GLad to see these still aroiund..and yes, the 4-71 really sucked, thus enter the 8-71 [the 3-speed stick/2 speed fliud coupling didn't turn 0ut so well, so a much more stronger verison of the 4-speed already in use was combined with the Detroiit 8-71.
@scootermann83 This one is a gutted out shell ready for conversion. I do have anothe one that is still a seated bus complete that we are in the process of restoring back to original. Have you had a chance to check out the Yahoo user group Scenicruiser21 It's a good place to meet other scenicruiser owners and see their buses.
Great bus with that good old 4-speed manual transmission. [believe it or not, other buses
by Crown, etc. for schools and such actually had [and I'm talking about only manual xmissionms here]) 10-speeds (Fuller RTX RoadRangers,etc.).PS the original Scenicruisers in 1953-54 had 3-speed main and two speed differential with clutch=-fluid coupling-activatation before retreating to the already and still standard 4 speed, making 6 speeds forwards/2 rev.
@SteveCarras I drove Crown recliners with 12 speed Spicers with 6 speeds reverse! They'll let anyone drive buses these days, because they're all equipped with Allisons. The Hound retrofit on these was the same setup as what MCI used on the MC-5 and -7...they were interchangable, as Hound wanted. The twin 4-71 setup sucked mightily. The MC-6 used a 12V71...they could really eat up a hill!
Cool old bus!

Hope that gets restored some day. There's not many around and it's really an icon.

This is cool. How intact is the interior? Reminds me of the old National Lampoon story on the Battling Buses of WWII.

You see now my wife would never allow me a Scenicruiser in the yard.
