  • Brava.

  • Brava Jessye!

  • if she had only thought of throwing another B-flat like the one she does at 3:22 the damn guillotine would have cracked...!!

  • When she sings ... nothing else exists ... she absorbed even the air we breathe ... praise the Divine Being, Lord God, for lending us one of (she has to be) the Lord's favorite angel: Jessye Norman. Brava! Stupenda!

  • FABULOUS--I just love this opera, production and most of all Jessye--why has it not been released on DVD? Brava Jessye!

  • This was the great production of John Dexter, in its 1987 revival.

  • Miss Norman is I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E!!!!!! I'm Speechless!

  • Incredible.. but WHY IN ENGLISH!? Cry!

  • Because Poulenc wished to "create" the Dialogues in the language of the country in which it was played in, to be understood first of all. And even Regine Crespin said that she prefered the English version to the French one...So!

I prefer Shirley Verrett's interpretation, by the way.

  • I agree that Norman sounds too heroic, and I also prefer Verrett's softer and more maternal sound. However, I actually understand some of the text here, whereas Verrett turns it all to mush.

  • Is there a DVD of this performance that I can purchase online?

  • This opera and this production are almost more than I can bear. Yet again, brava Jessye!!

  • magnifique bravo jess

  • .....wow
