Great band! Poor man's Purple? Hell no. Sure there is a Purple connection – Nick Simper and the Purple influenced sound/instrumentation. But both albums by Warhorse were great!
These guys sound so much like Purple It isn't funny. The vocalist is even attempting to scream like GILLAN, which he doesn't even come close. This song is clearly a rip off of WRING THAT NECK.
Es una lastima que buscando este grupo por otros lados salga otros grupos con el mismo nombre :( acaso no les da para ponerle otro nombre adecuado a su banda de rock ...
It's great to see live footage of bands like Warhorse, Lucfier's Friend and Captain Beyond. I just wish that there was some footage of Sir Lord Baltimore too...
This find is beyond awesome. Warhorse were not quite as charismatic as Purple, but this video proves that they were much more talented than the average of the third-tier heavy prog bands with which they are unfortunately lumped together.
@bnine I've talked with your bassist (nickel) on facebook and he believes in this old school approach to finger playing. There's many different ways to experiment with this philosophy. The greatest bassist I've seen in this regard is Geoff Griffiths from Black Widow: his style is an "all style" -- a chameleon style that changes it's color to suit the flavor of the track. Watch the Black Widow - demons off the night dvd to see what I mean. \m/ Orchid \m/
@TheWolfe666 More of a striking resemblance to Deep Purples Wring That Neck which came out in 68 I believe. So, that would make this a derivative but a damn good one !
@couch63 Yes, this has a touch of the "Wring That Neck, with vocals". But Nick Simper was one of the primary writers of WTN. Some Warhorse numbers have Purple Mk.1 references - Woman of the devil borrows from the intro to River Deep, Mountain High, and Back in Time is almost a heavier version of Shadows. Not direct rip-offs, but influences. I love Warhorse's two-and-a-half albums. If only more live stuff remained...
Notable fans of Pete Parks - Brian May and Michael Schenker! And I reckon Steve Harris and Pete Way could've been influenced by Simper. Also, Rick Wakeman still works with Ashley Holt to this day. Great band. Shame there's no full DVD of their live act.
This along with the song Burning are my two favorite Warhorse songs. These guys should have made it bigger than they did but i suppose in this era they were surounded with bands that had the same sound. Uriah Heep and Atomic Rooster somewhat. Ashley Holts voice is the most tolerable on this song
Too bad that original guitarist Ged Peck isn't here....he was a monster talent (if blatantly Blackmore influenced.....but then the entire band was very Purple-esque) But this is so rare and its great to see them live.
@strikerdiego Creo que esta banda es fundada por Nick Simper primer bajista bajista de Deep Purple, fué desepdido en el 69 y al parecer creó WARHORSE siguiendo el sonido de su anterior banda!
Most probably not, Eloy were from Germany and Frank Bornemann was their guitarist all along I beleive. This is great, Simper from Purple pumping it!!!
Isn't that Ashley Holt Rick Wakeman's singer?

Your comment made me laugh sir. Neither Bass player is better. Glover is more suited to Purple's sound.

@SqueekyDc Does bear a striking sonic resemblance to "Lazy", no? But if 1971, this would've been released before Machine Head, right? Was that 1972?

It sounds good but I preffer Ged Peck in guitars. Peter Parks is good but this is not his style, perhaps he`s better in funk.
