The M3 held legendary status long before the Supra did, and continues to be an icon long after the Supra was dead and buried. If the Supra was so fantastic why did Toyota not bother continuing with them? When at the track i see more M3’s than almost any other car, why? how many Supras do i see at trackdays? erm none!. The ONLY positive thing i can say about the Supra is that it is easily tunable (as with most other turbo cars)
supra is detuned out of the factory the original concept car had around 500 hp back in the early 90's that is why the engine can run big numbers with stock internals.. i wasn't a fan untill i done some research now i am having a go at a highway beast so dont knock it till you you have done it yourself

@beastson Older cars are generally less advanced and slower. So it's cool when an old car beats a new car. In my country, a clean, stock TT Supra with 140,000kmh goes for $26,000. The M3 engine can't handle power like the Supra, on stock internals. I also like M3s, but they are so common around here and to your average person, it just looks like an ordinary 3 series.
@12389h In your country supras might be harder to come by, that surely explains why they are worth more- supply and demand. The S54 can handle just as much power if not more power than a supra on stock internals. Doesn't sound like you know this but the S54 is a cast iron block with forged internals. With proper tuning I have seen stock S54's put down 600-700whp- do some research if you don't believe me. If the M3 looks like a 3 series then a Supra looks like an SC300.
@beastson The only way a S54 engine can get to 600-700whp, is by use of force induction. There is no way the engine can put down that much power on stock internals, due to the high compression ratio. Pistons and con rods would need to be changed, otherwise your engine won't last very long. Why do you have people swapping 2JZs into E46s, but nobodies putting S54s in Supras? Of course the M3 looks like a 3 series, that's because it is a 3 series. Whereas a Supra is a Supra.
@12389h Yes of course you need forced induction to obtain those power levels on an s54, the same goes for a 2jz lol. High compression can be accounted for with the use of methanol. S54 Rods and Pistons don't break at 600 if tuned properly- do your research brother. People swap 2jz's into many platforms because they are cheap to build and to make powerful- the 2jz had a massive following before the s54 was ever made available to the tuner market. The M3 is a 3 series and the supra is an sc430
@beastson The 2JZGTE comes factory standard with a twin turbo setup. To obtain high power levels all you need to do is a single turbo conversion. It's much more complicated using force induction on an engine which is N/A. BMW uses the 3 series as a platform, Toyota doesn't use the SC430 as a platform for the Supra.

But that's not the the reason why it lost. I doubt that Supra is 750hp. The Supra couldn't possibly lose that, even with the traction issues, it has the power and weight advantage. It may be capable of 750hp, but not on that day. Also the M6 looks hideous compared to the 18 year old Supra.

The aerodynamics of m3 is better, the acceleration is better, top speed is higher, better handling. So how is the supra winning?

@12389h Where are you getting this from? The most expensive Supra you can find is barely more than the cheapest E46 M3. If you're looking at comparable cars, the Supra will be a third of the price or less.
Okay I suppose it may be popular while rare. But to say the Supra is more popular is subjective, you don't really know.

Finding a clean, twin turbo manual Supra is already hard. Soon the E46 M3 will be in the same situation, but considering how many there are that's along time from now. When that happens the Supra will probably be worth 10 times what is now, just like the Toyota 2000GT.

@beastson Older cars are generally less advanced and slower. So it's cool when an old car beats a new car. In my country, a clean, stock TT Supra with 140,000kmh goes for $26,000. The M3 engine can't handle power like the Supra, on stock internals. I also like M3s, but they are so common around here and to your average person, it just looks like an ordinary 3 series.

@12389h In your country supras might be harder to come by, that surely explains why they are worth more- supply and demand. The S54 can handle just as much power if not more power than a supra on stock internals. Doesn't sound like you know this but the S54 is a cast iron block with forged internals. With proper tuning I have seen stock S54's put down 600-700whp- do some research if you don't believe me. If the M3 looks like a 3 series then a Supra looks like an SC300.

@beastson The only way a S54 engine can get to 600-700whp, is by use of force induction. There is no way the engine can put down that much power on stock internals, due to the high compression ratio. Pistons and con rods would need to be changed, otherwise your engine won't last very long. Why do you have people swapping 2JZs into E46s, but nobodies putting S54s in Supras? Of course the M3 looks like a 3 series, that's because it is a 3 series. Whereas a Supra is a Supra.

@12389h Yes of course you need forced induction to obtain those power levels on an s54, the same goes for a 2jz lol. High compression can be accounted for with the use of methanol. S54 Rods and Pistons don't break at 600 if tuned properly- do your research brother. People swap 2jz's into many platforms because they are cheap to build and to make powerful- the 2jz had a massive following before the s54 was ever made available to the tuner market. The M3 is a 3 series and the supra is an sc430

@beastson The 2JZGTE comes factory standard with a twin turbo setup. To obtain high power levels all you need to do is a single turbo conversion. It's much more complicated using force induction on an engine which is N/A. BMW uses the 3 series as a platform, Toyota doesn't use the SC430 as a platform for the Supra.

2. M3s are a dime a dozen, theres one on every corner here, it's nothing special.
3. If you know at the fastest 1/4 mile times, M3s are no where near the top. Most of the fastest 1/4 mile times are set by Supras. For that you need a good engine and good base.

@gollen97 Saw it before. At 0:20 in that video you can see how wet the ground is on the Supras side as opposed to the M6 side. The Supra had about 8 seconds of wheel spin. But that's not the the reason why it lost. I doubt that Supra is 750hp. The Supra couldn't possibly lose that, even with the traction issues, it has the power and weight advantage. It may be capable of 750hp, but not on that day. Also the M6 looks hideous compared to the 18 year old Supra.

I wouldnt say no to one but at the same time i wouldnt go out to buy one either. Ive seen stock looking supras at shows that have like 1000+bhp. you can get to over 450ish with just an exhaust. Raises the boost to over 2bar or around that sort of pressure. Made to tune

@TGTAP The M3's has it's own engines and is not a souped up engine at all like you suggest. Then the drive train and suspension will be replaced. At the bottom the chassis will be reinforced to get a more ridged body. The whole car is different and is not only tuned. Then compared to an supra. with only 200cc more displacement and no turbo it produces 100hp more (45%). The aerodynamics of m3 is better, the acceleration is better, top speed is higher, better handling. So how is the supra winning?
