@rxiaxin the shift point in this game is the redline. If you're having trouble pulling away from corners, you've probably shredded your tyres or hit a wall or something.
i realised that you redlined your engine very often in the run, so i'm wondering... won't that damage the engine and cause you to accelerate slower in the later sections? and one more thing, i just did an upgrade on my AE86T today ( think it was electronic components step 3) and the shifting points totally changed... so can anyone give me an idea of approximately where the shifting points are? my car is 4-3-2-2-3 :P
@rxiaxin oh i see i thought you were talking about shifting points with the 4-3-2-2-4 really?? im sorry i commented about what i always see.. i see all the people shifting in red so i thought its all the same with isd4. unfortunately isd5 isnt in my place yet :l
@renticharlie hahas it's ok :) you should go try it, it will take some time to get used to if you're used to ID3, but in my opinion, it's a lot more fun compare to ID3 :)
yes Initial D is the arcade game that you can buy the card in to have your own car in the game.
Idk where'd you get the monthly fee idea about the card but once you buy the card, its all yours for $5 (AS4 & AS5 in USA) once you buy it at the machine
In Japan, you have to pay a monthly fee (of like $3 a month or something) to be able to customize your driver, play online, and tune your car more than one step at a time.
It's called Arcade Stage.. not Simulation stage... Anyone who thinks that driving a car is anything like this is delusional....
That said... It's so damn fun playing this game. I live in Japan, so I can play online. If there is a downside, its that 90% of challengers dont turn off the assist.. so it just becomes a mario-kart race...
Wow you got pretty good english for a person living in Japan, lol not to put anything against japanese people but English is only taught in a very basic form over there isnt it?
You'd be surprised that in real life, you'd be going at those hairpins at speeds of around 50km/h. If you tried cornering at 100km/h in real life, you'd be looking at instant death. hell, trying cornering at 80km/h would probably mean instant death in real life too. I hope they take away auto-drift in ID6, add a goddamn clutch, handbrake, and H shaped gearshift, and give a larger speed penalty for crashing.
Yeah but hes talking about a game.. And this is drifting not grip. If you hit that head on then yeah instant death but if you drift then hit You probally be in the hospital for a few days XD but not instant death.. Drifting is unsafe but u swerve out of the turn more instead of hitting it head on.
your time would improve drastically if you apexed and braked better. you take the inside line on more than half the turns, and your braking into the turns makes me fear for the lives of anyone in the car. thats just my opinion, but I guess games like this arent exactly realistic. =P
thats amazing. He'll still be faster in 2 weeks than he is now, just like everyone else. so ver5 physics=take the inside line and brake into the turns? That seems pretty silly to me. Even so, I assume that as he adapts to ver5 and his line evolves, it'll begin to resemble a more natural racing line. Otherwise it would suggest the developers intentionally broke away from real physics in a game based on a show that tries to stay true to life, but I guess games like this arent exactly realistic. =P
He takes the inside line on a lot of the turns, because of the gutter. At least that's what it looks like. It's supposed to make cornering at higher speeds easier.
I'm not surprised, cause I race in amateur events and circuits all the time. =P I graduated from ID3 to real racing and drifting back in 2004, so I understand how rediculous ID3 was and how impossible the speeds that you could achieve in the game were, but atleast in ID3 you weren't rewarded with a better time for taking an obviously slower line. -.-
As for the gutters, they should help you go faster by creating a banking effect on the 2 inside tires, allowing gravity to counter the centripetal forces of turning slightly, and increasing the normal force experienced by those tires, increasing friction, and thus traction, slightly. This theoretically allows you to corner at speeds that exceed the normal friction of the road and tires.
My turn to say, I'm not surprised, I'm pretty savvy with physics, lol (plus I've watched the entire series of Initial D). Wouldn't guttering eventually cause some trouble with wheel alignment (among other things) though?
It would, even for extremely well tuned and equipped cars, not to mention if you enter it wrong, you'll either get thrown out and understeer to your death or atleast out of contention, or you'll hit the curb and destroy your car. if you exit it wrong, you'll get pulled in or it'll cause extreme oversteer or understeer, depending on the conditions.
The problem in real life with using gutters like this is the unpredictable build up of dirt, leaves, and other particles in them which reduces the coefficient of friction combined with the rediculously small margin of error for the timing and line needed to use them effectively. This is all beside the fact, however, that taking a normal apex line will be faster and less strenuous to the tires than taking the inside line using the gutter to achieve a speed faster than you could normally take it.
I'd agree with you if we were talking about Battlegear 4 Tuned, which has a more realistic steering wheel range, realistic physics, clutch, handbrake, etc.. where you'd need to control your car and choose lines more or less like you would in real life. However, this is Initial D, a game known for unreal physics, auto-drift, and going around tight hairpins at 80km/h. ID5 is already a huge improvement on 4, where you could practically turn without braking, or steering for that matter.

@rxiaxin what do you mean 43224? :l everyone shifts at the redlines dude.. unlike d3 :l or is it diff in d5?

@renticharlie 4-3-2-2-4:
engine, drivetrain etc: STEP 4
intake/exhaust, cooling system: STEP 3
suspension, wheels: STEP 2
body: STEP 2
electronic components: STEP 4
and everytime i try redlining the engine, the engine seems to lag alot after i shift gears... nevermind, you haven't played d5 yet have you?

well can we put it into simple terms?
u tire gets locked into the gutter and its like a train attached to its rails from there then as u come out u unlock from the turn :D
