greg is bad for what he said. Whether or not we should be against Greg for those words.

Rather than saying "It was racist, but I don't mind racism" or "I don't think it was that extreme", they say "what racism? I didn't hear any", and that falseness pisses me off.

    I'm painfully honest about things..

  • ..shit, if you'd read more of my posts on other topics there's a fair chance you wouldn't like me. Not because I'm nasty or hurtful to people, but because I go against certain taboos on issues most don't even want to touch.

I used to lie to myself unknowlingly like the most of us do, and so now when I see people doing it so brazenly I want to put them on the spot.

Ignorance and falseness are my enemies. I love what is true and what has (true, not physical) beauty.

    Much love!

  • @ViolentRiC So why is it racist to call a person black or brown? If that offends then what's the difference between that and calling a Canadian a Canadian? A white person white? Racism is when you put your own race above others or put another race down as whole? So my question is why is it offensive to point out skin color? It seams to me the person offended is either looking for a reason to sook, or thinks their black skin is worse then the offender's which would make them racist.

  • @TheTimeSphere

I'll explain, but first let me tell you that you're being unrealistic and taking an overly literal approach to language (when that is not the nature of language - it's context dependent). Secondly, you mention being offended. I did not mention being offended, I quite clearly said that this is not about whether or not anybody should find the promo offensive, it's about people arguing against the obvious fact that it was a racist promo.

    [continued]

  • Example a) Who is that black man? I think I recognise him.

Example b) I'm going to beat that nasty black man

Both examples point out race, but only one could reasonably be interpreted as racist. Racism isn't some robotic formula, communication is based around context and intented meanings.

In and of itself, it is NOT racist to mention a person's race. However, to make a point of a person's race where none is needed in the midst of a derogatory comment e.g.

    [ctd]

  • .."I never liked that Jewish bastard" or with sexuality "I'd love to punch that disgusting gay man in his face"

bearing in mind that NO specification is required for clarity, implies that the person's race/sexuality is significant. We know this because they made a point of mentioning it. The prior adjective is very significant too "nasty black man" "disgusting gay man" - it becomes one complete statement and to pick out one element ('black') and say "well saying someone's black...

  • ..is not offensive" is to ignore the statement in its entirety and to ignore the intended message of the speaker.

Do you know what? I'm going to stop here and be frank again. I shouldn't have to be typing this out and breaking down how communication works. I'm tired of people like yourself who apparently need me to explain the nature of these things. Private message me if you want a full on breakdown of human communication and how messages and intentions are conveyed through...

  • ..spoken language. I'm sick of this crap - you're either dishonest or you're ill equipped at understanding concepts which should be fundamental.

If I call your mother a fat fuck, I'm insulting her. It doesn't matter that a 'fuck' is not a thing, and I'm not merely observing her weight. It's an insult which is obvious to anyone who's honest.

Finally, he threw shoe shining insults at him as well. And it was SUPPOSED TO BE RACIST.

Leave me alone, I'm utterly sick of you.

  • @ViolentRiC I was interested in your perspective, but that's all, not challenging it or implying you were wrong in any way. I appreciate you indepth response but to spend 4 comment boxes doing so then typing out your thought process as you decide my question was do dumb it didn't deserve all that attention in the first place, then deciding i must not understand how communication threw language works and to leave you alone because your sick of me leads me to conclude your retarded.

  • @TheTimeSphere well the question honestly was dumb. I would not have responded so lengthy because i wouldve assumed you were retarded. There's no reason to point out skin colour unless you're describing what someone looks like. No pointing out skin colour is not racist itsself but feeling the need to point out skin colour is off. And you may have some issues with race if you do it.

  • @TheTimeSphere

If the way in which I responded to you is typical of a retarded person then they're far more intelligent than they get credit for.

Absolutely, you didn't deserve a comment of that length; I was attempting to explain it as requested but explaining something so simple is deceptively difficult, and therefore complex, because if you don't understand the basics I pretty much have to start from the ground up.

How could you understand language yet ask that question?

  • @ViolentRiC Im sure they had a good drink together after it . If you're that easily offended you wouldnt want to hear how Jack Johnson was treated both before, during & after becoming the first black Heavyweight boxing champion of the world .

  • @bilkomax

At no point did I say I was offended. I was not offended, I was stating that it was plainly racist and that it's bullshit to claim there was no racism in the promo.

People are full of shit. And stupid, many are that too.

  • Comment removed

  • @burnjburn LMFAO!!!

  • If YouTube comments sections for videos involving

Religion, race, sexuality, politics, wrestling, cover versions of popular songs, and just about anything that attracts the mass of idiots dragging their knuckles around and breathing up all the oxygen

were an accurate representation of humanity, I'd personally advocate our own genocide.

Honestly, you're idiots, your parents are/were idiots, and I'm quite sure your friends are too. Now get me out of this dump.

  • Obvious things for the people on YouTube who should never under any circumstances reproduce:

    1) There's no question as to whether the promo was racist. You're either deaf or lying to yourself if you think otherwise, there is no debate. If you think you need to say 'nigger' to be racist, please never speak in public again because you can't handle simple concepts

    2) It's a heel (bad guy) promo, it's deliberately racist to make him more dislikable -it doesn't accurately reflect his true feelings

  • That's PAUL WILLIAMS!

  • That was racist ?!?!?!? wow people are senstive these days

  • @cindyns1

Uh, no you're full of crap.

It was supposed to be racist and obviously was. In your world calling a black guy a nasty (long pause..better not actually say the n word) black person, nasty black man, and telling them they'll go back to shining shoes - do you not know the significance of shoe shining?

Too sensitive? If the promo wasn't racist then Greg had failed because it was a deliberately racist heel promo.

So, you a troll or a dishonest racist?

  • @ViolentRiC yeah sure ok

  • @ViolentRiC And as a Native Canadian i know all about racism, racism directed at us from all and i mean all other races, do i take it seriously little one... no. it is my opinion little one that this was not all that bad, so don't hide who and what you are behind personal attacks on other people ok

  • @cindyns1

If you'd have said "this was racist, but in the grander scheme or racism it wasn't all that hurtful" you'd be making a correct point.

Of course, it'd still be a pointless point to make. Of *course* the experience of racism in the world is more than having a few insults hurled at you, but what did you want Greg to do? Hang his family from a tree? Give him a disproportionately high rate of interest on a loan?

You said it wan't racist and it was. How one takes it is another q

  • Booker T called Hogan a nigga. Looks like there all a bunch of racist promoters.

  • @Joobs0917 How is a black man calling a white man a nigga racist?

  • omg gene okerlund's face is priceless

  • Mean Gene is just thinking to himself, "We're are so sued after this".

  • And fuck Valentine. What was he besides IC champ and that lil bullshit tag title reign he had with Beefcake? What? Rhythm and Blues? Kiss my ass.

  • @michaeljackson1978 He was a person able to gut an intelligent promo and not come out and bark like some idiot like JYD always did. Nothing racist about this spot, just good promo cutting. JYD was a moron, take away the headbutt and he would be shining shoes for a living. No good in the ring or on the mic.

  • @Srd1126

I'm not about to pretend that I know what JYD was like in the ring, because I didn't watch WWF (or much wrestling at all) back in these days, but you've got to be kidding to say that there was NOTHING racist about this spot. Or are you just stupid?

  • @jdrhjr It is just a funny spot, not a racist one. Get over it and quit crying "racism" when something is said that you do not like. It makes the accuser look like a crybaby, which they are.

  • @Srd1126

If it isn't racist, then why does Gene have a look on his face like, "I can't believe he just said that" after every one of Valentine's more offensive comments? It is racist. There is no "crying" about it. I honestly don't care, but at least call a spade a spade.

  • @jdrhjr Gene got those looks all the time. But kind of a racist comment on your part, calling JYD a spade.

  • @jdrhjr

LOL. You talk about racism, then you call JD 'a spade'. Did you mean that ironically? I hope so... douche. LOL.

  • @iTubeYourDadsMinge

Are you retarded? I wasn't calling JYD a "spade". Have you ever even heard the expression "call a spade a spade" before? God, people on youtube are so stupid.

  • It was racist. I dont give a damn if it was an act. The fact that he said the word Black was racist enough. If the roles were reversed and JYD was calling Valentine a nasty white person and that he would leave a big white spot in the ring, yall would take offense and JYD would have been considered racist. And one more thing, Ghosthunter, the word Nigger does not mean a black person. Sounds like you're racist your damn self. Go look it up.

  • more like "A loaf of bread face" Greg Valentine.

  • Purple haze

  • more like greg "the drunk" valentine

  • @dereka79 u must not have experienced racism cus this was pretty bad. Dont give a fuck if its an act

  • I am actually laughing at the "nasty black man" parts and the way he's saying it, and I'm black. The rest, yeah is a tad racist.

  • 1:44: Mean Gene wasn't cool with that, even if it was kayfabe. Was a character's promo, not the performer's, but was still offensive.

  • Ya gotta be pretty hungry for bread and circus, to participate, in this at all.

  • wow greg cant cut promos lol

  • Hah! Look at Gene at 1:45 and 2:34. Trying to act shocked and make it seem as if Greg shouldn't say such things. This was an awkward and stupid moment for everyone involved. Thank the owner/producer/writers for this shit. They tell the wrestlers how they want things to look on TV.

  • Comment removed

  • Greg was told to inject words like that into the promo to make it seem controversial. Same thing happened with HHH and Booker T. Dialogue that approaches racism has been used before to catch attention. But you can tell that Greg is faking this far more than a usual promo because he's doing this half assed and without any life in it at all. He's not a racist at all so he'd obviously feel kinda awkward doing something like this which is why the promo is so damn terrible.

  • i think he came at the 1:03 mark

  • Well the closest I heard to this being racist was when he said " slap you around boy" in one part of the interview at about 1:16. That is probably the worst of it.

  • @earthjin2000

Weird how you missed the shoe shining bit and when he called him a nasty black man.

This isn't a question of whether Greg's racist in real life, it's OBVIOUSLY a racist promo - that was the entire point! Now people are here trying to claim it wasn't racist? Why do some people want to believe it wasn't racist?

And please don't tell me that saying "nasty black man" isn't racist, just descriptive. Ttry calling someone a nasty Jew and see how racist it isn't.

  • IMMA SLAP YO BLACK ASS WITH SOME BABY OIL BOY!
