This woman's an idiot. Easy for her to say, ''Christians don't have a choice, they cant denounce their Christianity even to save their life...blah blah blah.'' Easier said than done. Would she be able to say that if she were the one w/a gun to her head?
Besides, that's the problem with religion. Any ''faith'' that instructs you to die is just ludicrous. America's obsession w/religion is gonna be our downfall.
What you have in The Bible is to horrible concepts, one you can listen to a man like say Moses, tell you what god desires and act on it when its obviously to your benefit regardless of mercy or injustice.
Next Jesus gives the out door the escape from the responsibility to be moral and or ethical creatures by just saying believe in me as if that would really undo one dam horrible deed done
Christians can like it or not that is the deal.
Those that prosper such should be mocked and disgraced !
I follow a aboriginal animistic religion and I am not a secularist/atheist/agnostic... I would never feel safe for me or my daughters very life or future in a non-secularized nation.
I pardon the pun thank god spirit above for the fore-mentioned secularist, because of men like Bill Maher and many others is only real only defense against insane religious zealots like the ones that ruled this nation early on by ethnic cleansing, theft, rape, and sadistic and may they be damned for all times.
It's insane for these people to claim religion doesn't advocate violence, when the specific religions they belong to are the most violent religions that have ever existed. It is how they became big.
If they truly believe their religions don't advocate violence, then they can't claim their religions advocate anything. Then it must all be down to what the people choose to do.
For what it's worth, Jesus Camp doesn't advocate the kind of Christianity portrayed in the movie. It just kind of presents it--pretty objectively, actually.
I found the movie pretty disturbing, but because of what's presented in the movie, not b/c of any viewpoints the movie itself takes.
The woman on panel is such a moron. "It's not normal to lay down your life for your friends." Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of people who've done that for friends or PERFECT STRANGERS in history. "We can't do anything but profess Jesus as lord even if they'll cut off our heads." How about the deafening silence of a god who either cannot or will not save one of his "beloved" children from a gruesome murder?
i agree with the Muslim guy, that people are actually the problem . but i do think that religion is bad much more then good and it would be better off without it. not perfect, but better.
Her mistake is to present her own understanding of Christianity as somehow more legit than that of those who kill for god etc. She claims that the slaughter of the crusades is not in accordance with God's teachings, but according to the Church, it IS.
that women is a total idiot, Christianity is the only radical religion, "only Christians would lay their lives for a friend" has she ever heard of Jainism, a religion that practices total non-violence. Who's members sweep the ground they walk on so's not to kill insects. Who's members who would never hurt a single living animal.
1000 years ago there were more people who believed the earth was flat than people who believed it was spherical, but that didn’t make them right. Religion is a sham, and anyone with a brain can see right through it.
The problem with that movie is they were preaching that we need a new government, that will have evangelicals in power and teach creationism in our schools. they also dont believe in science in any regard and are dangerous by hindering a childs ability to critically think for themselves. I think their teachings are almost as radical as muslims, and should be looked at with more scrutiny
@skralogy It would seem from your comments that you haven't met many muslims.... not saying they aren't also nuts for believing in a friend in the sky, but "radical"? About as radical as any Xtians you've met...
@decibel333 I say that be because we seem to only see muslims as radicals, a viewpoint i dont share, most are very peaceful its just the militant ones we are afraid of. but if we are going to go oversees and fight a small group of people that some deem dangerous to our way of life then why dont we look at radical groups in our own country that are indoctrinating our children with radical ideas. thats all i meant
I like Bill Maher and find his comments fairly spot on but I do have some arguments. I recently rewatched the Jesus Camp movie and I think people took some of what Becky Fischer said to literally. She was in no way suggesting that we strap kids with bombs. I think she was talking about how important religion is in other countries where in the States we tend to get more excited over a concert or sporting event than we do our religious beliefs, arguably one of the most important aspects of life.
theres a gap between belief and knowledge! what ! how does this actor know this ? it is knowledge or just his belief, that theres is a gap between the two
we all possess beliefs ! even this actor ! the very statement he makes is a belief!
the important thing is to compare your beliefs to the reality that surrounds you
bill maher agrees that its not religion thats dangerous but its people, he therefore must defend why he belives people are dangerous. what is the reason for this dangerous nature person possess? so the real issue therefore is not to put all your energy ( as Ive seen maher do) into condemning and mocking religion. he should put his effort into understanding human nature and why humans are " dangerous " as he says. If he did that He would find that Christ provided answer -- sinful nature
bill maher is wrong -- the pastor lady in the film is not saying that christ followers are losing the radical piety battle. the point the pastor lady is making is that kids are always going to be trained by their environment. and she wants to train them to love as christ has loved
as well, mr maher says this film disturbs him. I wonder if he is just as disturbed at mainstreem hollywood movies that glorify sex and violence! does he care about that. that our youth is molded by violent film
There's this thing called a rating system. Movies that incorporate sex and violence don't target children, they target a more mature audience. Now kids being attracted to forbidden things, that's a completely different matter. However, this Jesus Camp psycho movie doesn't spare children, it targets them as well.
@michaelsnoha3 " I wonder if he is just as disturbed at mainstreem hollywood movies that glorify sex and violence!" - Those movies are fiction. Big difference. What's disturbing him (and me) is how these people can think it's ok to brainwash little kids like that for real.
@mudgtarvayne13 I know she's a total fucking bitch!! To say that she has a truth that other people don't have, that's just fucking arrogant!! How the hell does she know the truth??
@gr8Sweetfox and because you said sorry its a sign that you are not that bad that i thought of. Which means that you are nice and that we dont have to talk to each other like that.
@gr8Sweetfox Well ok then let's get to the jist of things. Can you kindly tell me who Jesus is (to you)? Was He God manifested in the flesh? Fully God? or maybe He was something different to you? If you like, you can share, if not... I will respect that too. thanx
Religion is obsolete, kids. We have enough science and intellect to let go of mythology and spilling blood in its name. I have humanity. I don't someone's book to strive for peace, love and understanding. MYTHology.
The debate over meaning is not necessarily a hiding place Evangelicals retreat to when confronted with charges of hypocrisy. It is a legitimate discussion that must take place when a text is interpreted. Look at our own debate over the constitution. The two debates are very similar in many respects.
I agree, you can say that Jesus was a good teacher and accurate in some, but not all, of the things he said. Nothing contradictory there. But saying he has "some good teachings" is different from saying he was a messenger of God. Saying nice things doesn't make someone a messenger of God. I believe he was a messenger of God because I believe God actually sent him. Likewise, the Dalai Lama should not be ignored. But correct views on some things does not make him a messenger of God.
I believe in inspiration, and that the grammatical-historical hermeneutic is the correct way to determine meaning. The word "literal" can define many positions. You have the literal meaning (which is close to authorial intent), but there is also the question of application. In what way does the Bible apply today? What are the cultural factors that bear on interpretation and application? Is authorial intent always exactly equal to divine intent? These are questions you can't sidestep.
I suppose somebody could claim that Jesus is a messenger from God, while not believing what he said. But isn't that the height of foolishness? John 14:6 is not the only thing Jesus says about himself. You yourself are condemning people for being "cherry pickers."
If you are a Christian, and are commenting on whether or not Sandy should be able to voice her opinion, keep in mind that these injunctions limit the woman's role in the church, not the public square.
If you are not a Christian, and are trying to point out misogyny in the Bible, keep in mind that you are not taking into account the cultural context of the New Testament, which is surprisingly liberating when placed against Greco-Roman standards.
Jesus is nt the real god,Jesus is a messenger from god, use ur mind, how can a human be the creator of all things,I am a muslim and i admir jesus as we belief that he is a messenger from god
Christian theology does not claim that Jesus was human in the same way you and I are human. It claims that Jesus was God incarnate in human flesh. There is nothing problematic about this. Could Allah not incarnate himself as a human being, if he chooses, or is this impossible for him? Don't claim that Jesus is a messenger from God if you don't believe his message.
Christianity is hypocritical. I could make everything that woman said sound wrong. She is a fanatic herself, I'm an Atheist and I need no one to save me. Especially when that nobody doesn't exist.
I agree with the woman on the point that they should not have denied their faith. If they truely believe then they have denied Jesus, just like Peter. I think the 3 guys were rather rude to her and unfair and this is coming from an atheist. I'm sorry but I equate this with Fox News. They made some good points, but they are forcing their beliefs on her, just like Evangelicals...
Being religious is one thing, being wise in your religion is something else. It is not "religious" people that are the problem, it is the extremists. It is those people who condemn others for their beliefs that are the problem. I am christian but I would never do some things to people, that other "Christians" do. I just believe.
I feel sorry for the husband of the woman on the show. He probably never got a blowjob from her because BJs are against Christian values. Maybe that's why Christians file for divorce like crazy.
Good stuff. Maher makes the argument that Sandy thinks he is lesser than her because he doesn't believe what she believes. Too bad she didn't figure out that his own argument works against him as well and asked him if he thinks less of her for her beliefs. No Maher, you don't get it, Reza at least does.
I hate how the morons in the audience applaud before someone even has a chance to make a point. It's like they don't understand but think they understand. That a conversation like this could even take place (the norm appeard to be to believe in God... not disbelief) in a modern country like America is scary. Jesus camp in particular, is scary.
agreed! i found out many years ago, the best way to truly be pure and decent is to strip away all pretention. which is the definition of all religion. now it's just down to us two who is truly better. LOL
You know they have a very strong belief in what they think is the reason for the universe and life.. but it just warps their sense of "reality". This goes for all religion, Muslim, Hindu, buddhists, the only one I think is relatively sane is Shintoism. But I wish these people didn't ruin it for the rest of us.
Vavictus, Hitler believed in social evolution and also formed a religion around himself. German students in school made a pledge\prayer to him every morning. Your Russian comment wasn't complete, it was spun like the media you so enjoy. Stalin persecuted all religious people in his country, he killed 40 million+ for being different or religious.
I love the people on either side who know what they are talking about and have obviously thought their ideas through. Watch the idiot actor spout Post-Modern Hollywood spirituality. Haha
Great point made by Reza. Fantastic, yet, totally obvious, yet also ignored on a daily basis by people who know better. Maybe if we all just remembered that, there wouldn't be such huge flame wars and hate on the net. (of which the vast majority seem to be an assumption made on someone else because of their faith, usually incorrectly)
Religion is a tool in spiritual pursuit. Sure, maybe it was laid down by the One, maybe it wasn't. It doesn't matter. We first need to realise the importance of tolerance, cooperation, respect and compassion. Then use whatever prophet, boddhisatva or prayer you feel will help you deepen those desires of love. Religion is not for telling others they are wrong. It is for helping you to follow what others help you realise is already right.
Was this video on Politically Incorrect before it was canceled? Go BILL. That show was cancelled I believe because of Bill's discussion on what was or was not cowardly about certain "military" tactics. But can cancelation of the show was certainly cowardly.
we are not to worship people like the president but we need to worship God and if the oppertunity comes that we have a choice to deny God then we will know if we are Christians we need to lay out lives down for him
Bechy Fisher needs to step back and see that what she's doing is just what the fanatics in the Middle East do. There is no difference, and shame on the parents who allow this crazed fat bitch to do this to their children. She should use her time to slim down. Gluttony is a sin.
As a christian m offended by jesus camp. I am pissed by evangelists, the church, the bible, the pope telling me wat to do. Y cant people be allowed to think for themselves. Y do v need others to tell us wat r religion teaches us or whr christianity is going. and this Becky Fisher is jus some fat bitch who is lonely and needs a f*ck.
Just sit back in a reclusive area for a while, let these fanatics kill each others including Bush and his neo-cons buddies, and than the world will better off...
I'm actually in agreement with these Christians; I can't wait for Jesus to return! Because that's when the Rapture will happen, and all these fanatical, hateful and intolerant Evangelicals will be GONE!!
Are you aware that they seek to improve the chances of the rapture by working towards the end of civilisation by ignoring the environment (see Jesus Camp) as well as hoping for a nuclear war (see Rapture websites)?
Yes, I am aware of this. However, this would be against not only the rest of our 1st Amendment Rights, but also their very own rhetoric. I mean, really, according to their own talking points, since when does God care about those who aren't "saved?"
Correct me if i'm wrong but why would they care about the amendment when they can go to their God, and they expect to be among the chosen, obviously. At that moment life will be less pleasant for the remaining people, even though it will be quite nice with the absence of the Evangelicals. But I'm sure the next 'chosen' sects will pop up everywhere.
That's assuming that i don't get it!!! that's what i always want to say to my goofy christian friends

SinnerJesus 5 years ago
you are very wrong about that. christian women are the best in bed, much more passion than anywhere else you can find
kotarak 5 years ago

Jesus camp in particular, is scary.

i have absolutely no respect for anybody who is religious. If you are religious i think im better than u

agreed! i found out many years ago, the best way to truly be pure and decent is to strip away all pretention. which is the definition of all religion. now it's just down to us two who is truly better. LOL

Christians are so stupid.
Eriksz 5 years ago
Not stupid, just logically impaired.
mlite89 5 years ago
You know they have a very strong belief in what they think is the reason for the universe and life.. but it just warps their sense of "reality". This goes for all religion, Muslim, Hindu, buddhists, the only one I think is relatively sane is Shintoism. But I wish these people didn't ruin it for the rest of us.
Eriksz 5 years ago
"ruin it for the rest of us" i just wish that atheists like hitler, mao, and stalin didn't ruin it for the rest of us.
ricardomiguelsanchez 5 years ago
hitler the christian you mean ;)
And all the germans were christians under him. So were most of the Russian by the way. Nice try though.
vavictus 5 years ago
Vavictus, Hitler believed in social evolution and also formed a religion around himself. German students in school made a pledge\prayer to him every morning. Your Russian comment wasn't complete, it was spun like the media you so enjoy. Stalin persecuted all religious people in his country, he killed 40 million+ for being different or religious.

That "Jesus Camp" lady should be put away on child abuse charges. The children she psychologically abuses at the camp will be screwed up for life!

Christians are condescending pricks. Bill Maher hits the nail on the head.

RageDeRuin 5 years ago

I'm actually in agreement with these Christians; I can't wait for Jesus to return! Because that's when the Rapture will happen, and all these fanatical, hateful and intolerant Evangelicals will be GONE!!
weeksie21 5 years ago
Are you aware that they seek to improve the chances of the rapture by working towards the end of civilisation by ignoring the environment (see Jesus Camp) as well as hoping for a nuclear war (see Rapture websites)?
MrFacet 4 years ago 2
Yes, I am aware of this. However, this would be against not only the rest of our 1st Amendment Rights, but also their very own rhetoric. I mean, really, according to their own talking points, since when does God care about those who aren't "saved?"
weeksie21 4 years ago
Correct me if i'm wrong but why would they care about the amendment when they can go to their God, and they expect to be among the chosen, obviously. At that moment life will be less pleasant for the remaining people, even though it will be quite nice with the absence of the Evangelicals. But I'm sure the next 'chosen' sects will pop up everywhere.
