Because Poulenc wished to "create" the Dialogues in the language of the country in which it was played in, to be understood first of all. And even Regine Crespin said that she prefered the English version to the French one...So!

I prefer Shirley Verrett's interpretation, by the way.

I agree that Norman sounds too heroic, and I also prefer Verrett's softer and more maternal sound. However, I actually understand some of the text here, whereas Verrett turns it all to mush.
