It is the Hindu poverty that gets hurt the most when Hindu temples get taxed. A large percent of India's poor wait by the temples for food and help. Why congress does not promote family planning in muslim community? I've seen family where only one person, of course husband, earn around 1-2Lakh/annum and have 5-6 kids. How will that man give quality education and lifestyle to his family. And they crib about almost everything. They dont' allow girls to work as well. 2hamer, the temples being taxed did not help India, it hurt it. If you been to South India, you would see, there are rows of poor people waiting outside of the temples. I don't see any government truck coming by to help. I see the temple feeding them. And the temples feed these people the little amount they had. If they were actually allowed to keep their money, the temples would be helping the poor instead of the money getting lost in some bureaucracy called Indian government.

Family planning does not exist where poverty persists..there is a direct relationship. In villages and in the slums in India, all poor people have many children. State governments have appointed managers to the boards of temples in the name of better administration, while mosques and churches are completely autonomous.This Act allowed the state governments and politicians to take over thousands of Hindu temples and maintain complete control over these temples and their property. 34,000 temples get taxed 82% to 85% of their earnings.

And the temples just don't have enough food or facilities to help the poor in India. Instead the money is stolen by the Indian government to feed its bureaucracy. 2hamer, the temples being taxed did not help India, it hurt it. If you been to South India, you would see, there are rows of poor people waiting outside of the temples. I don't see any government truck coming by to help. I see the temple feeding them. And the temples feed these people the little amount they had. If they were actually allowed to keep their money, the temples would be helping the poor instead of the money getting lost in some bureaucracy called Indian government.

Since you are worried about family planning. Why dont you try researching the topic from objective worldly resources. Family planning is a direct result of an educated middle class! Family planning does not exist where poverty persists..there is a direct relationship. In villages and in the slums in India, all poor people have many children. In fact, let me take that further, Africa and South America too have similar issues, and the issues only exist amongst the poor!! make sense??

2hamer, that is total BS. Go to majority muslim nations, which are well above the poverty line, and even they have well over 3 kids. In America, many of the muslims have well over 3 kids, and these are the muslims who are educated with masters and PHDs. Don't give me some generalized BS about it only being a poor issue. Besides, the Indian government does preach to Hindu poor not to have more than one or two kids, but it does not preach to the muslim poor.

From where they get money to build big mosques, to which even police and military don't have access. I actually sympathise with muslims. Because Im a muslim girl. keaesha19, excellent points. Some of my good friends are Indian muslims and ex-muslims. They all agree, one of the biggest problems in India is the appeasement for muslims. All this money is wasted on one minority group when the whole of India can be helped. Even my muslim friends think the Sharia laws in India is nonsense. They think it should be a personal thing, not something government funded and promoted. They understand, for India to move forward it must be under one law.

What the India government is doing to Hindu temples is the same thing as Jizia that muslim nations impose on non-muslims. The Indian government is acting like an islamic state. So what if most of India's individuals are not paying taxes? That is not an excuse to tax temples and be prejudice to one group.

I'm not proposing to give the temples any extra funds. I just want to make things equal. I just want no taxation on any religious institution, and no government help for any religious institution. But for some reason you feel it is ok to persecute Hindus. Why do you feel that way?

As the British were leaving, they also forced the Indians to include in their constitution reservations of at least two seats for people who are mixed Indian and British blood. Now as an American, I would be pretty pissed off if there was a clause that says at least "X" number of seats must be reserved for white people. It is just racist.

State governments have appointed managers to the boards of temples in the name of better administration, while mosques and churches are completely autonomous.This Act allowed the state governments and politicians to take over thousands of Hindu temples and maintain complete control over these temples and their property. 34,000 temples get taxed 82% to 85% of their earnings.
