This has to be one of the most exciting comedy/dramas I have ever watched in my life. The great cast they have also made it that much more exciting. A great video clip here! I first saw this movie in 1979 at the age of 14 and I have loved it ever since!

If anyone wants to read the TRUE story of this incident, it's in a book called NAZI GOLD by Ian Sayer and Douglas Botting and it's DYNAMITE! Each man actually took home something in the neighborhood of $16,000,000.00 (that's EACH!) in 1945 dollars, too.
I would argue (to the death) that this is the greatest world war 2 movie ever made, and that ever will be made!!! The action is great, the final attack on the village and bank is a superb scene, the cast is magnificent and depite being funny as fuck it manages to be serious at the same time...... top moment - paint shells at a tiger tank and oddballs face following this lol moment!!!

And besides the Germans were likely busy moving along to care about their surroundings when tired enough. Soldiers on the march can be like that.
I don't like Clint Eastwood normally, but perhaps i haven't given him a fair chance. I rented this movie a short while ago in an attempt to create a sort of level of knowledge with someone i know. A sort of commonground thing...and i groaned at finding CE was the star, but i was in tears laughing by the end and am now gonna purchase it so i can watch it whenever i wish. :-)
@OneBigRetard I'm not a sir for a start...and i just didn't like him. He's not really the type of person i wanna watch. I don't go for already acclaimed people very often. It was never to say that he wasn't talented; just not someone i'd watch.
Everyone I have not been introduced to is a 'sir'. It is a mark of respect until I am familiar. I don't give a shit whether people are acclaimed or not. It does not affect my judgement.
@OneBigRetard I hadn't seen it; or any of his films before to judge anyway. I'm 21 i was a CHILD when i made my mind up. i can't know whether everything i've done, said or thought as a child is with or without reason.
Yes, it is a standard line in most armies. The other variation being "Don't call me Sir, I work for a living.".
However, being as I have not been made aware of this character's non-commissioned officer status he shall as a stranger be called Sir. Or Cock, Depending on what I consider the more accurate.
As any enlisted man would expect walking into a restaurant in civilian dress.
@aniseedrock23250 I totally understand what you're saying about Eastwood, and the fact is he's bland in Kelly's Heroes, which would've been a very good movie with or without him.
Von Ryan's Express and Darker of the Sun/The Mercenaries were both great train wartime movies.
This movie is so cool on so many levels. Watch closely, and you'll see that the town Kelly drives through in the opening credits (in the dark) is the same one with the gold at the end of the movie. The bell tower is actually pretty prominent in a couple of shots.
I've also read that the 3 Tiger tanks were modified Russian T-34's used in "The Battle of Neretva" and further modified for this film. One source has them also being used in "Saving Pvt Ryan." Not sure if that's true...
Here's a funny story. A while ago I wanted to watch this so I borrowed my dad's copy. A friend came over and I asked him if he has ever seen Kelly's Heroes. He asked, is that the one about a train, everyone on a train? I said no. It's not about a train. Nothing to do with that. It's kind of like Three Kings. Then a few weeks later I was at a different friends house looking at his DVD collection. I asked him if he had ever seen Kelly's Heroes and he asked: Is that the one about the train? What?
@nellgwen48 They may have been thinking of Von Ryan's Express, which is up there on my short list of best WW II movies along with Kelly's Heroes, Band of Brothers, Shindler's List among others.
@hardcorehouse Thanks for responding because I was wondering what movie they were thinking of. I don't know if I've ever seen Von Ryan's Express, or if I've ever seen it all the way through. For a lighter side of WW2 check out the movie The Man Who Never Was. A true story but not a story about combat or the Holocaust. It's a smart peppy little movie that moves right along and as soon as you're bored with it it's over. A definite popcorn movie.
Probably my favorite opening scene of any war movie. Getting stuck in a German traffic jam, then driving right through the German army--what a concept! It's well filmed, and the theme song, while seemingly an odd choice, fits perfectly.
@Bemused46 Yeah, that situation is the ultimate piss take haha, absolutely love this movie, always have done ever since I first watched it. I never get bored of it either
There's another movie that was made by the same production company as this one. It's a western called: There Was a Crooked Man. It stars Kirk Douglas and Henry Fonda. If you see it, you'll notice similarities between this movie and that one...mainly the music. It was also made in 1970.
This is a pretty bizarre and funny opening scene for a war movie, especially the song by the Mike Curb Congregation "Burning Bridges." Being I was only 14 years old when I first saw it, I really had to get used to it being I had seen only the classic and traditional war films. Great movie!
Every one of you motherfuckers represent the most pathetic group of losers I've ever encountered on Youtube. This shit is in the top three of the WORST movies I've ever seen. I hope the Mike Curb Congregation comes to all your houses and gives you the most painful fist fuck you've ever had. Best line is guy to Rickles: "You all smell like a dung heap" Rickles: "Yeah kinda like your house." I add: "And this movie."
Clint Eastwood didn't like this movie because of how it got edited. I love the movie and am really curious as to how he would have done it differently
this is one of my favourites i used to watch on TCM. many thanks for uploading man. i got loads of original videomoviesi would like to share with you guys on youtube. but wat about the rights, can someone help me please ,many tanks.
@vincentcarp6 Check out section 107 of the copyright laws regarding "fair use". If you include it as a disclaimer in your upload information, you might get away with the uploads. Now, the movie, one of the greatest pieces of entertainment going. How many realize that Telly is talking to his real brother on the phone. Mulligan is George Savalas. I love the term "fat sausage-chewing wino". LOLOL
Love it but after about 20 times I did catch a couple bloopers. The CJ2A in a WW2 flick?? The empty boxes under the canvas, and here is the big one. After they blow the doors of the bank you see Kelly and crew walk through the doors, and Cowboy and others come from somewhere to his right.
@CUDDLES67 For a Western war movie, try "They Came to Cordura" which Wayne didn't like (and may have tried to supress) because it showed that so-called hero soldiers could have character flaws then Wayne goes and directs the shitty Alamo. For WWII, the Longest Day and 12 O'Clock High kinda hold up.
I watched this movie on TV the other day but I had to leave about halfway through. I missed the part where the Shermans come busting out of tunnel and play I've Been Working on the Railroad. I won't miss it this time :)
@RifledBarrel how does your cursing relate to me or the movie? i'm Russian you idiot! dont assume that everyone whos smarter than you is a yanky or some other stupid name. Do something more useful with your time rather than criticizing others for what you think they are
@RifledBarrel Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous, and hopeful for a change?
can't really notic it in this clip, but antone ever notice how when te kraut looks @ kelly Clint nods his head just before he starts blowing his whistle?!?! Goddamit this is my favourite film - ever
yeah, this is one of the major under-rated films of that decade. yet everyone I know who has seen it says it's an all-time fav, and it's very hard to find video copies anywhere
looks like the Hollywood marketing focus groups still can't figure this one out--ripe for a redux release at all the cult theaters.
Found it at walmart XD TMC 4 pack reg dvd you get Kellys heroes, Where eagles dare, the dirt dozen, battleground. for just 12 bucks XD shame that A bridge to far wasnt on it.
Even if Clint was an Idiot, which I agree with you.. He's still got that one thing going for him.. that evil scare that scares the meanest of the mean and children alike... the angry prune face and those dead stare eyes Lol.
i was watching this when i was 5 and i still love it

Then a few weeks later I was at a different friends house looking at his DVD collection. I asked him if he had ever seen Kelly's Heroes and he asked: Is that the one about the train? What?

@nellgwen48 They may have been thinking of Von Ryan's Express, which is up there on my short list of best WW II movies along with Kelly's Heroes, Band of Brothers, Shindler's List among others.
hardcorehouse 1 year ago

Thanks!

LOLOL

best war movie is between this & Where Eagles Dare.

Actually I think this IS the best war movie ever!!
CUDDLES67 1 year ago
@CUDDLES67 You are the biggest shitstain ever if you believe that. What a fucking loser.
spagandtuna 1 year ago
@spagandtuna OK what is the best war film then?
CUDDLES67 1 year ago
@CUDDLES67 For a Western war movie, try "They Came to Cordura" which Wayne didn't like (and may have tried to supress) because it showed that so-called hero soldiers could have character flaws then Wayne goes and directs the shitty Alamo. For WWII, the Longest Day and 12 O'Clock High kinda hold up.
spagandtuna 1 year ago
I watched this movie on TV the other day but I had to leave about halfway through. I missed the part where the Shermans come busting out of tunnel and play I've Been Working on the Railroad. I won't miss it this time :)
Thanx for the upload!! 5 stars!!

Ya know i used to see this all the time in video stores, and lost my copy reciently. Go around and no ones got a copy! Hmm now to online i go!
damianson 2 years ago 2
yeah, this is one of the major under-rated films of that decade. yet everyone I know who has seen it says it's an all-time fav, and it's very hard to find video copies anywhere
looks like the Hollywood marketing focus groups still can't figure this one out--ripe for a redux release at all the cult theaters.
