This is not the comic books. By your logic, I can sit there and argue that War Within Optimus Prime's correct original name is Orion Pax, despite that series calling him Optronix. Or I can say that Masterforce Ginrai and Powermaster Optimus Prime are the same character. Because, y'know it's all just one big G1. And cos, Spotlight: Blurr and Spotlight: Arcee... those were the exact same incarnations as the cartoons.

So true. In the third season, Rodimus was voiced by someone entirely different. Needless to say his voice acting doesn't even come close to how Nelson sounded back in the day.

At the time, Judd Nelson was a big movie star. It wasn't like it is now where film actors do voice work (eg: the Pixar films) and aven migrate to TV full-time. There was a definite hierarchy: voice actor then TV actor above that, then film actor. TV actors were trying to break into film, etc. So, there was really no possibility that Judd was going to do cartoon work for a full season. The person they did get, though, was Richard Gaultier, who you might know as Hymie the robot from Get Smart.

Yes. I'm aware of Judd Nelson's status as a big time celebrity back in the 80s. His most remembered roles he played in back then was in movies like "The Breakfast Club" and "St. Elmo's Fire". And in my opinion he was the perfect voice for Rodimus Prime with the release of the original movie. But he had other things to do other than reprise his role for the third season. So it's understandable that they had to find someone else to fill in his shoes.

@thehmphone I'm afraid so. The Japanese style animation from the movie was some of the best ever executed. It's ashame they could never pull of that sort of quality consistantly for season 3.

You could buy Classics Ultra Magnus and the City Commander Trailer Set if you like. But yeah, UM's transformation sequence here looks kind of forced.
