I was surfing at Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz when I heard the news. After finishing our set, and packing up our boards, we noticed dozens of old-style hippie buses caravaning up Highway 1. Strange. Got in the car, flipped the radio, and heard that my friend Jerry had died. So we followed the caravan to golden gate park that afternoon to pay respects. Miss you Jerry. I never knew you either but always felt like I did.
This song brings tears to my eyes, everytime I hear it. Warren's tribute to a man that meant so much to him, yet like so many of us, they never met. Warren embraces Jerry's words, and music like few others can do. Maybe Jackie Greene is the other one. God bless you, Warren. "and to Our grey haired angel as he looks down." If you haven't experienced Red Rocks you won't know, but for those who do.....
I think of youreverytime I walk that entrance into Red Rocks. It is truly 'Jerry's House.'

JBCopland I'll never forget the feeling I got in my car that day, after the nws on the radio. I'm not sure anyone could have ever captured the feeling any better than Warren. This song brings tears to my eyes, every time I hear it. Bless you Jerry, and bless Warren Haynes,
i had no idea that this was written for jerry. It takes on a whole new meaning now. thank you warren and jerry for reminding me that great music never dies, it just transforms!

"We were at Jones Beach when we got the word.."
Was @ the Jones Beach show that night.. Dickey dedicated the show to Jerry.
I remember.. No One to Run With was played late in the night along with Liz Reed... and some of the Black Crowes were there for a South Bound Jam..

I knew this song was for Jerry long before I ever read the liner notes. "But there's a banjo moon in a tye-dyed sky
Hippies dance and babies cry
Church bells ring as a silver-haired angel looks down."
