In the movies he was *just* comic relief. That's fine because it was done EXTREMELY well by this actor. As I said, for me, he was the highlight of each film with his portrayal of Jameson.

Commentary aside, I think that this scene was cut because TOO hilarious, and that it totally broke the mood of the movie at the moment. Y'know, New York is in travesty, Peter no longer cares, J.J. has triumphed, and so on. Still, I wish that they'd have kept this in.

But after the non-stop name calling Spider-Man gave Jameson, it eventually grew to a hate of annoyance/countless appearences.

He despises and distrusts Spiderman, because he doesn't think one man should have/is responsible enough, to possess that power.

He's constantly looking for the evil in him, because he knows deep down, that if 'he' had the power, he'd abuse it.

However, in possession of the suit, he realizes his desire to have the power and to know the thrill.

He feels he deserves the power.

@RustyRedReaper It's not really Spiderman he hates, it's the fact that he's a masked hero. He hates masked heroes because he thinks that they're stealing the spotlight from "real" heroes like JJJ's son. Plus his wife was murdered by a masked villain.

Also in the comics he says that he keeps portraying Spiderman as a villain to stop Spiderman from ever actually becoming one. When he tells people that Spiderman is evil Spiderman acts good to prove him wrong. He's helping in his own messed up way.
