Troll in Central Park 1994 I remember this old movie? I was a kid watching this film is was right this movie. Also An American Tail 1986 I remember this move for a long time ago.
I never really paid attention to his work until the Dragon's Lair arcade game. He had later success with movies I really didn't care for. But he worked on Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, and one of my favorite - The Black Cauldron. He gave life to cel...and it's something I admire and appreciate.
Anastasia was an epic film too! And after Don left Disney, they made sucky movies (up until 1988-1988, an a few good new ones)... Yes, he made some not so good ones, but movies like The Secret of the Rats of NIMH and A Troll and Central Park ruled them all! Whatever anyone says, Don Bluth will always be my favourite director (and Hayao Miyazaki)
Sequel to Anastasia, a wonderful film filled with romance and music and adventure? Surely there should had been one(Not Bartok) since the movie did score big at the box office with more than 86 millions in profit. Compare to Disney films, if a film made 60-70 millions in profit and received fantastic reviews, then a sequel was made for it. Why not Anastasia 2? It was fiction based with some historical reference that'd charmed the world.
Don Bluth is sadly, underappreciated. There's so many people that bash him, why I don't know. But to anyone who bashes Don Bluth, let's not forget that it was competition from Don Bluth's movies that made disney go back to true quality and gave us classics such as Aladdin and the Lion King.
bartok the magnificent is my favourite cartoon movie ever I watched it first when i was 3 years old in two languages and arround a million times go bartok!...also anastasia is not bad ither.
Don Bluth was sort of an up and down director. My favorite films from him are An American Tale, Secret of NIMH. The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven. From 1992-1995, that's when he started to go down the drain a bit. The only film I liked from him in that era was the Swan Princess and Thumbelina. You can LOL all you want but I liked them. FernGully and Pebble and the Penguin sucked. The only highlight of them was Tim Curry. He kind of stopped directing after that period.
The Secret of Nimh - great! An American Tail - great! The Land Before Time, Awesome! All Dogs go to Heaven, good! Rock-a-Doodle, good! Thumbelina, beautiful movie! A Troll in Central Park, good! The Pebble and the Penguin, my third favourite don bluth film! Anastasia, my second favourite don bluth film! Bartok's my favourite character! Bartok the Magnificent, my favourite don bluth film! Titan A.E, great movie!
The Land Before Time is the best ainmated movie ever made by Don Bluth or anyone else. That's just the way it is.
Everything after ADGTH falls flat, except I did like Anastasia. It wasn't as good as ADGTH, TLBT, An American Tail or The Secret of Nimh, but it's still far superior to the crap they make today.
@davem1992ftw except for the troll movie (which I remember hating as a kid) you are wrong all that shit is AWESOME. the pebble and the penguin, rock a doodle, thumbalina, and anastasia. I bet you are a GUY. I and every other girl I knew looked up to those movies like they were GOD. I know three girls that have anastasia songs on their IPODS. TODAY!
i dont believe how many of these movies that are old childhood memories for me. whenever i watch one of my old childhood movies it feels like im meeting old friends. its the best feeling of all.
A Troll in Central Park was probably the worst of them all! It was so darn weird, and what was Don Bluth thinking when he put those two kids into something so strange as to be almost turned into stone by two revolting trolls?

Don Bluth. The guy who`s so clever to make all these films. What a bunch of shit. All he did was get fired from disney and start making disney knock offs. I like some of his films but he cheats in film making! Rotoscope, Nough said...So if you think this guy is SOO awesome how about actually looking him up and looking at his past and his "clever" techniques for animation.
@catloverattack I don't think you can call rotoscoping cheating. Disney used it (Snow White), so did Ralph Bakshi (a lot). It's a great method of animation for certain things, but can be overdone as in A Scanner Darkly (not a fan of that style). Disney discovered you can't trace everything frame for frame because it looks unrealistic--so they would change proportions (stretch the eyes wider for emotion, stuff like that). But I will agree that Don Bluth doesn't necessarily tell the best stories.
Good tribute! The Secret of NIMH is my favorite one (it's also my favorite Non-Disney movie). Everything from 1992-1995 was horrible, but the rest was great!
It's a shame you don't mention the Dragon's Lair video games in this, because he did make those as well. Plus, where's Banjo the Woodpile Cat?
I can't believe all the negative comments..wow... The people saying Disney would have made it better are ridiculous, because Don WORKED for Disney before.
I may not like the storyline for some of Bluth's movies, but I still think he deserves uttermost respect for his masterpieces.
Secret of NIMH: never saw it but would love to watch An American Tail: meh it's ok Land Before Time: retarted All dogs go to heaven: retarted Rock-a-doodle: WTF!! it's stupid Thumbelina: ugh.............lame Troll in Central Park: somthing only stoners would watch Pebble and the Penguin: it was good....when I was younger Anastasia: love it Bartok the Magnificent: stupid Titan A.E: Epiclly................LAME!!
The Secret Of NIMH was my most favorite, it was shared to me by a special friend. Thank you Don Buth for making such amazing movies. I love them all to this day.
omg i have neevr even heard of Bartok the magnificent, but when i was reading the description before the video, i was thinking "Bartok? I'm sure that's the bat in Anastasia!" And it is, haha, love him....
But LBT has got to be the best DB film ever made...
he was once a good animator of disney. he directed disney movies such as "the fox and the hound", "101 dalmatians", and "the many adventures of winnie the pooh."
He later left disney because he was not credited well in the movie, "the fox and the hound." He then made these animated feature films which was Disney's competition in 1990's.
I didn't like Thumbelina too much. But what I only liked about that film is the frog (or toad), not the girl toad, but the one who was after Thumbelina in the whole movie.

And personally, I don't know why so many people hate on Rock-A-Doodle. As a kid I loved every freaking minute of it. Personally, the movie wouldn't be half as interesting without the Grand Duke.
The Secret of NIMH - Very awesome. An American Tail - Awesome. The Land Before Time - Awesome. All Dogs Go To Heaven - Awesome. Rock-A-Doodle - Fun. Grand Duke is one of my favorite cartoon villains. Thumbelina - Meh, its alright. A Troll in Central Park - Haven't seen it. The Pebble And The Penguin - Barely remember it. Anastasia - Great, but not one of my favorites. Bartok the Magnificent - Haven't seen it. Titan A.E - Awesome and underrated.
The Secret of NIMH - Awesome An American Tail - Awesome The Land Before Time - Awesome All Dogs Go To Heaven - My favorite Rock-A-Doodle - The villain is Awesome Thumbelina - I only like Grundel A Troll in Centeral Park - Haven't seen it for years Pebble and the Penguin - Pretty Good Anastasia - Pretty Good Bartock the Magnifecent - Haven't seen it Titan A.E. - Haven't seen it
I haven't seen Bartok, but I've seen all the others and loved them. There will always be something to his works, in their art, imagination, and characters, that Disney will never be able to emulate.
An America Tail is definitely my favorite Don Bluth movie. All Dogs Go To Heaven and The Secret Of NIMH deserve honorable mentions as well. I loved those movies when I was a kid and I still love them now.
yeah its a murder of the entire russian monarchy about the girl who was never found alive or dead. a truely great thing to do an animation on and is done in the most childish fashin it could be done and looks briliant and plays out brilliantly even with the dark story nulled down so much. a dark past as a light future its as postive as it could be (with magic added in to be the darkness as kids dont see magic as pure evil like murder and blood would be)
thats the entire downside Dx i try not to link the actual story with the movie. the story in the movie is brilliant, because its a fairy tale. i don't link it with that tragedy at all, what happpened was horrible and makes my heart hurt, like what happened to my people in the holocaust. but the story of the movie is a sweeping dramatic romance thriller. the main heroine has a brain (yes!) and the hate of the villain is realistic. its just a creative story that is very easy to get swept up in.

Director Don Bluth was by far one of the greatest gods who ever lived (In the 80s). But in the 90s I think he left his brain at the food bar convention.
I love Don Bluth's animation and movies. My favorite movies he's made are The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven. Especially The Land Before Time. Wonderful tribute ponygon777! 10 out of 10.
The Secret of NIMH - Saw a little bit An American Tail - Very Good The Land Before Time - Good All Dogs Go To Heaven - Good Rock-A-Doodle - Saw a little bit, it's silly Thumbelina - Would've been better by Disney. Watch it for laughs A Troll in Central Park - I know this one but hardly remember anything The Pebble And The Penguin - Haven't seen it but looks silly Anastasia - Not bad but not the best from Don Bluth Bartok the Magnificent - Haven't seen it Titan A.E - Haven't seen it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I really feel sad how later Bluth's movies failed.Bluth is really a great animator but stupid reasons like marketing or finance problems or even intervention of those stupid investors prevent him from making successful movies.Just look at what Bluth can do with An American tail,The land before time or Anastasia, when he had good working condition.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The secret of NIMH:never saw that before, plan to An American tail:Very good movie Land before time:Damn I love it,love it,LOVE IT All dogs go to heaven:NOt good, not bad Rock-a-doodle:dont know dont care Thumbelina:Sweet,a little boring though Troll in central park:just watched it,it sucks Pebble and the penguin:simply suck Anastasia:Without the villian, this movie is perfect Bartok the Magnificent:Really dissapointed. Titan A.E:Very good movie.
dolphinluv2413, I love Don Bluth. But the Nostalgia Critic is right, films like Rock-a-Doodle, and Thumbelina are the worst cartoon movies I've seen. Sorry but I like Don Bluth's other films then those.
Yeah, you maybe right about that. Here how I find Don Bluth's films - The Secret of NIMH - Awesome - An American Tail - Very cute - Land Before Time - My favorite - All Dogs Go To Heaven - Pretty good - Rock-a-Doodle - Sucked - Thumbelina - Sucked - Troll in Central Park - Never saw that one - Pebble and the Penguin - Its okay, but I liked it - Anastasia - Gosh, I think I saw that one somewhere before. I can't remember - Bartok the Magnificent - Boring - Titan A.E. - Awesome
I agree with most of the things on that list, but (for one thing I haven't scene all of theme) I don't see what was so terrible about Thubelina? I mean, it's pretty weird, and that bird guy is strange, but otherwise I thought it was a cute movie and it certainly wasn't one of the worst cartoon movies I've scene! (thunderprince)
Probably he was better at animation than Disney was in the 80s. I'm not saying Disney made bad films of the 80s but his films were all fully animated and didn't use CGI like how some Disney films did. An American Tail is probably his best film he had done.
Actually I strongly agree with you.Don Bluth used to be the God of animation in the 80s.His movies had better animation, were more complex and really good for all ages.Faaar better than Disney.Until Disney smashed him in the ground with their 1989 hit The little mermaid and their 90s best animated movies of all time: (Beauty and the beast 1991,Aladdin 1992 and Lion king 1994).In the end he didn't stood a chance.
Don Bluth is such an underrated artist! And its sad that so many of his movies has bombed! Im sure that if they had the "Disney" Logo on them, they would all have been huge sucesses ...
His movies has made a lasting impression on me. I love to return to his movies now and then (often accompanied by my two cousins who are HUGE fans of Don bluth), and in diffirence from so much else that i watched in my childhood, Don Bluths work still affects me like it did decades ago!
No, actually it was an artistic differences falling out with the studio he was working with. He wanted to do 'his' films and they wanted to do 'his' films their way. He's living happily in a Southern State.
Yeah! The reasons Titan A.E did so badly was to do with 20th Century Foxs bad marketing, the movie should have been amended at young adults, but fox amended it at young children,
Aww man what happen to don bluth... He was one the greatest animators in 1980's but in the 1990's all the films he made were ethier bad or mediocore (Although the pebble and the penguin is an awesome film^_^)
Its so sad, i remember watching Anastasia, Troll of Central Park, and An American Tail all the time when I was little! So sad, I want to be a kid again ;_; (Titan AE is awesome ^^)
I'd love to be a multi-millionaire so I could re-open Bluth Sullivan studios and hire Gary Goldman, Johm Pomeroy and Don Bluth, and a load of animators. well, maybe in 10 years . . .
Don Bluth has created some incredible animations and it was a great priviledge to see most of his works in theaters, including the animated sequence from Xanadu. Secret of Nimh and Titan AE are my favorites. When I seen this tribute, I had thought he died and quickly did a search.
I know of Bluth's work with Disney but I just add the movies Don made independenly. and he did not make Swan Princess or Dinosaur's story, but his son, Virgil Bluth, did as a creative consultant and producer for both movies
Troll in Central Park 1994 I remember this old movie? I was a kid watching this film is was right this movie. Also An American Tail 1986 I remember this move for a long time ago.

And personally, I don't know why so many people hate on Rock-A-Doodle. As a kid I loved every freaking minute of it. Personally, the movie wouldn't be half as interesting without the Grand Duke.

I loved those movies when I was a kid and I still love them now.

its so interesting how anastasia, designed as a kids movie, isn't really "kiddish" at all .-.

yeah its a murder of the entire russian monarchy about the girl who was never found alive or dead. a truely great thing to do an animation on and is done in the most childish fashin it could be done and looks briliant and plays out brilliantly even with the dark story nulled down so much. a dark past as a light future its as postive as it could be (with magic added in to be the darkness as kids dont see magic as pure evil like murder and blood would be)
mibusuzaku 2 years ago
thats the entire downside Dx i try not to link the actual story with the movie. the story in the movie is brilliant, because its a fairy tale. i don't link it with that tragedy at all, what happpened was horrible and makes my heart hurt, like what happened to my people in the holocaust. but the story of the movie is a sweeping dramatic romance thriller. the main heroine has a brain (yes!) and the hate of the villain is realistic. its just a creative story that is very easy to get swept up in.

Director Don Bluth was by far one of the greatest gods who ever lived (In the 80s). But in the 90s I think he left his brain at the food bar convention.
dolphinluv2413 2 years ago
Don Bluth only made great movies in the 80s,But still nothing beats Disney.

I love Don Bluth's animation and movies. My favorite movies he's made are The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven. Especially The Land Before Time. Wonderful tribute ponygon777! 10 out of 10.

Don Bluth may have went down hill after All Dogs Go To Heaven,But that didn't stop him from making Great Villains.

dolphinluv2413, I love Don Bluth. But the Nostalgia Critic is right, films like Rock-a-Doodle, and Thumbelina are the worst cartoon movies I've seen. Sorry but I like Don Bluth's other films then those.

Or maybe those two movies only had two good things. The Grand Duke of Owls and the Toad with the clown suit.

My favorite would be be All Dogs Go To Heaven. I loved Carface and the Big-Lipped Alligator.
dolphinluv2413 2 years ago
I agree with most of the things on that list, but (for one thing I haven't scene all of theme) I don't see what was so terrible about Thubelina? I mean, it's pretty weird, and that bird guy is strange, but otherwise I thought it was a cute movie and it certainly wasn't one of the worst cartoon movies I've scene! (thunderprince)
Locke217 2 years ago 3
Well to be honest, I've only saw like 5-6 scenes in Thumblina. They were definitly strange but they were'nt horrible.

Probably he was better at animation than Disney was in the 80s. I'm not saying Disney made bad films of the 80s but his films were all fully animated and didn't use CGI like how some Disney films did. An American Tail is probably his best film he had done.

marcosementilli 2 years ago 5
I think the Best Disney movie of 80s was Great Mouse Detective.
dolphinluv2413 2 years ago 2
Yeah that one was good. The most well known of the 80s was The Little Mermaid.
marcosementilli 2 years ago 7

OtakuPraetorius 2 years ago 4
Even though I prefer Walt Disney I think Mr. Bluth's Best Movie of all time is All Dogs Go To Heaven.
dolphinluv2413 2 years ago
Well. He started with Disney and left them to start his own studio in the late 70s, I would love to see him back with a new movie, =)
BambiXmas 2 years ago
No, but after TITAN A.E failed and lost so much money, no one in the movie industry wants to touch him,
He is the moden day Walt Disney, and we will never see the like of him again, all his talent is just slipping away, its so said =(
BambiXmas 2 years ago
No, actually it was an artistic differences falling out with the studio he was working with. He wanted to do 'his' films and they wanted to do 'his' films their way. He's living happily in a Southern State.
EbbonChi 2 years ago
Realy! Im glad to kno he is ok, people keep telling me bad news about him, but there not fans of his anyway.
I would still love to see him back with a new movie, hes been away far to long, =)
BambiXmas 2 years ago 2
It's downright depressing if you ask me. Bluth's work is astounding, and he deserves respect.
And Titan A.E. was criminally underrated too.
atomofish 2 years ago 2
Yeah! The reasons Titan A.E did so badly was to do with 20th Century Foxs bad marketing, the movie should have been amended at young adults, but fox amended it at young children,

Banjo the Wood Pile Cat was directed by Bluth but this video is mainly for his motion pictures rather than his 30 minute specials or video games.

4. A Troll in Central Park'
5. Anastasia

you're missing two movies. The Swan Princess and We're Back! A Dinosaur's story. He's also made a couple with disney.
generationxyz 3 years ago
I know of Bluth's work with Disney but I just add the movies Don made independenly. and he did not make Swan Princess or Dinosaur's story, but his son, Virgil Bluth, did as a creative consultant and producer for both movies

You should've added the ones he made with Walt Disney too.
