Well actually I heard the same stuff about Soviet helies back in 1980s, while we still were under USSR. Rumor was towelheads were aiming for the rotor's head. I believe Mi-24 may survive this, but I'm not so sure about Mi-8, which initially was a civilian (well, as something Soviet can be civilian) design.

Besides Mi-24 had several upgrades to improve protection (like thermal covers on exhausts you see here) during war in Afghanistan, and that's not without good reason.

2) Yes the Stinger did a lot of damage to Mils, but there were also common cases where the Mi-24 would take a direct hit and survive.

3) The reason an Apache has never been shot down by a Javelin is because, again, that is an anti-tank missile. Assuming you miss-wrote again, an Apache would go down VERY easy by a Stinger, though.

Latest models of hinds have shorter stub wings and fixed lading gear in addition to stuff you see in this vid (multi function displays etc).

Mi-24 series concept (Mi-35 is the export version of Mi-24V) is as a "fliying infantry combat vehicle" , multirole helicopter or assault helicopter not a pure combat helicopter (despite can do it very well). The counter-part to the Apache are the Mi-28 and the Ka-50, Mi24/25/35 have no West equivalent really.

Hind is the NATO codename, not the name of the helicopter, and armaments depends the version, in later versions can carry Shturm, Ataka and even R-73.

It's predecessor, the Mi24 has been involved in a lot of non-Russian conflicts in the hands of other nations. Considering the ammount of nations opperating exported Russian armaments, I'd say the likeyhood of finding out how good they are in combat is actually quite high. Comparing the Hind to the Apache does seem silly though, they're not made for the same job.

When comparing apachi with Mil-apachi is faster and design to shoot and leave, Mil's design to fight that why they're slower but also have lots of armor, its not in the same class. now Kamov vs apachi is closer but still Soviet heli's a more of tank busters and "air artillery". rather then usa helis are convoy and troops support.
