@knightofeurasia Talk to any patroller at the area where you're interested in patrolling...they will hook you up with the name and contact info of the person to speak to . Whether you want to be a Pro or a Volunteer, you will have to take and pass an Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course, and also take Ski & Toboggan (S&T) training. There's a website for National Ski Patrol, nsp dot org, where you can get lots more information.
Agreed, Patrolling were the most memorable days of my life. I too have a career in a different industry now, think about the days of patrolling often, and is something I will never forget. If anybody has an opportunity to be part of a Pro Patrol west of the Mississippi, I strongly recommend it, it will be an expierience that will be with you forever.
If you want that job you better go out west, the ski patrollers in the east don't do anything. Litterally all they do is go and sit in their little hut eating granola and bagles and then bitching at ppl who don't put the bar down.
Actually the job doesn't pay that well considering the time and requirements needed. But it is one of the most exciting jobs I've been able to experience.
Acutally patrolling doesnt pay SHIT> But you get to bang all the lifties and tourists that come every weekend. Patrol is god on the hill. Many times ive slept in the patrol shack with some random after the bar. Then use the oxygen in the mornign to help with the HANGOVER. You will never miss work if your to wasted just go slepp in the pato shack. With a sweet bird hopefully.
@CaterpillarKiller Well if your under 35 you can apply for a work permit. Not sure if it is still as fun because I was patrolling in 1995 to year 2000. I have a career now. But im sure patrollers are still killin it and im sure many are still preying on unsuspecting tourists. Patrolling was the best days of my life.
Tuff damn job and not all that good if you want to ski every day. Sure your on your ski's while working but thats not really skiing...Get a night-time job and free ski all day, every day...Thats livin the dream ; )
Most places it is volunteer.
Awesome fun. I have been patrolling for 13 years now. I love it!

It has nothing to do with the pay. I know from being one and an EMT. Your not there for the money.
You're there for the rush. The "anything can happen" feeling. And of course the fact that you can ski for about 200 days out of the year for free!
twisteeR6 3 years ago
Most ski patrollers don't get paid at all...they're volunteers.
Gernald10 3 years ago
Vollies!
In new Zealand they have volunteer ambulance officers and a few professionals
that needs to change as well...

@wrangler34 It pays horribly. Average national pay is somewhere between 10-12 dollars an hour.
