November 4th used to be the Victory Day in Italy...in WWI, but it did not bring us much fortune, considering the outcome of WWII (an outcome we utterly deserved!)
Yes, this is nearly 40 years old, and STILL ahead of anything out NOW. This series was so ahead of its time, and as a kid,i loved this series more than anything else. Now, I'm let's say, much older lol.. and this is a charm. And in many ways, the creators were not far from reality, as I think that space borne ships will carry lots of familiar features present on modern day ships.
On the TV show Babylon 5 the Earth Alliance placed battle satellites around the Earth as a last ditch effort to stop Membari. The creators of B5 payed homage to a lot of old sci fi, it would not surprise me if they had been inspired by this episode.
I remember the English versions of Starblazers, they weren't so bad. True, the the robot's harassment, Sado's drinking problem, the language and graphic kill scenes were deleted, but the spirit of the show was kept to a decent extent.
Compared this to the travesty of how the Digimon series was reduced from serious young-adult to pure pablum kiddie-fare by FoxKIDS (and not so-badly later on by ABC/Disney) to make it an easier sell to their toy and kid-food sponsors and see for yourself...
I disagree. While the censored bits were unfortunate, they did a damn fine job translating SBY into SB. They injected a lot of character quality. It's really apparent when you compare the translation job to what they did for Yamato III (which appears to be more of a straight translation).
Woah, sorry 'bout the multiple posts. The 'post comment' button wasn't responding, so I clicked it a bunch of times. Didn't know that would happen. Anyway, season 2 is great, but the movie, which this season is based on, is awesome and the ending is superior. To me, Arrivederci Yamato is the quintessential Yamato and I ignore all the sequels that follow it.

Actually, this is not accurate. Yamato was the emergency flagship (after the admiral's cruiser was killed by US subs Dace & Darter) at the battle off Samar but never effectively engaged the American CVEs, DDs & DEs. Torpedos sent her wide. The most effective Japanese battleships in both this battle & during the war overall were the old, upgraded Kongo-class up-armored battlecruisers. Yamato was a superb design except she lacked speed. 27-28 knots was not adequate for engaging anything in WWII.
It wasn't her speed that was the problem. Her captain during that battle was paranoid about attacks from American planes so he retreated from an escort carrier and a few DDs when only 30 planes were spotted. Had the Yamato and Musashi been used properly, they could have done a lot of damage. Yamato had the best optical range finders and night fighting capability of any ship in WW2. She was also more maneuverable than Iowa.
De3spite my great respect for Yamato & Mushashi I must dispute. They simply lacked the tactical speed, radar & support capacity of the Iowas, which were more narrow but had greater speed (33-35 knots) & doubled the Yamato class for volume.
Granted, only an idiot would have made a game of it. ;)

True. Turning radius of about 640 feet (Yamato) to 800 feet (Iowa), but the speed was a crucial factor combined with the difference between US radar & Japanese optical range-finders (both excellent, but the latter comparatively inadequate). Frankly, the most effective Japanese BBs in WWII were the upgraded Kongo class BC/BBs. Japanese cruisers were also incredibly effective. Yamato & Musashi needed about 3 more knots...
That's true. And not being able to keep up with a carrier force is also a problem for a slower BB. Her hull was capable of 31 knots, however the IJN equipped her with engines only capable of propelling her to 27.5 knots. Strange...
Yamato & Musashi & originaly ben planned for 30 knots or so (notice how in Ep II her spped is rated at "27 knots"). Cutbacks, I believe, were the problem, combined with logistical confusion. IMHO, The most effective big IJN warships in WWII were the heavy cruisers & the (brilliantly) ramped up Kongo class BC/BBs. IF HMS Hood had received the loving attention the Kongos received she would have made meat out of the German fleet. Those 15"42s were just plain sweet. ;)
It's fucking worthless pieces of shit like you that who can't even type English properly and use racist comments show how fucking retarded you clearly are. If you knew anything about the historical and technological significance of the Yamato Class Battleship you would be singing a different tune. It's typical of morons like you who make Americans seem like morons (which for the most part they aren't) because if you didn't build it bigger and better then it must be inferior.

There is a few idiots who made a game with those ships in it. SD Enternet's NavyField game.

The Yamato is no match to a Terran Battlecruiser, and the Terran Battlecruiser is no match to a Protoss Mothership

Then again without Yamato, Terran Battlecruiser will have different name for the powerful on shot attack eh?
