How would Prof Watkins' respond to the argument that capitalism is rooted in racial oppression? When viewed from an intl perspective, the nations that are "underdeveloped" and/or exploited by capitalism have historically been those belonging to the "racialized other." This is appearent today in much of the business done by multi-nat corps. So when lawyers process transactions for such corps are they not facilitating this exploitation? And does this not undermine their own altruistic efforts?
What he's saying is that black people are the minority in this country, meaning if hypothetically every black person voted for Barack Obama in the election, we would not have a strong enough influence to put in the white house alone, because blacks make up about a little more than 20% of the total population. Remember, Obama won due to the heavier influence of the white voters.
