@dennydaydreamer actually not, while that boiling water was already in boiling temperature, it doesn't have any energy supplier to keep it hot, your eyeballs wouldn't freeze right away but as soon as your body can't supply any more energy to keep at normal temperature :D

it does that because the surface area of the water is increased allowing cold air to touch more of the water. and throwing it up in the air makes it very think letting the cold reach it better...

@baguetteman69 -20F is much colder than -18C. Also, it's not a big blob like it is in the freezer, when you throw it there are much smaller particles that can lose their heat much quicker. The ratio of surface area to volume is much bigger in a droplet. I

When you throw a bucket of water you do not get smaller than droplet sizes, you actually do get big blobs. The only way to achieve smaller than droplet sizes would be with a diffuser.

Boiling water would never freeze instantly, no water will. The steam you see is the boiling water quickly cooling down, the water itself is still falling to the ground as a liquid. Go do the same thing over a street or sidewalk, it would get very wet. Now if you threw it off of a 30 story building it may freeze solid by the time it reached the ground.

You are actually very wrong. I'm not sure where you live, but I live in Minnesota and I've done this before. I did this with boiling and non boiling water when it was about -35. The non boiling water froze before I was even able to throw it in the air. The boiling water froze in mid air, and came down in dime sized chunks of ice/snow.
