I have read most of the stories published and there has been many, many inconsistencies. I don't judge with out knowing all the facts and although I am deeply sorry about her lost I don't believe what she has to say. The child was alive for an hour and 23 min from what news papers say. So CPR wouldn't have worked and the mom had said she had already received it n had an oxygen tank on. I think she should focus on making her piece. Money n lies is not going to bring her happiness.
This is sad, the cop should serve time for this because this ,to me is a crime. On the other hand, the mother should have purchased and inhaler and told her to carry it with her in case she has an asthma attack especially after playing in the park. Or the mother could have carried it in her purse just in case she couldn't make it to the hospital in time. @ziggerification This was probably the kid's first asthma attack, not all children are diagnosed before the age of 10, I had no clue I had asthma until I was 6, and CPR is what saved my life. The mom probably also didn't have a cellphone on her, and even if she did, she didn't want to be a sitting duck, as they say "The police are just minutes away when seconds count." She did what any good mother would do, and she took a wrong turn, not like police do that every day in chases, oh nooooo.

cops are trained in cpr. Cops are also trained to know how to handle situations of crisis and guide people to the appropriate medical facilities. If he didn't know what to do because he is not a doctor, obviously he is not a cop either because those two things are required. I'm not a doctor (yet) and I know cpr because it is apart of my job to know it and treat patients. I cannot fathom why you would try to explain his behavior. He deserves to be put under a jail and now
For those who don't know, once you are taught CPR you need to be re-certified every year to do it again... NYPD doesn't doesn't re-certify cops every year so doing CPR without would equal what the parents want = lawsuit.

If the cop was ignorant he would have given her CPR and killed her faster, you don't give CPR to someone suffering from an asthma attack [the civilian who gave her CPR probably did so and thats why she died an HOUR later after getting to the hospital.

I think the moral to this story is to learn CPR first, and second don't stop for a police officer on your way to the hospital, no matter what because they are not going to help. If the cop helped and the child died, the police department would probably get sued anyway.

@ziggerification This was probably the kid's first asthma attack, not all children are diagnosed before the age of 10, I had no clue I had asthma until I was 6, and CPR is what saved my life. The mom probably also didn't have a cellphone on her, and even if she did, she didn't want to be a sitting duck, as they say "The police are just minutes away when seconds count." She did what any good mother would do, and she took a wrong turn, not like police do that every day in chases, oh nooooo.

cops are trained in cpr. Cops are also trained to know how to handle situations of crisis and guide people to the appropriate medical facilities. If he didn't know what to do because he is not a doctor, obviously he is not a cop either because those two things are required. I'm not a doctor (yet) and I know cpr because it is apart of my job to know it and treat patients. I cannot fathom why you would try to explain his behavior. He deserves to be put under a jail and now

For those who don't know, once you are taught CPR you need to be re-certified every year to do it again... NYPD doesn't doesn't re-certify cops every year so doing CPR without would equal what the parents want = lawsuit.
